YES!! Love this video! I already wanted to read Guards Guards and Mort, but now I want to read Weird Sisters 😱😱 let’s be real, I just need to read all of these
Just found this and settled into watching, then for your third choice you put Pratchett's best book in 'C' tier and I'm now so anxious. Thief of Time is an absolute masterpiece and arguably Pratchett's smartest book.
Thanks for this - as you can tell from my constant comments throughout I really enjoyed watching this! Thank you Allen for this tier list. I enjoyed it alot and it is very informative. So far I have read "Mort" and loved it. Next on my TBR is "The Illustrated Guards! Guards!"
(Excited squeaks and fist punch) I just bought that book - it is so beautiful. I love Paul Kirby's art he captures the characters so perfectly! Enjoy your book!
Yeah he clearly doesn't like the more confusing Discworlds, which is obviously a fine opinion to have. But for me the climax of Pyramids with Ptaclusp IIA and IIB and all the gods coming back is absolutely hilarious
Absolutely disagree on Moving Pictures and Reaper Man, both are high S tier for me. Guess it's because I love silent movies and the early talkie era so I got the references. Also it's thankfully Susan-free. She always annoys me. How many times will she pull trying to refuse the call?
Read Color of Magic about 1000 years ago...yeah, didn't encourage me to continue on. Looking forward to Discworld discovery via Mort and Guards Guards!
Monstrous Regiment was a C for me, first reading, on an early morning flight. My recent reread has it up to A rank now, great standalone, as you said, but would recommend reading it much later, pretty much where it is in publication order, because there's cameos from quite a few characters it's best you're familiar with
Yeah there are a ton of opinions about it, but I keep telling people Guards Guards because of its pretty signature Pratchett opening and some really great characters and lines!
It really depends on your proclivities. I love the discworld novels but do not like the watch. I just cannot abide Sam Vimes although Cheery and Carrot are ok. Actually, I disagreed with every ranking except Hogfather. I am a proud Granny Weatherwax afficionada. So, if witches are your thing, you could start with the elder witches in Equal Rites or The Wee Free Men and Tiffany Achin' s journey of becoming a witch. In short, it is a matter of how deeply you want to jump into discworld. You could just start with the standalones or watch the movies.
That was actually a more even distribution than I was expecting! I thought it would be difficult not to lump the majority into S and A tier. I really need to fit Pratchett into my life!
I've just started my Discworld journey...reading The Colour of Magic as my first one....still trying to decide if I want to continue in order from there or jump around to Mort or Guards, Guards....
Why do people dislike Pyramids so much? I enjoyed the hell out of it when I read it. Granted, I listened to the Penguin Audiobook exclusively for the vast majority of it, so maybe the delivery saved it for me, but I found myself laughing out loud like a madman throughout most of it.
Excellent video as all of yours that I have seen are! I think you undervalue the whiches as a whole but other than that I largely agree with your choices. I hope you will enjoy the other moist books, I at least enjoyed them when I read them. Tonight I shall wear midnight was quite good I thought I can’t wait to see your follow up.
I wasn't going to watch this video because I read Colour of Magic and Moving Pictures and both were so hardcore meh to me that I gave up on Discworld. So glad I couldn't fall asleep and watched the vid. You may have just reignited my interest in the series. Great job explaining it all👍
I have read about 14 Discworld books already, and I intend to read the rest. I adore Terry Pratchett, and over the last few months he has become my favorite author. What astounds me is the fact that Pyramids was originally published in 1989 (Thereby introducing the Viper house) while the first Harry Potter book was published in 1997. This means that the "Viper" or "Slytherin" archetype, as we have come to recognize it, was first made up by Pratchett. I look forward to reading about the rest of the houses, but so far it seems as though Pratchett came up/ used the "Slytherin" archetype first. I do not know why Rowling is always credited with inventing the cunning/tricky/slightly annoying house. Terry Pratchett deserves more praise for bringing our attention to these brilliant ideas.
I am so glad you mentioned this. I have been talking about the Viper vs Slytherin thing for YEARS. Rowling herself even admits to being influenced by Pratchett! So glad you also saw this!!
I watch this video for comfort, after I complete a chapter of the crippled god, knowing that I am going straight into this series after Malazan. I Already have Guards! Guards! waiting for me to read it, and am also a good chunk into Mort as well. I’m 4 chapters into the crippled god. It’s pretty good so far.
