That is a Würzburg-Riese gun laying radar. My reading indicated that the Vietnamese acquired a number of them, along with the corresponding WWII flak cannons, for the defenses around Hanoi. I don't believe it behaves as a proper gun laying radar in DCS, but I was able to add those radars into Skynet, so there were being used to help direct SAM batteries and fighters in this scenario.

Fun fact on the A-4, the leading edge slats operate automatically from the force of the air. Slow down, they drop, speed up they pull up. You can push these up if you visit the USS Midway Museum in San Diego.

Perfect length cuts, nothing passed too quickly or lingered too long. Very clear shots. Could have been from a TV-show 👍
thx Teddy
A-4 sweet machine! Alan Shepards ride.
The famous Alan Shepard who gave us the famous ' Shepards prayer'
Epic vid. Great camera work as well. Woot GR ppl!!
@ 27:38 -- What took down the F-117 flying over Serbia, ~1998 ??
29:49 goin from a chill chat to edge-of-seat evasion is hilarious
Very nice video. Driving stealth is very boring compared to the olden days!
Someone else suggested simulating a wild-weasel attack, I'll second that!
Another interesting scenario you’ve concocted Grim. I spose the only comment I would make is sims don’t handle electronic warfare particularly well, they have other fish to fry, the in cockpit experience. And it’s not like any Air Force is going to fork over the details of its electronic warfare capability to a sim maker. Regardless I applaud your out of the box thinking with your scenarios
Those SAMs just loving Simba .. he's doing a very good job avoiding them
at 23:57 . u can see a unit called würzburg ewr at the bottom right corner , does anybody have an idea what that is ? i live in a city in germany called würzburg , thats why i was wondering
@@KortanaDCS interesting, i maybe thought it had something to do with the airraids in ww2 that struck the city :

Could you also have had A6 Intruders flying Iron hand and jamming the enemy RADAR prior to flying in? Thereby giving your aircraft more of a chance?
I always loved,”Flight of the Intruder”. Willam Defoe is absolutely perfect in his role as a psychotic wizzo.
First attempt was hillarious. I did spot a couple areas of the map that did not have coverage. Maybe next time you can fill the map with a few more AA defenses. That felon is like a mac truck compared to those american fighters. Looks like Simba had all the excitement.
Awesome videos, commentary and analysis.
Flight of the Intruder" is indeed the best movie ever! "They will never expect us to come round again!" Well done GR's!
I remember reading Flight of the Intruder decades ago, and was really impressed with it.
After avoiding about 50 missiles, Simba: "I've got a launch." LOLOLOL
Yeh I noticed that...
Simba absolutely Hakuna Matata'ing those notches!
lol
Fun fact on the A-4, the leading edge slats operate automatically from the force of the air. Slow down, they drop, speed up they pull up. You can push these up if you visit the USS Midway Museum in San Diego.
One of the most long-lived airfoil mod innovations. Invented in 1918 by a guy named Gustav Lachman in 1918 and independently by Handley-Page a year later. They were commonly known as 'Handley-Page slots' or 'slats' early on. Most first-famously used on the ME-109 IMHO
Cap and Kortana just cruising and chatting Simba diving and knotching for his life and the Sams just keep coming!!
Oh man, Flight of the Intruder was one of my favorites growing up.
It would be fun to see if you could use 40’s or 50’s stuff against Baghdad during Desert Storm.
Another greate video !!! Cool map Kortana !!! Question: is ther anyway to get the missions you guys make ??
I love these ol fighter jets and such, you guys ever flown side by side missions with modern and older aircraft?
Im looking at getting DCS officially.
In the face valued viewers! Haha, great video as always.
Simba's incorrect configuration setting tipped off the defenders that an attack was coming. Please re-run with correct stealth config for F-35.
yup my fault. i will apply the right amount of stealth paint next time and not use the cheap crap lol
@@simba1113 When I tried the VSN F-35, it didn't seem to simulate a reduced RCS at all...has that changed?
@@simba1113 I didn't mean to point fingers. 'hope no offense taken. :-)
@@hotironaircraftshop Yup I am totally offended and I will petition the UN to write you a strongly worded condemnation letter before threatening you wit an over whelming amount of sanctions for the waste water you are exporting from your master bathroom. lololololol. god not I am not offended. this is social media. I just joke and troll my self as to not take it too serious. cheers thanks for watching and commenting
Kortana says attack at night. US said that and for day time raids to jam the skies full friendly aircraft with a decent assortment of jamming of radar.
That was a great sim. The threat of the SAM and AAA net in NV was so great our actions were limited up there throughout the war. Note Saddam Huessein modeled the air defenses of Baghdad around what NVA did in Hanoi which is why in 91 it was a cruise missile strikes along with the stealths attacking Baghdad. I wondered if you did a 91 Baghdad strike on opening night of Desert Storm on SAM City if you get the same result we did in 91.
Its so much more enjoyable with all the extra camera angles~
Not correct me if I'm wrong I believe the A6 Intruders had the radar jammers to where they couldn't pick you up on radar flying through
Dang, Cortana! You're as cool under fire as a mountain lake. Well done!
Kortana is an amazing pilot. She knew how to dodge and fly that plane like a pro in the second run. If it wasn't for the second Mig, she would have splashed her Mig and got back to penetrating the air defenses. I was really impressed.
Hope Cortana had a fantastic holiday. She's the woman.
I'd love to see you guys do Flight of the Intruder, but with F-35'S, do every mission for the movie, then do designed Hanoi flight for SAM City & some bombing / missile runs at some air bases. It'd be one helluva series!
Love the A 4 sky hawk! Really looking forward to the A 6 as well.
Love the AK markings on the f22s. Im near jber and see those all the time. Alaska has a huge f22 group
