I followed some yarn down to the manufacturer and found there are several yarns made by the same company and same types of yarn and one can be soil by red heart for example and another skein of it will be sold by a high end brand for sometimes 2-3x the price are the cheaper brand. The only difference is the tag/ paper wrap with name on it. So crazy how some companies do this. But makes so much sense. So people do your research unless you don’t care to break the bank just for a name. Thanks for the video. I’m curious about mosaics and want to make a blanket but haven’t found a tutorial I can follow and like. New subscriber here. Now I can finally make one. ❤
You have done one of the best yarn reviews I have ever seen, honestly you have. I enjoyed not only that you showed what you used each yarn in but then up close of the stitches and then showed what it's like to work with. The Berroco vintage is the second time a RUclipsr has recommend, I am added that to my new buy list for 2024! And I think it would be cool if you did a yearly My favorite yarn for Mosaic, just to see what you liked before and if it still comes out a winner for you.
I'm really so happy to hear that❤️ I think it would be fun to make this a yearly yarn review, and keep it going!
I do too 😊 @@SixelDesign
I REALLY LOVED this video! 🖤Lately, as I get deeper into mosaic crochet and other more complex designs, I want to use the best yarn I can afford so that what I spend hours & hours creating, lasts and also looks good for as long as possible!
I really appreciate all your suggestions, especially your favorite black yarn! Thank you!! 🖤💀🖤
I'm so happy to hear that!! 😁🖤
I’ve never heard of these yarns. I’m also new and broke so I’m usually Michael or Joann for yarns. I love this make one every year sounds good to me.❤
No it's yarn the ones on your left my right is finer. As soon as you showed your book I paused and bought it on Amazon!!!! Can't wait!
Wow, that gradient yarn for the scale pillow is so fluid! When I saw that pillow, I thought you did the gradient yourself. I'm blown away by the skill from the yarn dyer!
You're awesome!!! I love your honest opinions!
Thank you!!🥰
Another great video. Once again - my yarn knowledge has been expanded.
Thank you! I'm happy to share! Just want to elevate some yarn headaches for everyone!
Loved learning about yarns new to me.
Awesome video Alexis! 🤩 You are an official #yarnenabler of mine now and I NEED to get every single one of these yarns! 😄
Thank you!! I feel like you probably have all of these already in your epic yarn stash!😍
I too love Berocco Vintage but use the DK version as I 98% work in DK.
Thank you! I am only beginning in mosaic and started with fingering cotton so that didn’t work. I was looking for a review like this!
I love learning more about different brands thank you!
You're very welcome! I'm happy to share what I've learned!!
Grrrrr 😂😂 I literally just ordered a few skeins of yarn to start my first temperature blanket and I wish I’d seen this video before I purchased. 🤷🏽♀️ ni modo. If it sucks we’ll repurpose. Also, my Furls hook arrived today. It’s gorgeous! I’m also a trad Boye girl though. Really enjoying your channel and ALL your gorgeous work. Thanks!
Awe well I hope the yarn works out anyway! And although the Furls are pretty- I admit I still like my boye!
Totally enjoyed this review thank you.
I love your yarn videos. This one and the last one you did. Great information on the best yarns. Most of them are out of my budget reach though. Would you ever consider doing a video on the lower pirced yarns that are in the big box stores or Amazon? Telling us the best of the bugdet yarns? Thank you. The video you did on your special stitches was very easy to follow and helped with doing those stitches.
I’m seconding this idea of a big box/budget yarn video.
Thank you for this excellent information. Your designs are divine! 💜
Thank you!!
I love you and think we should be best friends 😂 I also have had a hard time finding a true black so thank you!
😁😁
Can I be Mum/Mom to both of you please 😂
Universal Yarn owns Premier Yarns. They have the same corporate headquarters and all. Also they use (like many companies) a mill in Turkey. So many companies have the same or similar lines because of it.