@@itchyshiels1999 yes, am here for those in those tiers loved all those, of those. I feel they are really top notch Pratchett and the Discworld world was so realised and just getting to even greater heights.
Just to show how our opinions vary: I love Lords and Ladies, disliked Lost Continent. Wintersmith I thought was rather good, my favorite Tiffany book. And that's where I left off with Pratchett. I tried reading Making Money, but I couldn't understand what was going on. Same with Unseen Academicals (there's a Romeo and Juliet ish story going on if I remember from what little I read). I would love doing a Discworld reread one of these days
You definitely should! Yeah, MM and UA are just so late in the Discworld canon that I can imagine it would be hard to figure out what's going on. If you go back, read Guards Guards or Mort!
The Guards series because I like both mysteries and the kind of virtue and justice that Vimes stands for. It's also the ones thst feature the Patrician most heavily whom I also love.
I have just so much love for the Guards series. I love the watch, I love seeing it grow. I love Vimes being forced into the aristocracy world and the relationship he has with the Patrician. I love the equality messages that come across- and it is SO funny! Sadly Snuff is probably my least favourite of the series, but will need to re-read to check!
(Totally spamming your comment section sorry) If you haven't yet read Glen Cook's Garrettt P.I series, you'll get a kick from how similar-yet-different TunFaire is to Ankh-Morpork. It's not just that both cities see a changing demography as more non-human species flock in, but they sorta mirror each other with how they develop more sophisticated city institutions over the years.
I only read Nightwatch once, as I went to uni and was not allowed to take it with me as Mum had not read it...not buying new books at this stage of my life! But I recall really loving it, can't wait to re-read it. Also I love Reg Shoe.
So I am about a 5th of the way through Lords and Ladies, which I recall I really enjoyed, but can remember little about. It is holding up so far and I am loving it. Pratchett has now absolutely got these characters down perfectly the witches are in fine form, the Ogg boys are great fun, we had a fun death cameo, and I had forgotten this is where the Wizards also make an appearance. Ridcully, Busur, Stibbons and of course the fantastic librarian (Ook ) on a road trip to Lancre. It is just so good - I continue to challenge your placement of it 😉 When you have finished your guards re-read Are you going to reply them in the Tier system then compare?
Oooh I am excited to see what you think of Unseen Academicals I really enjoyed it. There are old fave characters making cameos but new characters who I really love. I find it funny and heartwarming. And just Pratchett at his best with his well rounded characters. But then I loved Thud and you dud not, but you dud love the Truth. So am intrigued to see where this falls for you. Also being from UK where the biggest sport is football and certain communities identify very strong allegencies within that is recognised and played out which I appreciated.
Aww I do love Death so much and you are right Hogfather is an absolutely amazing book - Susan's Christmas card, the pillow "and other things ending in olly" and the cameo of Sergent and Nobby at the toy shop is hilarious. 😂🤣 what a great first Pratchett book you had.
Allen! I came here to tell you that I just discovered P. G. Wodehouse! I don’t know if you’ve read him but he wrote a ton of hilarious books and some of his best are apparently about the characters Jeeves and Wooster, I’m reading Thank You, Jeeves. And Men at Arms at the moment! Just in the beginning of men at arms great line “Assassains don’t cry at a death, if they did they’d never be stopping.” Haha!
Have you read the Harry Potter books before? If you have, what is your favorite and why? I’m a huge fan of Harry Potter, I’ve read the books and watched the movies multiple times so I’m really curious.
This is a random question to ask on this video but I saw that you did reviews on all three books in the Poppy War series and I was wondering which one was your favorite and why
That was fascinating. You aren’t a fan of many of my favourites (with the exception of Nightwatch), which intrigued me. I look forward to your rereads and seeing if your opinion mellows. But that’s one of the beautiful things about Discworld. We can all take different things out of it and wouldn’t it be boring if we were all the same?
SO... moral of the story is....read Pyramids...? LOL. This was super helpful. 2021 is the year I finally venture into Pratchett...Im sure they are going to be kindred reads and you have made me extra excited about reading them, particularly Guards Guards and WItches Trilogy!
Not finished watching but I LOVE this concept! I found your channel through Jessie Mae - please bother her enough to get her to read Mort on her shelf! I have read all these, but the complete series lives 4 hours away with my Mum, so have only re-read now and then (apart from the same 10 books I have), but I am now slowly buying the series, starting with the witches. I gave just re-read equal rites, which was fun and most likely my least favourite, but was my first ever Pratchett so still has a special place.
