    I've been practicing shooting in stride for the last six months and it is now starting to show up in my game. Recently I brought the puck down the wing and fired 5-hole in stride. The goalie didn't even react until after the puck was through his legs: the combination of hiding the shot and the added pace of the thrust makes it really hard on the tender. Thanks Darryl.

    Thanks for your question: Here's a couple tips:
    1. Make sure you draw the puck back in your stance prior to shooting - if the puck is out in front of the skates this can cause a fluttering puck
    2. Make sure your stick blade is cupping the puck - an open stick face prior to shot release can cause fluttering
    3. Make sure you have downward pressure - pulling up or off the shot can cause fluttering.
    4. Most common problem is shooting off the toe without a toe curve.
    Good luck

    powerful, id recommend to buy cheap sticks with both flexes. If don't have that much money, take the 77 and cut it down (the shorter the stick the harder it gets). I by myself have sticks with 82 and 90 and i choose which one to play with on how i feel.
    2.
    You have to activate your wrist muscles (theyre in the forearm), which means you need a certain amount of tension, otherwise vibrations and other things twist your wrist slightly, which can also cause pain. BUT don't push to hard,

    The key to maintaining velocity in the short release is in converting weight transfer to on-stick pressure. Once the player understands weight transfer, the next step is converting that transfer to on-stick pressure - stick bend is what holds the velocity. If your players aren't breaking sticks in the shaft or "flexing them out", they aren't converting weight transfer into stick bend, thus losing in their velocity.

    So, I watched this video before morning practice. After practice, we have an extra hour of time to work on individual skills. I have been trying your "shooting in-stride technology" I really do notice the force I can get into my stick with the momentum I have staking. My shot is now harder and crisper doing this. I also enjoy working on the "two touch technique." It's very important, as a defense men, to get the puck back down or to get a shot on net for an opportunity or possibly a goal. Thanks

    Is there an oprimal stick height to enhance the in balance shooting style?

  • @coachsuds
    @coachsuds 15 лет назад

    Darryl I like the inserted video and instructional points placed over the demo footage of Ellis.Creating -and adding to - forward momentum is vital. How are you teaching weight transfer...I was also thinking about quick short releases. Do they take away from the potential velocity that can be developed from more complete releases? Lastly, when would you instruct a player to remain in his/her backhand rather than two touch?
    Keep the great video's coming.

    Thank you very much. This helps me a lot to correct my wristshot skill.
    I have two questions,
    1. I know maybe my wrist is not strong enough, so, is it better to use a 75 flex or a 85 flex shaft in order to perform a good wrist and snap shot?
    2. I use left handed blade/stick. When practicing wrist and snap shots, my higher hand wrist(RIGHT hand wrist) hurts. Is it because I twist my wrist too much? Or, I twist my right hand wrist in a wrong way?
    What is the proper twisting action?

    Im not an expert, but the pain in your upper hand might be because of wrist strength. You mentioned earlier that your wrist strength isnt that great anyways, so one way you could improve this off the ice is to tie a weight to a broken shaft or just any wood lying around approx the same width as a hockey stick, and then grab it with both hands. Then roll the string up and down, raising and lowering the weight all the way. Its a pretty good wrist workout.

    strong. I recommend buying a cheap 77 and 85 stick to try out whats best for you. When you dont have that money take a 77 stick and cut it down (it gets harder the shorter it gets).
    2. Its all about wrist tension. When you dont activate your muscles in the forearm (wrist) all vibrations including when you receive a pass twist your wrist lightly which causes pain. BUT dont push it too hard, youll notice your forearms are getting tired quickly.
    To improve that do the quick-hands drill. Take a

    I would instruct a player to choose to stay on their backhand under the following conditions.
    1. Their angle to the net is inside the dots, making the angle of the shot intelligent.
    2. They are catching the puck with immediate inside defensive pressure.
    3. When they are inside 10 feet to the net, the backhand must be a legitimate option.

    It depends on your weight and height. If you can't flex the stick complete I would suggest a stick with a lower flex value.

    What is your opinion on different stick curves? I know that every player has a preference, and certain curves are better for different things. Do you reccomend a certain curve to players? What about stick flex rating? Also, is there a type of stick that you have found that gives best results for a hard shot?

  • @indierektmusick
    @indierektmusick 11 лет назад

    hey =)
    It depends on you, how tall and heavy you are and how much power your upper body muscles is able to provide. Sure, a pro level player can shoot harder with a harder stick, but only if he is able to flex the stick properly. (chara has a 160 flex stick)
    The softer the stick is, the quicker you are able to load the stick for a shot, so even pro players take a softer stick.
    By the way, hard sticks transfer more vibrations. Maybe that causes your pain.
    You said that your wrist arent that

      1. Try to start with your weight on the leg closest to the passer.
      2. Let the puck hit your stick in line with the leg closest to the passer.
      3. As the puck reaches your stick, transfer your weight to the far leg (should naturally move your stick to receive softly) and allow the weight of the puck to 'push' your stick to your preferred shooting position.
      4. You should now be in a balanced posture with the puck in optimal shooting position. Just take one more step (transfer weight again) and release the shot as normal.
      I agree with 'indierektmusick' about the plastic/toilet pater roll on your lower hand. Practice like that to get a good feel for the proper catch technique. It may screw up your actual shot but don't worry about that, take it a step at a time.
      I'd also recommend practicing catching/shooting with your head up the whole time. Glance at pass, quickly calculate trajectory, raise head just enough so you can still track it in peripheral vision but can still see the net/defenders in front of you.
