I'm going to be a biology teacher here in Brazil, and by watching your videos i found out by example dat being direct, funny and using analogies is the best way to teach someone something. Wowzers thank you for existing. Hope you can understand my shitty english.
You are a genius by Einstein's standards. You can explain a complex concept into such sinplified terms that even a child or a grandparent can understand. I wish I was naturally a good teacher. Thanks UB
I am so glad I discovered this channel. I really suck at producing, and I wish I could have found you sooner. The entertainment and learning is top notch!
Panning's always been a big iffy question for me; most nightclub sound systems are mono, and heavy panning can potentially result in weird phase cancellation problems when the left and right channels are mixed together. Stereo is typically just for the home environment. So at the very least, it would be advisable if you use panning to check it by listening to a mono mix, or through a single speaker with both the left and right channels going into it.
Got to comment and give right to a guy from another video here saying underbelly could be a teacher. Make sure you provide it as easy and clear as possible to get every last one sucking at producing to learn and understand. Thanks for your time and effort, man.
0:24 - *No.* Spacial location of sound sources mainly relies on the runtime (i.e. phase) difference between left and right. This is also why we suck at locating low frequencies, because their phase shift is dwarfed by their own wavelength. This is further why a good DAW pan control should modify the l/r volume _AND_ the delay between left and right channel. I have never found a DAW that openly does this. As far as I can tell, every "pan" knob is basically just a "balance" button as we used to find them on stereo amplifiers. Which is why spatialization plugins still rule the VST ecosystem. Which would be completely obsolete if DAWs finally started doing what they can easily do instead of still trying to emulate analog consoles and their restrictions.
Thanks for all the support throughout the years dad. I know it wasn't always easy during my heroin phase but I think we make a stronger family and have a tighter relationship because of it.
the only thing i feel you missed is that by panning left or right you turn down one side... and if you right click te pan knob then you split the channels to be able to true pan
Why is it when I duplicate instrument or sample or whatever and pan them to left and right and it doesn't work. What should I do? Also if I export one of that loop and then when i pan them to left and right then it works howcome?
In the early days of MIDi drum machines, it was normally recommended to pan each part of the kit like a real drum kit, with kick and snare in the middle and then Tom's and cymbals going from left to right. Claps could be placed wherever there was space in the mix. But these days you have more freedom. You can even have hats and percussion bouncing from side to side (with an autopan plugin), which wasn't really possible when engineers used fixed microphones around an accoustic drum kit. The key thing to do is get everything balanced, so if you have two percussive parts that use similar frequencies, you can pan them hard left and right if you want the listener to be able to hear them separately, but you rarely want one side to be all bassy and the other trebly as it will sound unbalanced.
Is Ableton paying you yet? Cause they definitely should be. Great software, but you are the main reason I'm about to drop a couple hundred on that full access shit.
RUclips audio apparently can't be 100% panned, at least with Bluetooth. Too lazy to grab my wired headphones. It's either a Bluetooth thing or a RUclips compression thing.
Panning confuses me. I work with FL Studio and there, the Panning button and the Stereo/Mono button do the same...I dont know when to do what! Help! And yeah...I suck at producing...
Uh I suck at that stuff... But I figured out something... If you can go left, or right... That's great. * But what about; front of the speaker, (i.e.) the cone. And in the back of the speaker (i.e.) in the speaker box, the bass- refex. All that's louder, and undefined. But the cone that's like a little out-let valve. Does inverting the track send it back. I've tried using a inverted track, to pull the speaker back; when the gain is high.[ To get soft distortion.] Can you help us? What is that called?
You usually use some kind of delay or reverb or chorus (i.e. some kind of time-based effect) to make sounds seem like they are coming from further away. e.g. You usually have the kick drum in the middle and "upfront" right on the beat with no delay/reverb, but if you put some reverb on synths or pads, the sound appears to reach our ears later, which makes it sound like it's travelled further. Inverting the phase of a sound basically turns the waveform upside down. It's useful if you have two sounds that are "phasing" (cancelling each other out and creating that wishy-washy airplane taking off sound), but it won't have a discernible effect on a single sound. It just means the speaker will go forwards instead of backwards (compared to before), but still vibrate at the same frequency as before. Even sub bass frequencies of 40Hz are way too fast for your eyes to see, let alone for your ears to be able to tell which direction the speaker cone is travelling.
@@yousuckatproducing Very different time, but I guess you like Giles Martin's remixes more. Also, it was mainly George Martin's fault for all this hard panning.
Glad to meet a community that sucks at producing as much as me. Thanks for providing this community Baby
thanks for watching dude! should have you on the show sometime
@@yousuckatproducing when is this happening?
a big channel, wowzers
Your comedic timing is very strong. Thank you
thank you keaton

You could also name the last two tracks "left leg" and "right leg" and then... you know, spread them a little bit. Nice tutorial dad. Thank you!
im sad not to have thought of this. thank you friend
Senpai's mind is pure. Uses children as an example. Senpai must not be sad.
but then we wouldn't be opening up children so i have to give this suggestion a 0/10
So that's why master used children here!! Now I see clearly! Thanks man for "opening up" my mind. I owe you one!

Streams are good, but lessons are the real gold. Please post them more often. I was starting to get worried already. Thanks!

That song is a bop. I want to listen to the whole thing.

A video about tips and tricks inside ableton (not necessarily anything beat making related), please.

I don’t know if that was even an option when this came out

kind sir, would you be able to let me know if I suck at producing in your next live stream? Great vid as usual
sure thing, send beats to djunderbelly@gmail.com
just sent it, thank you my man !

But muh speakers are both mono
oh
Any easy way to keep the mono mix untouched after switching back from stereo with panning? (using cubase)
Also delay the sound in the less loud channel for a cool 3D effect
I love your videos!
Send this beat to VIPER immediately
Hey Underbelly, does it matter on which side you pan e.g. the hi hats or the claps, is there an industry standard or do you just do your thing?
In the early days of MIDi drum machines, it was normally recommended to pan each part of the kit like a real drum kit, with kick and snare in the middle and then Tom's and cymbals going from left to right. Im starting to think uncle Joe is real...

Everyone has an uncle Joe. It's just that he uses a different name in each family.
I'm a simple man, If I saw an Underbelly's video, I just thumbs up in the first second of it.
this was so funny wtfff
bro you're hilarious
you're on your Beatles whatever 😭
The Beatles suck at producing

Thanks a lot, this was just what i was looking for, i made a track and then when i listened to... it sucked xd
If it doesn't sound good in mono it won't sound good in stereo
This guy sounds like Klaus from Umbrella Academy but even more just not bothered with life
Yeboiiiiiiiiiiiii
oh yes
That's too much panning for percurssion, I think.