I really need to read more Discworld...I think I read Going Postal first, and then Wyrd Sisters. (And a few others since.) I really enjoyed the TV adaptation of Colour of Magic, even though it's not the strongest book. And FYI, we just got gifted the Clacks board game over the holidays, and it's simple but pretty fun, at least in 2 player cooperative mode which is all we've tried. There's also a really amazing older game we tried at a game cafe (I think it's just called Ankh Morpork) but it's permanently out of print :(
It's fair as a lot of the humor and verbal gags are similar, but the plot is much more Gaiman than Pratchett imo but I can't see someone liking GO and not liking Discworld!
Never read a full book of discworld, but planning to this summer. I vaguely remember starting Color of Magic long ago and not understanding a single shit of what's going on except there being a walking centipede chest. Not gonna lie though, Pyramids actually sounds fucking cool.
I started with Colour of Magic, though technically I tried to read Interesting Times first, but I couldn't figure out what the hell was happening because I didn't know Rincewind, the Luggage, Ankh-Morpork, etc. I saw Hex and a few other things. I don't know why I was so determined to get into it, but I decided to just get Colour of Magic and see if that helped, and I have to say that the first two books go straight into Interesting Times so well, since that book is the direct result of those two. Really enjoyed all three, and that cemented my preference for Pratchett.
In hindsight, I think Hex sold me on the series, actually. So I suppose it stands that The Colour of Magic only works after you're already sold on it. So my recommendation for reading order is amended to be First read a book that shows you how good it gets to decide if you want to read them, and then go in order once you are sold on it, so you can see how the concepts and world develop.
I loved the video. Just for clarification however, I’m not sure about your, “hmmm” at viper house in pyramids. Pyramids came out about 10 years before HP, so I always assumed JKR ripped off Sir Terry. If that’s what the “hmm” was for and not the other way around, then I’m fully on board. Lol. Great vid, mate.
Loving the channel, but he and I get very different things from The Disc. Hat Full of Sky is my very favorite Discworld novel. How has dude not read all of the Moist books? I've still got, like, 5 to go but that still seems a wildly glaring omission. You know Vetinari is grooming him for successor Patrician, I hope? Read them. Like, you're almost missing out on the end of the Watch series by not reading the Moist books and seeing how Vetinari is setting up the unelected council of Lipwick, Vimes, and Drumknott to carry on for him. If you like the De Worde books that well, you really should read the Moist books. They're so similar I consider them part of the same series.
Great list! I totally agree with you on the S and D tiers, but... the symposium scene in Pyramids and the reverse King Kong scene in Moving Pictures are hilarious (still, definetly the two worst books). Also I hope that you'll move Witches Abroad to a much higher tier after the re-read. It's such a great book about how stories affect reality, and the ending is so damn good.
Ok who were you playing in the wryd sisters play? I took my Mum to see it, only one we have been able to see. Was great we had a fabulous time with it. Would love to see more Pratchett plays.
I too love DiscWorld, so a couple of things.. - I agree with a lot of your rankings, and am flummoxed by a few too, but I think it's because I was born in the UK, and there's a *lot* of distinctly British references in some of the books I disagree with you on - so much, that most of the humour will be missed. - I *TOTALLY* agree that Rincewind is the least engaging of the Wizards. - Stoneface Vimes, who killed the last King? was *hundreds* of years ago, Ankh Morpork has been run by grasping venal asses for centuries, supported by one faction of nobles or another* - Sam intersects with his mentor - John Keel, not Stoneface *Vetinari is unique in that he genuinely took power without any noble support, and so he has no allegiance to any of them, and so doesn't have to keep any of them happy. I'm looking forward to your rankings after re-reading, I've never really read the series in any kind of order (except reading as they were published), but I've read all of them, minimum, four times, and I'm STILL finding new jokes.
Yeah, I had literally just started my re-read so the whole A-M history is clarified again lol. I'm definitely enjoying different aspects of the Watch books this go around! It's so interesting that not only does your location (UK/US) change your perception of these books but also just your stage in life. Reading them now 15 years later, I'm loving them all over again!
