Root canal

  • #shorts Why do I need a root canal?
An animated video of why a tooth may need a root canal and what the root canal procedure entails. A cavity can reach the nerve chamber of a tooth. Once it is inside the nerve space the bacteria from the cavity will kill the nerve inside of the tooth, it can then spread to the jawbone and cause an abscess. To treat this situation, your dentist or endodontist will perform a root canal on the tooth. They will drill into the nerve space of the tooth and remove all of the dead nerve tissue with endodontic files. Once the tooth is thoroughly clean inside, the root canal space will be filled with a material called gutta percha. Afterwards, your dentist will cover the tooth with a dental crown to protect it.
If you'd like to learn more about root canals, I highly recommend the book "Pathways of the Pulp". amzn.to/3Zgc2XL

To anyone scared. The numbing needles are the worst part. If you want to simulate that pain, give your self a quick pinch for not even a second.
The only time it hurts is if the needle RARELY punctures your nerve. I’ve only had this happen once out of 11 teeth and the pain only lasts for about 5 seconds instead of 1. You’ll be fine so go fix your teeth before you regret it.
The dentist gets paid and trained extensively to do these procedures so don’t give a thought about that

the 1st one went smoothly (mostly just in injection at the beginning).
The 2nd root canal was like a glimpse of hell on earth. It touched the nerve more than 3 times (i lost count) and everytime the dentist touches me, i was holding my breath. I tried getting my mind off of the pain by thinking of prime numbers and I could never get past 7 or 11 each time.

During the initial treatment they thought I had 3 roots in each molar. A couple of weeks had to pass for them to have a slot to finish up the work at my regular dentist (or better said one of his colleagues specialised in root canals) they found out I had 4.
Didn't have any problems with it, other than it being a little sensitive in near the end.

To make matters worse I also had puss forming behind the roots which caused a lot of pain, I would feel it at random times and my parents had given me pain meds as a temporary solution. Eventually they decided to go to a dentist so he could take out the infection. I didn't like it and it was pretty painful but I had to endure it because I knew it was for my own good. i've had multiple treatments like this so far, and it's such a great feeling to finally get some ultracaine injected before the operation after having excruciating PULSING bursts of pain for multiple days or weeks.
Once my pain was so extremely horrible while in antibiotics treatment, there was nothing I could do except knocking myself out to complete unconsciousness for the whole day.

I recently had a tooth canal procedure done. It took 2 procedures to do the job. The molar had a crack in it and it already had a crown on it. He drilled a hole through the crown to get at the nerves. In total it cost over $1,800. The pain before the procedures was unbearable. The pain during the procedures was not bad at all, just uncomfortable. The endodontist filled the hole permanently so that saved me a trip to my dentist to do that. He wasn't too committal on the long-term outlook, but it's worth the gamble to me not to have the tooth extracted.

I had even a worse case ! This spoiled nerve things, get out of tooth and infected my gums, it was surgically opened to suck it out. I had stitches after this to close bitten meat that was everything what remembered from my gums there. Horrible case, many months and money go away.

Just came back from getting my first root canal & seeing the comments of people whose dentists were careless about the pain is so scary. I didn't feel anything. The dentist injected the anaesthesia (didn't hurt at all even though I'm usually very scared of needles) & gave me almost 20 mins for it to kick in & started only when be was sure that I couldn't feel anything on that side.

I really do MY best to get people numb! Some doctors are just impatient or have poor technique, etc. We all get that one patient that really is a challenge, though, for a variety of reasons. People need to review their local anesthesia book from dental school though😑 Always have plan B, C, D, E… to get someone numb.

Tooth broke in half one night. Stopped going to that dentist office because he was too busy playing in a golf tournament. Few years later with essentially a razor blade in my mouth, another dentist broke the tooth and extracted the rest.