I am new to crochet and have been having an absolute nightmare with some acrylic yarn. I thought it was because I’m new, and to an extent it is because I am still learning so much about hooks, tension etc but to hear you talk in the same way about acrylic is so comforting. I am glued to your video and have just broken off to gush at you 😊. I will be watching all your videos because I just want to learn about music crochet, and how to do it well, so badly. You are really easy to watch and listen to as well. Great job!
I started with acrylic because that's all you can find in most craft stores- and I've always been so disappointed with it! I'm more than happy to suggest better alternatives to acrylic because switching to wool and cotton has been such a game changer!
Perfect Timing! Getting rid of ALL my Acrylic.. Too much pilling.
Great info. Your work is always outstanding!
Thank you!
Great vid, as always! Can’t wait for your vids for this year! So excited! I would have to say, you’re one of my favorite fiber artists! So freakin’ talented!
Happy New Year!💜
Thank you so much!😁
I absolutely LOVE black yarn. I also have 20/20 vision so working with it isn't an issue for me. I will have to find that yarn you love, it looks beautiful.
Agree about the black never being black enough.
So not a fan of splitting yarns tho
Thank you so much for this I have heard of a couple of these yarns but having your professional opinion is priceless! I have your book and have just done some swatches of the different patterns and love all of them even tried a pillow with the snake pattern. Love!
That's awesome❤️ thank you!
Would love this video to be an annual thing. I've think I've seen yarn similar to the Takhi Tandem on Ice Yarns as well. Could be mistaken.
Unfortunately, the ICE yarn Glam Universe is no longer available. Yarnsub has suggested Gazzal Rock 'n' Roll as a replacement. Ordering is in progress.
I was able to buy it from a couple of different sellers on Etsy and Ebay
Thank you so much! Have you got any recommendations for us in the uk? I normally use acrylic, i have used cotton from hobbii and scheepies but they were 4ply. I think worsted is the same as Aran, but that seems quite heavy. I'll do some research
Guess who just bought a sh*t load of mercerized cotton for her next mosaic project 🤦🏼♀️ I’m using your Overlook pattern but wanted to try making a dress with it (groovy huh) which is why I went for the mercerized. Fingers crossed I can make it work well enough 🤞🏼
Lots of luck!! ❤️ Hope it does work well for you! I just wasn't happy with it for the projects I've tried to use it for.
Darn notification didnt let me know you had posted. Im currently working a pattern out of your book❣ im a newbie at mosaic n having troubles but i will prevail!
If you need any help, send me a message either email or IG and I'll help!
@@SixelDesign awe❣ Im doing ok now that i went down a couple hook sizes, 😄. The yarn i got says H but i actually needed an E hook. I know, tiny but i'll just add more rows to get to the size i need. The yarn color was really hard to find so i settle for what i could get. Its a pillow for my daughter's beau from the UK who's coming in a couple months to visit.
@@SixelDesign , but thankyou ever so much❣❣❣❣
@gaylescovel7308 ooooh good luck with it!❤️
@@SixelDesign, Dearest Sixel, i now know why you dont like acrylic! But att it was the only colors i could find to suit her and i had not watched this before i got the yarn. Nor had i read the book. Shame on me big time! Ofcourse i jumped straight to the hardest pattern, the Victorian Pillow. But you will be happy to know i did make it work, took me two months n frogging alot n " t i g h t e s t " tension i could muster. NEVER AGAIN will i ever use acrylic for mosiac crochet. With that said it still turned out n am pleased. Absolutely love your book too! If i werent so put off with etsy i would so be shopping ur site. The two/three times i have used it i got so much spam n 'scams' it was unreal. Thier site has sold my info n i got scammers saying they were fedex yaddayadda n such from all over n i know from india on one. So i dont shop there anymore.
"I can't deal with acrylic" SAME. You've got my sub.
I am the same but still use it when making things to donate for preemies at the NIC Units.some hospital will only use items made with acrylic yarn.
@@shelleysmith4017 That makes complete sense not just from an allergy standpoint but acrylics require no special care. I'm more a cotton person, it's what I learned on and while I've strayed into other fibers over the years I always seem to come back to it. I recently have fallen in love with merino wool, so nice to work with.
