  • Alice Walker is a celebrated writer, poet, and activist and has written seven novels, four collections of short stories, four children’s books, and volumes of essays and poetry. Her work has been translated into more than two dozen languages, and her books have sold more than fifteen million copies. 
    Walker made history as the first African American woman to win the Pulitzer Prize for Literature and the National Book Award in 1983 for her renowned novel, The Color Purple, which was later adapted into a film and musical.
    Walker explores the themes of gender and racial inequality through the civil rights movement, spirituality, and familial archetypes. She emphasizes the humanity in her characters by writing in dialects, using letters for narration, and implementing oral storytelling traditions.

    This is such a wonderful conversation, thank you! Of all of Ms. Walker's works of fiction (and I've read them all), The Temple of My Familiar is my all time favorite. Such a huge, expansive, and inclusive saga. Alice Walker, you have saved my sanity in so many ways for decades. You are a treasure for which I am eternally grateful! 💚💜

    This was an absolutely wonderful interview I felt like I was spending time my grandmother when she was cooking,and I was in the kitchen, pretending to help her, just because I wanted to hear her stories

    Here is what I don't understand- the color purple which is her work and they have made several addaptaions but they don't even mention her? I don't understand that? I also want to know if maybe we can get an Animation of THE TEMPLE OF MY FAMILIAR? I think that is the only way it can work on screen
