Alice, your life & work have educated me about the oppression of all women, but particularly black women (and I am white) and I can't say how much it has freed me to be myself, to listen to my dreams and take them seriously, and to be grateful for any suffering that Life brings to me. Your courage makes me feel brave. Your patience and love are received. Love love love to you. You are my absolute favorite writer.
Her voice is just so Beautiful.
She said
" There is nothing more wonderful than setting other people free "
Robbie burns said the same thing, how exquisite the bliss, some where in one of his poems
The difference between the interviewer and Alice Walker is that she has cultivate Compassion, humility and serving others selflessly. She steps out of her comfort zone. She loves her NEIGHBOURS (people outside the family).
Only the PURE in heart can be liberated ( ends the shackle of repeated birth and death- Samsara).
Unconditional love, humility compassion, selflessness are the foundation of Peace and unity. 🙏🙏🙏♥️♥️♥️
What a Blessing she is...♥️😎🙏
When we were kids, we drove through Eatonton GA on our way to visit relatives. "Story" is such an essential part of healing. When I saw "The Color Purple" I left the theater saying to myself, "I've just seen a movie about my life."
SO MUCH BEAUTY in one sweet soul. Just the Medicine i needed. 🌻💗💗💗🌻
Alice Walker, just gives me the chills and love.
Of all of the books that I absolutely love by Alice Walker, "The Temple of My Familiar" is my all time favorite. I'm loving the backstory. And, I love her. She has been a big part of keeping me sane in an insane world for decades.
It’s my favorite too…
she well said
" Love is the foundation for change and transformation"
excellent
🙏♥️ One Earth
🙏♥️ ONE Supreme creator
🙏♥️ ONE Human race
🙏♥️ ONE Unconditional Love
🙏♥️ ONE Universal Brotherhood
🙏🙏🙏♥️♥️♥️
Glad to hear a contemporary writer mention the Gnostic Gospels. Walker and the interviewer seem to be on different planets. Thanks!
It's really hard to watch because of this. I'm trying, though 🤘
I knew she would be feirce she delivered like I thought she would love her
"Why bother to suffer if you're not going to have a good time at some point?" Around 10:35
"Why bother to suffer IF you're not going to have a good time at some point?" 10:47 ;)
@@demiloca Thanks for the correction ☺️
She’s such an inspirational person
Hate and bigotry can inspire some people. Ms. Walker wears her masque well but for those of us who listen to her words and understand her message, we can see the ugliness of her soul.
I love her... I wish I could speak in her manner ... she thinks before she speaks not emotional soothing...
Alice you are one my favorites heroes
PTE leave us with lessons-- "ingredients for creativity," Ms. Walker says. I so admire her as an essayist.
Wonderful conversation, thank you so much
love her! a phenomenal woman indeed!
"Love" Alice Walker was referring to is Unconditional Love (without self-centered, selfish motive to fulfil one's selfless EGO!) 🙏♥️
A living legend and Village treasure!
Love her voice
Phenomenal interview!
"You teach people to hate you teach themselves to wound themselves."
The Nature Law of Action and reaction (consequences) . We all plant the seeds and reaps the result in the future.
Kindness and compassion will be rewarded to the performer in the future.
Hatred and violence towards others will be returned to the doer eventually. This is God's law, abide His law or suffer from the reaction.
God only make ONE human race; You and I. We are all children of God as in the Vedic literatures, bible and other scriptures and sastras 🙏🙏🙏♥️♥️♥️
The Temple Of My Familiar! Legendary 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼

Time stamp to when Alice Walker actually starts talking cuz this man was RAMBLING!
I LOVE HER!!!!!
she is simply "LOve"
God bless you all !
Wow!
You should be able to criticize a government without being said to hate the people.
Cool!
I NEED TO MEET YOU!!!!! Inspirational
Mam you have a beautiful soul.
Gosh, he talks down to her
Dean Nelson sucks
This is why you need to have interviewers with cultural relevance! Was there no Black staff who could hold this interview
He does no such thing, he may not be a great interviewer but he is not talking down to her. Alice Walker would not have tolerated it, so don't be foolish.