I love cotton, it is my preferred yarn, although bamboo is good too. Merino wool and cashmere are glorious to work with, but I am allergic so have to wear gloves to do it lol. But cotton is my preference, it is great for all year round.
@@GlasUndMetall
@@shelleysmith4017 I used A bamboo yarn for a large rectangular shawl I made, I want to say it was LB TruBoo? It was a bit splitty to work with but not really that bad, I've heard some people take issue with that, but it is absolutely my favorite go-to shawl. The drape is incredible and it's really holding up so well. I feel like I don't get the same drape qualities from acrylic but that could absolutely be user error on my part, I feel like I understand natural fibers better? I can translate them better into what I want. I agree that cotton, and bamboo as well, are great anytime of the year.
@@GlasUndMetall there are some brands that I find can be splitty. I only get grumpy with it if I am making something for someone and did not leave myself enough time to leisurely create it (usually baby blankets lol) and need to speed crochet…going fast ends up splitting it once in awhile. For bamboo I know that splits a little easier, I use a rounded hook rather than my preferred pointy hook.
I will have a look for that brand of bamboo yarn. I live in Scotland but go home to the US once or twice a year…I try to stick up on American yarn simply because it is so much cheaper. But over here, I tend to use Viking, Infinity, and YarnArt most often. Of the three, YarnArt is the most splitty. Hubby travels a lot for work and I get to go with him. I try yarn from the various countries and so far my favourite bamboo yarn came from Japan. I can’t read the name as it is in Japanese lol but it was so plump, soft, and such a joy to work with. The drape was fantastic and I made a shawl and lap blanket (I am in a wheelchair so get chilly even in the summer) with it, the sheen was amazing too. I find that a cotton bamboo mix though works up really well. Oh yes the drape cannot be beat with bamboo and cotton.
Your shawl sounds wonderful and you know the yarn is worth it when the end result keeps you coming back to it time and again.
So what yarn in this list would you consider as replacing Cascade Nifty Cotton? Or is that still one of your favorites as well? Thank you for your through videos on why you like the yarns you do and why!
The Universal Cotton Supreme is what I use now. Cascade Nifty Cotton my be better at this point, but I haven't used it in a while since they had some quality issues.
@@SixelDesign Thank you so much for you reply! Now I know what to get instead.
Premier and Universal seem to the the same company. They both have same address in their contact us section of their websites.
If you said and I missed it, where do you order your yarn from? WEBS? somewhere else? Thank you for this info!❤
Mostly from Wool & Co.
Great video ! My question is What weight yarn do you use for your projects? I'm finding that worsted weight makes my projects to heavy and thick , is that just the nature of the beast . I haven't tried DK yet ?
I use worsted for everything, but dk works well too.
@@SixelDesign thank you !
WAY COOL ;0
Thanks!
Ok so I’m a little in the fence should I pick your “ everyday yarn” or the blanket yarn ? I want to make a little of everything with this amazing pattern I just purchased from your Etsy??? I need help
Me: I wonder which yarn she uses?
RUclips: suggets this video 🤣
There you go! 😆 I use a ton of different yarn though, these just happen to be my top favorites of the moment!
🥳🎉
I want to start some projects and you had stated you love berroco vintage black. Is that the berroco vintage baby which has a black or regular berroco vintage because they have one called cast iron not out and out black. Is the cast iron one the yarn you are referring to? I want a good black and I totally trust your eye and judgment. Thank you so much in advance.
It's regular Berroco Vintage, and yes, Cast Iron 🖤
@SixelDesign you are the best thank you!!!
What do you use to fill your pillows?
@@user-de9os2xw1o I use cheap bed pillows. It's less expensive than buying fiberfill
The Borocco vintage yarn - should I purchase the Worsted or DK version. I’m interested is make the patterns in the book for pillows and blankets.
Anyone that is willing to help I would greatly appreciate your time ❤
I use worsted for just about every project, including everything in the book.
