Madonna never fails to inspire! I mean her songs are always so uplifting and about putting your troubles all behind, being yourself and celebrate life. And then the balloons that say...Dreams come true! And yes, everyone who hates Madonna is jealous because they can't be her! Love her till death do us part!

So glad you are doing the tour rather than bits and pieces. The shout out to Grandma was to her real Grandma as it was in her hometown. She plays guitar, tambourine, drums (started as a drummer in a band which is why she has great rhythm), and a bit of keyboard (played keyboard on Love Song track from Like a Prayer album). She also fronted punk bands in pubs and clubs late 70s, early 80s, so that's why she seems like a seasoned pro. Every song on this tour was a hit single except Over and Over which was an album track! Unfortunately Angel, Borderline, and Burning Up were not included on the video release.

Omg. You’re doing entire tours! Love it. I am so here for this ride!! The evolution of Madonna!! Enjoy!! ♥️
I was right in front of the stage for this show…. It was amazing!!
*once you get to her Blonde Ambition tour, the production gets much, much bigger.
Also… you’re correct. Backup dancers have trouble keeping up with her. 😉

Madonna's opening act for this tour was a little unknown band at the time called THE BEASTIE BOYS. Madonna played the drums in a band called The Breakfast Club before she became famous!

So great that you reacted to this tour, I too, get emotional when she say’s she might start crying as I know everything she went through, to get to this point. A couple of fun facts: as you know, this was her home show in Detroit and her family was in attendance and during the material Girl song, it’s her actual father that comes out and drags her off stage. Also, almost every review of this tour, they highly criticized her “thin” voice and called her chubby, it was so vile how they treated her even back then. I always thought she had a beautiful body then and subsequently after this tour, you’ll see her start a rigorous fitness routine, that would sculpt her body to that of an athlete, as she never wanted them to call her chubby again. This was also the only tour where she would perform with male backup singers.

She started out as a drummer and guitarist in the punk scene in NYC. When she became a “Pop Star” she focused on songwriting and vocals. She relearned the guitar in 2000 after her then husband, Guy Ritchie, gifted her a guitar 🎸 for their anniversary. She is credited for playing the cowbell on her first album! 😂

Literally “The Virgin Tour “ it started out in smaller venues but quickly progressed to large scale because of demand. Notice the “wannabes” in her style of jewelry and hair. She just had that star quality that makes you want more. Amazing style, and always giving her dancers the spotlight but she’s still the hardest working member of her troupe.

For this being her first official tour, it was pretty amazing. If you’re going to react to her tours, I would also recommend reacting to some of her interviews. She’s always so thoughtful and insightful in them. From this era though, I would recommend the one with her in a panel with Hall and Oats and James Brown talking about how music videos and “performing on camera” changed the music scene. They tried to come at her and she more than held her own.

Madonna has this way of beautifully referencing origins or other significances throughout her long history, whether a resurfaced lyric of the past for a new song, but introduced differently, to a subtle or an obvious dance move, or the look of a stage costume, set design. She pays homage...to herself and why shouldn't she. She's either done it first, or has done it better.

Great you’re covering her very first concert tour. A Madonna journey wouldn’t be quite complete without including this. This was a tour de force of nearly an hour of continuous performance of hit-after-hit from her first 2 albums and movie soundtracks. I likened it to the “Big Bang” that the pop music world really got to experience the power and depth of her live stage music and artistry. This was before her appearance on the Live Aid benefit concert but after her iconic first live performance of Like A Virgin to open the inaugural MTV VMAs show on September 14, 1984. This tour is the apex of her Material Girl/Like A Virgin era (1983-1985). She would re-invent her image by the time of her 3rd album True Blue (1986) and 2nd tour, Who’s That Girl (1987). A few more history about this tour: 1) this was the Detroit leg of the tour that was recorded and released on VHS, Betamax and LaserDisc. Although she was born in Bay City, MI she grew up in the Detroit suburbs of Pontiac and Rochester Hills (where she went to high school, was a straight A student and center member of the school cheerleading team). 2) her father, siblings, cousins and maternal grandma were in the audience. 3) the portable ‘boom box’ prop shown in the Everybody number harkens to her pre-fame early years in NYC where she kept one in her apt room, she would also bring it up in the apt building rooftop or down in the open lot to play her favorite music on the radio or cassette tape to practice her dance moves, befriending the young boys in her building and ‘hood who enjoyed dancing with her (she revealed that she befriended them for ‘protection’ after her apt/room was broken in a few times). There’s photos of her online posing with her boombox with her young friends. Luv following your reactions…it’s nostalgic and evokes wonderful memories of that era.

Her energy really is amazing and she doesnt slow down. I also get exhausted just watching her 1993 Girlie Show tour, her energy is off the chain and she doesn't just do it once, she does this every night for 6-9 months and travel to another city/ country during the day.
Singing and dancing at the same time is particularly hard and she does it so well.

Just a fun fact for me … I was a professional backup dancer and I was on tour with a singer and we did a show in my home town at the very Concert arena where I spent many nights watching concerts as a teenage with a dream of being on stage… the night I performed In Front of my family and peers from high school at this show the singer announced me being from that city… And I said “ THERES NO PLACE LIKE HOME” just like Madonna did on the mic…

Madonna's early advocacy for the Beastie Boys as her opening act, despite initial resistance from fans and her record company, speaks volumes about her vision and willingness to support emerging talent. This decision showcased her ability to recognize potential and her commitment to breaking boundaries in the music industry.
My personal connection to Madonna, from the age of 11 as a gay boy and throughout my life, highlights the profound impact she has had on me. If not for her I be dead now. She was not just an entertainer but a symbol of empowerment and inspiration. Her influence provided you with a sense of identity and purpose, ultimately giving you the strength to navigate life's challenges.
Madonna's ability to touch lives and inspire others is a testament to her status as a cultural icon and a symbol of resilience. She is A Goddess and my north star.

We've been waiting since 1985 for the full length Virgin Tour to be officially released lol There has never been a real start to finish video. They chose to do a Highlights video as (rumour has it) Madonna wasn't happy with Angel, Borderline and Burning Up as they were part of the show, filmed and edited, but never released anywhere. There were also video screen photo montages between the sections of the show where she changed clothes, these were left off the video too. Maybe they'll do a giant Virgin Tour 40th anniversary release in 2025... EDIT Funniest moment so far lol 11:07 🤣

This concert had a runtime of 1h30, but for airing on tv they cut 30 minutes short. The first cut we have is between Everybody and Gambler. They left our Angel and the intro to Gambler.