♥️ ♥️ ♥️
Hopefully, there are english subtitles !
55:15 “the police are people too.”
If only they listened to you Alice.... Were starting to see others as monsters and not fellow humans.
Goddess-Saint.
47:50 I really don’t understand this. I’m from West Tennessee and in high school we read “Ordinary Use” in English and we watched The Color Purple pretty regularly, as part of Black History Month, African-American Studies and it was used as one of those movies certain teachers keep for a rainy day.
This was the mid 2000s. In Tennessee. Not Memphis Or Nashville either. Hard to believe they are still trying to ban her. I’m not saying it isn’t happening.
Have you read By the Light of My Father's Smile? It's my favorite!
s c No, but i want to get to it. I liked her interview on Charlie Rose promoting it. Sounded interesting.
@@calebcostigan2561 When I read it, yrs ago, I was blown away. I couldn't put it down. The story resonated with me in different ways,& opened me up. It's a deep story,& will stay with you. I'd find myself into the thinking about the book at work. Lol
s c I really want to give it to try. Thank you!
I wish he had cited the academic that said” one of the main themes of your writing is the black woman as creator and how her attempts to be whole relates to the health of her community “ @ 1:22:31
👍
"Suicide" cannot kill the soul only kill the material body. Suicide is against God's law as each of us is given a certain duration of years and days to live. Suicide is same as muder and euthanasia; the journey of the soul after suicide are not pleasant.
The unique individual soul may have to wandering in the dark region before having a new body in the womb of a female. 🙏🙏🙏
Human life means taking greater responsibility than other species. To question and overcome the difficulties we EACH face ; only by overcoming our problems than we can move higher spiritually and help others. 🙏🙏🙏
White, Black, Brown, Yellow or Mixed are just the outer clothes of the physical bodies.
The individual unique atomic SOUL is not white, black, brown, yellow, male, female, PM, King, Queen. The mortal body is material and is subjected to Samsara of birth, disease, old age and death.
The soul is spiritual and immortal NEVER borns NEVER dies.
🙏♥️ When the soul leaves the physical body ( human, cat, dog, cow) we called death.
Soul is the symptom of life. Embryo ( of human, cat, dog, cow... ) grows from moment to moment due to the present of SOUL.
Each unique individual soul enters into the womb of a female through the semen of male - we called birth.
Still-born - when the soul has to leave the womb by the intervention of Supreme creator because the environment is not suitable for the soul; the embryo stops growing.
🙏♥️ May we all pray that all the departed souls continue their spiritual journey in their new bodies.
🙏♥️ Love one another unconditionally. Love your neighbours ( all people outside your family)
Strange; - this is what I SEARCHED FOR; - HOW DOES HUMAN SUFFERING LOOK FROM THE PURPLE CUSION I WONDER?
34:48
58'19" "I love David Icke. Take it or leave it." I'll leave it Ms. Walker. Shame on you.
" Suffering" for the learned and wise means they don't ask "God, why ME?" Because this is a selfish way of thinking ( you rather others suffer but NOT you).
Leo Tolstoy ( 1828-1910) another great writer suffered too. ( Check - Leo Tolstoy Audio Books). Two Old Men, Slavery of our times, Three Questions.....🙏♥️
Eeerrr. "Even a white privileged males like me". Yucky
William H he’s acknowledging it 🤷🏻♀️
Why did she treat her own daughter so badly?
The color purple struck millions of black families like cancer. Colored black women purple like the flesh on black men backs under the whip.
Did the film do it or the book is the question... was the question till this interview. She / the book did it.
Terrible interviewer.
only 3 mins in and already disgusted with her condescending tone and his obedient simpering, eeeeeek!! this will be hard to watch and listen to, if the tone does not change to a conversation between two individuals instead of a lesson in victimhood rooted in the color of her skin sprinkled with guilt of his ancestors...but hey, maybe thats the be all and reason of this 'interVIEW' i might be wasting my time here...all i am interested in is a nuanced dialogue not in a match of 'the olympics of oppression' !!
Every one has purpose.. seek yours.
deep....thanks