@@TheLibraryofAllenxandria hit up YT for clips of old comedian Tommy Cooper (for Fred reference in Jingo), and Frank Spencer - played by Michael Crawford, who was the first Phantom, in THE Phantom of the Opera - from Some Mothers Do 'Ave Em (for Maskerade).
So many people seem to dislike Pyramids, and it's my third favorite stand alone after Small gods and The truth. Every time I read Djelibeibi I had a laughing fit, and the Camels!! I have to agree it's really weird though. I'm still reading them all for the first time and in publication order, so I'm sonewhere around Night watch and Wee free men
Yessssss Night Watch is so good! And yeah, most people I know also hate Pyramids though there have been a couple in response to this who have said they love it
I am so tempted to skip Pyramids every reread! It starts off well, has it's moments, but just gets to confusing towards the end. The camels were terrific though!
😂😂😂😂...and Tied of time I love and as I own that one is my most read book. I love the auditors I love Igors and it has Nanny Off making an appearance and Susan always kicks ass.
@@TheLibraryofAllenxandria I just love the extra time we have with the auditors and what happens with them. Yes the time m9nks are v confusing, but I think I took the attitude of not needing to understand and just going along with the ride!
I’m a little bit confused. You said in your Discworld overview video that it’s predominantly pre-industrial era. But then there is talk of super computers and stuff? I guess it only makes sense when you read it, from the outside though it’s like.... huh?😅 I am conflicted about reading Discworld. English is not my first language, and since vocabulary and word twisting seems to be a big part of the experience, I”m worried my English level might not be high enough to ger it. On the other hand, reading it translated doesn’t seem very appealing either, knowing everything to do with word play and puns almost unavoidably gets butchered in translation.
hahahah Pyramids is so bad lol I'm currently reading the Watch books, then will probably shift to Death or Witches, though I'll probably do the standalones first.
I really really want to love Discworld, but everyone says how 'Guards Guards' is the best book in the whole series and I didn't live it. I thought it was pretty good, but that's it. So if it only goes down from there idk if it's for me? I also read 'The Colour of Magic' and didn't really like that.
Very interesting! Honestly, from the 19 Discworld novels I have read so far Wintersmith is my favorite (slightly above Guards Guards). It seems to be targeted at young gels and I'm neither young nor a gel, haha. I would put none in tier D and S, 2 in tier C (Small Gods + The Colour of Magic) and I would put all others in tier A or B.
Oh no... 😔 I love the Nag Mac Feeagles - I love the Tiffany series, as going to say was excited for you tjat you have not read Wintersmith, but as the lo e is already missing...maybe not. And Thud is my favourite guards book!!! Alas - but on a plus poi t i cannot recall Pyramids at all so tjat probably says it for that one!
@@TheLibraryofAllenxandria with Thud, I just enjoyed the continuous expansion of the watch and I particularly enjoyed the origins of the troll and dwarf beef coming to a head. Also the non stop working police officer trying to have a work life balance and be there for his son "that's not my cow" But I am also looking forward to re-reading the watch series after the witches, so will see if it holds up to memory. Looking forward to seeing what you think of your non read books and if the Tiffany series improves for you. I liked 3 and 4 the best, but I loved them to start with CRIVENS!!! NAE king NAE queen NAE master, we'll not be fooled again!
my assumption is, that the tiffany aching books might be doing a bit worse in terms of sales than the others, and that's why they put Wee Free Man on that list, I can't think of any other reasonable explanation.
Pyramids isn't that bad, it's better than Thief of Time, at the very least! Also, fun fact, Equal Rites was the first "grown-up" book I ever read in English. Took me 2 months to finish and I don't think I understood much -- even the pun in the title was something I only figured out years later.
What I’m understanding is start with Wee Free Men and it’s all downhill from there. In all seriousness, As soon as I get my hands of a discworld book I’m dropping everything to read it.
I personally love the Tiffany saga. And I like the last 2 books the most. And wintersmith is my least favourite. In discworld everyone gonna find something for themselves
LORDS AND LADIES is D teiered!!!... Colour of Magic is above this!!!! Ok so I will have to get back to you on why I disagree as I can't remember it! I am about to re-read wryd sisters and so have 2 books before I re-read. I just know I loved all the witches books and this was wryd sisters, and Carpe Juggulum level for me as I recall. 😂😂 I love different opinions!
You don’t like Pyramids in the land of Djelibeybi (jelly baby) where they plan to flee to the land of Hersheba (Hershey bar). One of the best sweet (or candy) based jokes of all time!?
