- Wanted to create this tutorial and give out my furbrush settings for free (since SOME creators like to keep theirs a secret) 🙄

Underrated. I don't comment a lot, but really gotta say, great tutorial, thank you for making this. If you only use substance like twice a year, learing and remembering things is a pain in the rear, but this tutorial brings you back to speed in no time. Please never delete this, i will need it again every half year or so
Of course! Glad I could help!
Fantastic tutorial. I've been using the furbrush for over a year, but there were a lot of details in here I was completely unaware of, and it 's helped immensely with my texture quality
Glad I could help!!
Thanks i wanted to redo my texture a while ago but never figured out how the fur brush actually works great tutorial :p
Glad I could help!
Thanks for this tutorial. Saves me time from making hair with real geometry in blender. Btw the paint along path update in substance painter has made painting fur so much easier!
The "Follow path" tool? And of course! Make sure you're using the updated brush settings in the description! It looks A LOT better than the ones used in the video!
@@P3RCY I tried your updated settings but it doesn't look good for what I'm working on. What settings do you suggest for short and fine body hair like a horse's hair coat for example?
@@arise3494 id recommend the ones used in the video then. Don't use the updated ones
@@P3RCY okay that worked thanks. One last question, I'm trying to make the fur look shiny by adjusting the roughness value in a new fill layer. I used a black mask and a fill referencing to the fur anchor point but the fur color just becomes washed out and not shiny. I also went to the Fur Data layer changed the roughness in the Tweaking section but it doesn't work. How can I achieve this effect?
@@arise3494 The only thing I can think of is having a fill layer with no roughness so it'll be really shiny. Other than that, it would have to be done outside of Substance painter. Mainly in Unity. You can edit and play with the setting software how shiny the textures are
It's interesting that you use the fur brush on the mask layer as well. The official manual recommends using a basic soft brush, I'll have to try the fur brush to see how that changes things.
This tutorial is a bit out dated. I actually do use a soft brush for the masking layers now. I highly recommend using the soft brush like the manual says! :3
Use it all the time I need a refresher on how to set it up! Tysm
Thankk you so much
first time user, Yeezipeezi and enjoyfull ~
i had the furrbrushh for a whiile alrdy but gave up onnit till today ~ eep thnx
Thank you, this brush is excellent
Of course! I have the updated brush settings in the description for a much more detailed fur pattern!
Great tutorial. Thank you!
This looks neat.
I would love to know what Unity shader seetings, and SPP export settings you use.
i dont understand this part, when you start using the the smudge brush, how did you get it to brush like that? mine only does what the eraser does
It's completely optional to use the smudge brush, but the settings I use are in the video
It's a nice but I can't use because not lot of money for purchasing
Well done.
What about the color tips? How should i use that layer?
@@prototype9-9 I actually don't use that layer anymore! I just delete it
@@P3RCYgot it, thanks for the response
One thing I noticed is that it looks way better in substance than in unity. Have you got any unity shader to recommend using with it? Tried standart and poiyomi but none really worked as well as the substance one.
Nope. I think it's just the way it transfers over sadly
make shure to export your textures in the 4k resolution you probaply work in, then in unity it default reduces the resolution to 2k textures. that might be part on the quality loss.
but in general yes, substance renders the materials a lot cleaner than the unity standard shader.
I have a lot of problems reopening a project, somehow the brush lags way too much to the point that it doesn't draw at all. I haven't found anything about this on internet, any way to go around this problem?
- BloomJox
Sounds like you might need to clear the Substance Painter cache. Only time mine lags is when I made longs strokes with the brush
No free alternatives?
got an issue where the brush just looks super low res. my base and everything im painting on is 4k but it looks nothing like what your painting here. not sure what ive done differently
Try using the new brush settings I put in the description
Did more research and testing, it all depends on how much geometry it has and how many polygons. The less, the more blurry and low quality it looks
Great tutorial! I just finished my rex up, but when I export it to unity, none of the fur texture is there. Is there any way to fix this? I've messed with the texture sizes but it still doesn't show up.
DM me a screenshot of what it looks like in unity and what it looks like in substance painter to my Discord: percyvr
@@P3RCY I fixed it! Realized I had the max size to 512 in SP so I couldn't go any higher in unity. I switched it to 2048 and on unity they looked the same :) Is there any way to keep the fur detail though when it's at a lower resolution? I need to make it for quest as well but then it does look grainy
@@FinnFoxx23 sadly the lower in resolution size you go, the lower the quality looks. It's why on PC I set my textures in Substance Painter and Unity to 4096x4096 (4k)
Each time I try and import the smart material, the left 1/4 of the model is gold while the rest is a brown. Any idea why?
I have never had that happen before? I'm not sure
@@P3RCY Everything was fine before I downloaded the files, now all of my avatars are breaking when I open them. I'll have to try re-installing substance painter
Update: Re-installing did nothing. I went through and deleted the fur brush files and yet every one of my models is not loading the textures properly. Can anyone help??? I am currently unable to use substance painter.
Is this only for the Rex avatar?
It works for all avatars!
7 usd :(
