This man is a natural teacher. I like him, and his tutorials. Seems to understand the initial problems that could make new users fail. His points are well thought out, the things he tells you are the things you need to know. Very smart bloke this is.

everything before that is useless if you are a beginner

    Actual lesson starts from 12:21
Until then, it's all about his idea of how he would approach the tutorial. Save your time for those who wants to skip or what have you.

IDE = Integrated Development Environment. What that means is that everything you need to do the programming is part of the programming package. In the old days compilers, linkers, editors were separate software. The IDE puts all the pieces together in an easy to use package. Arduino IDE even includes functionality to send the sketch to the controller.

    Thank you!

Ok, I have just had a look at the "Getting started with Arduino" book and that is how they connect the LED for the blinking LED exercise. They do however post this note: "If you intend to keep the LED lit for a long period of time, you should use a resister as described on page 56."
Thanks, I will still add this annotation.

I got an Arduino Uno for Christmas and as an absolute beginner had no idea where to start with it. I had a hunch that you might have videos on something similar, and lo and behold! Exactly what I was looking for. Thanks Martin, great videos as always, can't wait to start my first project with it.

    Hello,
Ok, if you do want to post some suggestions the easiest place is on my forum:mjlorton(dot)com.
I will also try to produce Arduino tutorials that cover the practical aspects and limitations.
Having both the 9v and USB connected will not really help. To power bigger devices form an Arduino you need to start using FETs, relays etc. I will cover this in a tutorial.
    Cheers,
    Martin.

I have subscribed to your channel for a while and you are really very helpful explaining things. Hello! I'm having issue with my arduino uno. It was working OK couple days ago. But now it has problem with uploading. When I try to upload, first it stuck at uploading, after a while it gives quite a long error message starts with
    Problem uploading board,
avrdude: stk500_recv(): programmer is not responding
avrdude: stk500_getsync() attempt 1 of 10: not in sync: resp=0x2c
avrdude: stk500_recv(): programmer is not responding................etc. I tried almost all the tricks and instructions online such as reset button. None of them didn't work. I'm sure that my ports and other options for Arduino UNO are correct. When I connect my arduino to computer I hear the device insertion sound, also yellow(L) and green(ON) lights of the arduino board are on. I reinstalled software. And when I connect arduino it has installed the port automatically which means board and computers' connection is OK. Also when I connect my arduino board to motor driver, my stepper motor is working with the code which I uploaded previously. How can I fix it? Please tell me if there is other way. Thank you!

Liked the first video so far! I like that you encourage beginners to spend time and tinker with the board/code and work on their own projects. During the discussion of the first basic "blinking program" you cad add a note up top to "try modifying the code to change the light frequency" or something similar.

Thank you for the time you have put in to these tutorials. I'm a CompTIA A+ technitian and a degree in computer system technology. Got this to expand my knowledge. You do a very thorough explanation which filled in some of the puzzle pieces missing. Keep it up. I was wondering, if you had the time to show us video dedicated to lcd's. and more in depth of shields. There are so many. I just bought a touchscreen lcd shield, which I have no idea how to find a sketch for that particular screen yet. This has so many applications it's intimidating, for me. But, the software is good and simple in my opinion.

Excellent introduction. I have been enjoying my Raspberry Pi for the past few weeks. My Arduino came today. So I am excited to kick the tires on it. I have played with Teensy in the past. Historically I worked with Fairchild, Signetics, and National Semiconductor back in the 70's. Great job, keep up the tutorials. I gave my Nieces each an Arduino Uno R3. They are both young hardware hackers. They built a dozen computers from parts and pieces over the last few years. Thank you for your efforts.

Robin...a screw on a socket should work but I would warn you to be very careful as you are near the mains (for safety reasons). I would say go to your local hardware / electronics store and ask advice on a safe way to earth yourself. I might try cover this in a future video too.

Thanks for the video. I am am utter beginner with this, so will be working through the following vids. Pity there are so many people who cant help from making negative critical comments. As if there is some optimal way of explaining something so complex, to a world of people with different pre existing knowledge, abilities and available time. Or that you can just pick it all up on 5 minutes! Experience suggests that IF you actually have a go, rather than just surf RUclips, then all the detailed explanations will prove to be highly valuable.

I've got an Arduino clone that has been sitting on my shelf at home for ages.
Maybe this series will be just the kick up the backside I need to get playing with it.
Cheers for the good Videos Martin

that was a good kick starter 101 to Arduino. I am going to order the kit soon. Another "glitch" that can happen which I read online somewhere is not to connect the USB to PC along with power supply simultaneously.