Comment while watching (😄): the UK covers are the best! The US covers are so bleh! Like D tier for covers 😄 Science of Discworld is missing!!! I agree about COM and LF. Actually, as far as I know, those 2 were meant to be like a funny tribute to fantasy. You find a lot of characters from known works. Lords and Ladies: if you hate the elves, then Pterry reached his goal. Those elves are exactly how he pictures them from lore, nasty and playing around with humans like cats play with their prey. At least that's what I heard/read him say. Equal rites: yes, it concentrates on why women can't be wizards. But deeper down it's about exactly what the title says, if you say it without looking at it 😄 So it's not among my favourites either, but I like the central subect matter, and I also consider that this is the book in which Pterry really started the satirical DW series, so he might not have found his stride yet. Small Gods: YES!!! Witches Abroad: the first half is the best. The travel scenes are just hilarious!!! there's also the only DW scene in it that had me crying.
@@TheLibraryofAllenxandria just out of curiosity, where would you place them? Me, Science of DW 1 & 3 are S tier, Science of DW 2, I can't quite remember, I'd have to re-read it, and I haven't read book 4 yet.
There isn't a Discworld book that I don't like, not one. I like some more than others, but I don't dislike any. Tiffany Aching and Rincewind are my least favorite sub series. I actually love Thief of Time, it's one of my most read in the series! My favorite book in the series is probably the one I'm currently rereading, whichever one that happens to be at the time. The Shepherd's Crown is the last Discworld book published before STP passed, it was very sad, but I wish his last book hadn't been a Tiffany Aching book.
@@bernhardrenner5176 I still appreciated it, and if you've read it, you know why it's sad (besides being the least one). I just don't love the Tiffany books as much, probably because I don't connect as well with YA, so I wish we could have had the last one be from the Watch, Death, or Moist.
@@TheLibraryofAllenxandria It's not among my favorites, but i still enjoy it. I agree that it would have been nice to have more of a look inside the Assassin's Guild besides just the beginning of this book. I found the mystic angle interesting and entertaining. **SPOILERS** I particularly liked the dead father's ghost, his realization of what being embalmed and stuck in the pyramid meant for his afterlife was great. Also, the sassy handmaiden was a bright spot.

Nice! Yeah, I just don't think CoM is a great entry! Hopefully you like GG or Mort a little better!
Monstrous Regiment was a C for me, first reading, on an early morning flight. My recent reread has it up to A rank now, great standalone, as you said, but would recommend reading it much later, pretty much where it is in publication order, because there's cameos from quite a few characters it's best you're familiar with
Exactly! Many of the standalones I find are better once you're more familiar with the world and characters at large.
I have been wanting to pick up Discworld for SO dang long. But everyone tells me a different place to start 😬
Yeah, I tried to be fair within the Discworld so that it WASN'T all S and A tier!
Just curious if you've read some of the unread books in the last few years and how close they are to your predictions? Raising Steam, Snuff, etc.
I read Guards! Guards! in December and it was a great time. My first DW. Haven't decided which one to read next.
Yesssss! Read Men at Arms next!
Just started Mort! Perfect timing :)
Yesssss!!
I have no idea how I missed this. I can't wait to get to the City Watch books (and to see how your rankings change when you do this again!).
Newly subscribed! I really want to get into discworld
Yessss doooo eeeet!!
Just think what book of Discworld to read next.
I wasn't going to watch this video because I read Colour of Magic and Moving Pictures and both were so hardcore meh to me that I gave up on Discworld. So glad I couldn't fall asleep and watched the vid. You may have just reignited my interest in the series. Great job explaining it all👍
Thanks so much! Yes, give it another shot outside those two books!
Two of my S tier books are in c tier which is the beautiful thing about Discworld that nothing is universal and something for everyone
Completely agree! Which 2 are your S tier?
@@TheLibraryofAllenxandria Thud! and Thief of Time, with Going Postal, the Truth and Night Watch being the other S tier books for me
@@itchyshiels1999 yes, am here for those in those tiers loved all those, of those. I feel they are really top notch Pratchett and the Discworld world was so realised and just getting to even greater heights.
Started with CoM and it felt so meh. I haven’t read another Disc world yet despite wanting too. Will check out Guards Guards soon.
Doooooo eeeeeet!
