I’ve actually never enjoyed this. Only because it puts us in a category of Black books but yte people are just in the books department. When I imagine myself being published, I don’t want people going “oh that’s a Black book and not for me” if they’re a non Black reader because I love encouraging diverse readers. At the same time because of disparity in publishing and ongoing history, I think we should be highlighted but I feel like that’s what displays are for that are pushed near the front of the store. It’s just hard because when I was growing up that section was urban lit and shoved to the back of the bookstores and I’m like first off, if I didn’t even know where it was for the longest, these other people aren’t, but the lack of variety and idea they tried to create about what Black literature is was making audience potential even smaller and perpetuating stereotypes I feel. I care less now that I’m older and see the value in urban lit. Like it doesn’t just have to be southern racism to show our ugly parts of life(that come from systemic racism) and the beautiful parts. But I know how the optics are for others and that so many us write a range of books that it just seems unfair. But this could be my local issue too being a southerner. I hope arrangement is better in other places while we work to get stores doing better here. I bet that is cool for a kid to not have to play treasure hunt to see themselves on a book like I did. I get excited everytime I see their cute little picture books with Black faces 😊it’s why I’m hoping I can help fight book bans because I want that for them forever!❤

Alex, Target will price match Amazon and Walmart. Target will even match their own online prices if they are cheaper online than in store. The only thing I don’t like about Target books is that the stickers are not that easy to remove.

I always price match on books and my kids clothes/toys on the target app. I scan everything before I check out lol I also price match books from Amazon if the books on the target app goes back up in price.
My Target wins over my Walmart. Target has way more books a pretty huge section and they have a black authors section (it is small but it is a start) Walmart only has one section two aisles of all the books and no specific areas for authors of color or any diversity is all mixed together so sometimes I can't find what I want. I'm white but I love finding diverse authors. I also am LGBTQ so I'm hoping they both make a section for authors next month for Pride. ❤ love your channel!

Sadly, my local Walmarts book section is almost non existent. They are so small with literally no variety. Targets book selection here are infinitely better.
I don't buy books at target anymore. The worker whom was doing the book section told me the price on the shelf includes the 20%. Here all this time I thought it was 20% that price but that's not what he told me.

Targets urban section is always hidden in the back somewhere. Thats what I don't like about the Targets in my area. They have great children's books but just not front and center.

Yes I noticed the same about Walmart Books. Although I did hear that if you order online with Walmart I heard the quality of the books delivered may not be good. Not sure if that is true so I would check the reviews on that. 🤗. That’s why I just go to Walmart and get the books I want. Plus you can check the Walmarts on line to see if that store has that book in stock. 😁
I don't have Target where I live at but Walmart do have some good book selections. Plus I'm always ordering off Amazon

The Walmart by my house sucks but if I go into the city it’s soooo much better than the targets by me too. But Barnes still wins since there’s so many options especially diverse reads..🫶🏻

That Target may not have a ton of variety given the 'demand' of people buying books (merchandise) .Ergh, nothing is better than Barnes and Nobles. Blasphemous I say blasphemous. Wait, Thriftbooks is better...Books please is better. Waterstones is....okay. okay. maybe a few places are better than Barnes and Noble. Walmart is a giant mega corporation so of course they have everything. Walmart gets a cut of the book;'s profit while Amazon (hopefully) has changed the way they pay author's for the sale of their books on the site.
