Ryan!!!! Thank you so much for this episode! Please have more of this. We don't have enough people teaching us about a broader perspective, teaching us how to question and encouraging us to seek the truth.
When I was growing up in the ‘60s, the conversations that Ryan and Mr. Greene have today were commonplace. Now, disappointingly, they seem like outliers. Training the mind to THINK, not talk, has given way to cognitive dissonance and, let’s be honest, willful ignorance. When these two talk, I feel as if I’m on that famous “porch”, 2,000 years ago, soaking up the knowledge of that day’s intellects. It is so much more refreshing than hearing our so-called leaders lie to their constituents about a medical issue they have no training to discuss.
Its a cycle of history. Times get tough, makes people creative and wise. Good times make people soft and ungrateful so therefore ignorant and arrogant, which is willfull ignorance. The cycle repeats, so dont be a part of it.

I love how he incorporates history into his work. Perspective is so needed. True, no one thinks in metaphors any more. Right. My granddaughter thinks the pandemic was the most horrible thing. I try to tell her it's nothing like the real ones that happened in the past like the plague or Spanish flu. My father was in the Army during WWII. It's my understanding that the stoics believe our essential nature is irrational one, and I'm surprised Ryan didn't challenge him on that idea If in fact his friend is a Stoic. Perhaps it's just a minor point, but I think what we believe foundationally about whether or not we are at our nature irrational or rational is important. And I'm not sure it's an either or proposition.

Speaking of cognitive dissonance, you mentioned the differing sides of the political spectrum, how does one determine that it is not they themselves suffering from cognitive dissonance. People are all so sure of themselves, and so sure that it is the other people who aren't seeing correctly.
He was not speaking about him per se, but about the natural human tendency to want a messaged that is packaged in a way that makes the most impact. Telling struggling people that the country is fine and great doesn't really wash.
The funniest part of this video is that they start by talking about how when you are “in a cult” you lack insight that you are in a cult, then they spend a good chunk of time discussing things from a very US centric perspective lol
28:00 I was also noticing the tone of Greene's voice. If you listen to his cadence, you can tell, its just like Bill Gates, its this very "I'm so much more logical than most of the world, here let me impart my infinite wisdom upon you plebs; I will say I know about science and being objective yet I am spouting completely nonobjective thoughts as truth."

This interview definitely took some points away from how I THOUGHT Greene saw things. He’s just a Californian rich liberal that writes some amazing books.

It’s interesting watching all of their talks ..it’s like listening in on elites being arrogant ..thank God I’m not struggling due to COVID but lots are; it’s possible for everyone to get through this but the reality is a lot of people don’t have the mindset or the strength especially after losing work or building up rent/mortgage/cc bills; they act like there is no consequence for living in fear and it’s easy to say if you have money/a mindset that can help you through this (it’s like liberals are obsessed with the haves and the have nots, yet there own thinking/beliefs/lockdowns are widening the gap that they claim to care so much about)