Great to see some American appreciation for Discworld!
Yesssssssssss
That one about the movie industry actually sounds interesting to me
It's a trap! It only SOUNDS interesting. 😛
Hi! I really like Discworld and enjoy the way you talk about them🇺🇾👋
I am so keen to read Discworld! Hopefully when I'm done I can come back to this video and compare! Subscribed btw! Dan from Australia
Awesome and welcome!!
Haven't read all of them but I have a feeling that "Lords and Ladies" will remain my favorite.
I literally cried and had goosebumps reading the finale
What’s your favorite series within Discworld and why?
It is just so good - I continue to challenge your placement of it 😉
When you have finished your guards re-read Are you going to reply them in the Tier system then compare?
But there’s a ton of sub series and you can read them in any order as well with Wodehouse to me it’s like discovering Pratchett all over again.
Have you read the Harry Potter books before? If you have, what is your favorite and why? I’m a huge fan of Harry Potter, I’ve read the books and watched the movies multiple times so I’m really curious.
GOBLET OF FIYAH
What do you like about it?
cant believe you dislike pyramids, its one of my fave discworld novels
Hahahaha that is a hot take!
This is a random question to ask on this video but I saw that you did reviews on all three books in the Poppy War series and I was wondering which one was your favorite and why
Dragon Republic for sure. Great action, great pacing, TONS of war and the introduction of the Hesperians, which are so amazingly arrogant.
This makes me so excited for the remaining Discworld books. Are you planning on doing a Malazan Tier List as well ?
Ooooo I should definitely do that!
Hahahah do not start with Pyramids lol
Pyramids is superb. My top 5 easily.
Monstrous Regiment was my first Discworld book. 😊
I love it!
Yes! Our first Pratchett has a huge impact forever!
So glad you found the channel! I'm CONSTANTLY talking to Jessie about Discworld, so no worries! 😛
@@TheLibraryofAllenxandria ha ha yes thought you probably would be.
You rated several books you've never read?
I really need to read more Discworld...I think I read Going Postal first, and then Wyrd Sisters. (And a few others since.) I really enjoyed the TV adaptation of Colour of Magic, even though it's not the strongest book.
And FYI, we just got gifted the Clacks board game over the holidays, and it's simple but pretty fun, at least in 2 player cooperative mode which is all we've tried. There's also a really amazing older game we tried at a game cafe (I think it's just called Ankh Morpork) but it's permanently out of print :(
Whaaaaat! I'm glad Ankh Morpork was awesome! I didn't know anyone who had played it!
@@TheLibraryofAllenxandria I'm so sad it's permanently out of print-even a couple of my husband's friends who had never heard of Discworld loved it.
Is it fair to compare "Good Omens" to a Discworld book or it is completly another thing?
It's fair as a lot of the humor and verbal gags are similar, but the plot is much more Gaiman than Pratchett imo but I can't see someone liking GO and not liking Discworld!
Never read a full book of discworld, but planning to this summer. I vaguely remember starting Color of Magic long ago and not understanding a single shit of what's going on except there being a walking centipede chest.
Not gonna lie though, Pyramids actually sounds fucking cool.
hahahha that's how it gets you...it does SOUND cool...I assure you it is not 😛
I started with Colour of Magic, though technically I tried to read Interesting Times first, but I couldn't figure out what the hell was happening because I didn't know Rincewind, the Luggage, Ankh-Morpork, etc.
That is literally what the hmm was for! Solidarity!
Pyramids is way better than he's giving it credit for.
Wyrd Sisters is a Macbeth skit--word by word at times. I love it
it's so freaking good
Going postal is so good!
Yes!! I have a feeling I'll appreciate WA more now that I'm older!
Unseen Academicals was actually my first Discworld book and I really liked it just because of how strange it was.
What, reaper man is one of my favorites
Ok who were you playing in the wryd sisters play?
I took my Mum to see it, only one we have been able to see. Was great we had a fabulous time with it. Would love to see more Pratchett plays.
I was Tomjon and also the demon!
Lol amazing! Bet tjat was great fun.
- Stoneface Vimes, who killed the last King? was *hundreds* of years ago, Ankh Morpork has been run by grasping venal asses for centuries, supported by one faction of nobles or another* - Sam intersects with his mentor - John Keel, not Stoneface
*Vetinari is unique in that he genuinely took power without any noble support, and so he has no allegiance to any of them, and so doesn't have to keep any of them happy.
@@derrisreaditbefore I love Michael Crawford
So many people seem to dislike Pyramids, and it's my third favorite stand alone after Small gods and The truth. Every time I read Djelibeibi I had a laughing fit, and the Camels!! I have to agree it's really weird though. I'm still reading them all for the first time and in publication order, so I'm sonewhere around Night watch and Wee free men
Yessssss Night Watch is so good! And yeah, most people I know also hate Pyramids though there have been a couple in response to this who have said they love it
I saw the Hogfather movie loved it..
So good
That is my Christmas must watch 😁
I am so tempted to skip Pyramids every reread! It starts off well, has it's moments, but just gets to confusing towards the end. The camels were terrific though!
Hahahaha yeah, it's just so freaking WEIRD
Gaspode a poodle!!?? For shame sir, for shame
😂😂😂😂...and Tied of time I love and as I own that one is my most read book. I love the auditors I love Igors and it has Nanny Off making an appearance and Susan always kicks ass.
I LOVE the Auditors...I think ToT was really confusing for me, though. I'm excited for re-read.
I guess it only makes sense when you read it, from the outside though it’s like.... huh?😅
I am conflicted about reading Discworld.
So the super computer is made out of pre industrial parts..it's basically magic!
So glad your tree is still up. So is mine.
YESSSSSSS
I shall wear midnight is A.
I’ll watch this once I’ve read all of them, so basically in two weeks or so 😂
hahahahhaa
What's crazy is Pyramids sounds like the most interesting one based off of the synopsis. Assassin school, mysticism, freaking Egyptian PYRAMIDS! :(
I KNOW! I thought the same thing!
Sorry if you've said before, but in what order are you re-reading them?
"D Tier is the Pyramids Tier" xD
hahahah Pyramids is so bad lol
I'm currently reading the Watch books, then will probably shift to Death or Witches, though I'll probably do the standalones first.
I really really want to love Discworld, but everyone says how 'Guards Guards' is the best book in the whole series and I didn't live it. I thought it was pretty good, but that's it. So if it only goes down from there idk if it's for me? I also read 'The Colour of Magic' and didn't really like that.
Nooooo! That saddens me!
As a last gasp, I might try Mort or Hogfather, but otherwise, it's ok if they're not your favorites!
@@TheLibraryofAllenxandria I'll try Mort next. I'm not giving up yet lol
What I don't like about Feet of clay: they start to care about golems yet keep killing sentient animals for food
Hahahahha read Pyramids and report back! 😛

And Thud is my favourite guards book!!! Alas - but on a plus poi t i cannot recall Pyramids at all so tjat probably says it for that one!
Wow! Thud! as the fav? Hot take! 😛
I'm excited to actually finish the Wee Free Men series and hit the books I've missed.
Oooo, I didn't consider that
Pyramids isn't that bad, it's better than Thief of Time, at the very least!
Also, fun fact, Equal Rites was the first "grown-up" book I ever read in English. Took me 2 months to finish and I don't think I understood much -- even the pun in the title was something I only figured out years later.
I, too, didn't love Thief of time, but you're the first person I've met that likes anything less than Pyramids!
What I’m understanding is start with Wee Free Men and it’s all downhill from there.
In all seriousness, As soon as I get my hands of a discworld book I’m dropping everything to read it.
hahahahaha
I personally love the Tiffany saga. And I like the last 2 books the most. And wintersmith is my least favourite.

Holy shit I know this comment is a year old but I've only just realised that Hersheba was a pun. Idk how I never noticed it before
Comment while watching (😄): the UK covers are the best! The US covers are so bleh! Like D tier for covers 😄
Science of Discworld is missing!!!
You're right, but the template i was using didn't have them and I thought 41 was enough for one vid. 😛
@@TheLibraryofAllenxandria just out of curiosity, where would you place them? Me, Science of DW 1 & 3 are S tier, Science of DW 2, I can't quite remember, I'd have to re-read it, and I haven't read book 4 yet.
@@agnesmetanomski6730 I actually have yet to read them! They, too, were published during my dead years! I'm excited to get to them this year
There isn't a Discworld book that I don't like, not one.
Nice! I love hearing people's opinions on these! How do you feel about Pyramids?
The Shepherd's Crown wasn't as finished as STP would have liked it according to his assistant Rob Wilkins.
