  • My first Bloodborne lore video and the most in-depth investigation I have done so far. This is part one of what I estimate to be something like a three part series.
PLEASE KEEP IN MIND THAT THERE IS MUCH MORE CAINHURST STUFF THAT I AM PLANNING ON COVERING, BUT CANNOT FIT IT ALL IN ONE VIDEO.

Yeah it’s actually pretty obvious and kinda turned me off from the rest of the video because this dude’s ‘research’ is prolly pretty shit. Ffs there’s still actual royalty (Britain’s for example) who still use the royal ‘we’.

    • @trevordillon1921
      @trevordillon1921 3 года назад +52

@@Elementroar most of us have knowledge that seems obvious to ourselves, likely a result of how long we have known or how uneventful gaining that knowledge was. But to many others, it is not only unknown but relatively difficult knowledge to come by without already knowing what to look for. For someone who knows it, it is clearly a royal we. But to anyone who does not, one would never even think that makes sense. You would hear someone say we, and you would make the logical conclusion that the English language guides you to, which is that they are referring to themselves and others. Think about it from the perspective of someone who does not know. How do you come across that knowledge? What in your research guides you there. It seems so simple in hindsight, but in reality, it’s not something anyone is likely to come across without the guidance or correction of someone else who happens to have that knowledge, as is the case here. In a later video this mistake is addressed. So, the maker of this video made one mistake. The mistake may seem obvious to you, as I’m sure it would to anyone in the know, but that is a rather unusual usage of the English language and one not commonly seen, especially if you consider the likelihood that the maker of this video does not have very much knowledge of that sort when it comes to monarchs. For instance, someone who lives in England or is familiar with the british monarchy would likely see this information as obvious, common knowledge. Someone from the US however, who doesn’t have much a care for the current monarchy of Britain, would not know this. It isn’t exactly a very important part of history, more so a linguistic oddity. So, in reference to the integrity of the research of this video: the “we” in particular is not overly important. Thus, this piece did not receive any significant study. Given the nature of the information, it would take a significant quantity of focus to discover without some decent degree of luck, an amount of focus ultimately impractical and unnecessary for the video. That attention was instead focused elsewhere, to information of more importance. To use that small mistake as an indication of poor research and to let it mar your experience to such a degree is only an indication of your own over criticism. The creator of the video is not some infallible being. He’s a dude doing the best he can to explain the lore in depth. He missed something small.

A Yharnamite had a blood transfusion. This is what happened to his brain.
YH, presenting to the emergency room unconscious. A blood test showed signs of hypertoxemia.
Hyper meaning high, tox meaning poison, and emia meaning presence in blood.
      High poison presence in blood.
YH's wife found him exhibiting unusual behavior after returning from business affairs in town.
This escalated shouting phrases like "It's all your fault!" and "Away, Away!" prior to him seizing and falling into unconsciousness.
The nurse quickly administered a sedative, resuscitating him long enough for him to admit having non-business related affairs with a woman in town who also offered him “blessed blood”.
After receiving the blood he felt good. Even somehow more wise. “Big blood, big brain” he thought.
But after a short time the positive effects wore off, resulting in madness and descension into beasthood.
After a treatment of clean blood and a scourge from his wife, YH eventually made A recovery.

Just a quick tip, "We" "Our" 9:36
Nobles and royals historically would often refer to themselves in plural; None of noble decent speaks only for themselves.
Seriously though, look up "majestic plural" / "royal we" if you want to read up on it.
Conversely "royal one" pronoun could be used when the speaker specifically wished referred to or speak for themselves, or by others to refer to their liege.
It's perhaps important to add that majestic plural is a well known concept in Japan also, see 朕 (chin).
There's also the more "plebeian" 我々 (wareware) that is perhaps more recognised but it's mostly seen in media. Likely more that I don't remember or know also.

Actually, Bloodborne seems to set in the latter 19th century as indicated by, among other things but specifically, the clothing. Much of it seems inspired by the real-world Victorian period which was the latter 19th C. There are of course exceptions such as the weapons and even Cainhurst itself which seems to take inspiration from the 12th to 15th C's. Perhaps this is another part of Bloodborne's lore. The stark contrast between Cainhurst and Yharnam shows that Cainhurst is a relic or something of the of the past. Perhaps stuck in the past whereas Yharnam is more advanced. Consider this: Cainhurst nobles imbibe blood versus Yharnamites injecting blood via vials or even undergoing transfusions. One is much more civilized.

I am absolutely STOKED that you mentioned Jonathan Harker/Dracula and their connection to vampires! I don't hear that theory nearly often enough, although it's a connection I've seen very clearly myself. The dark castle on a hill reached by a carriage ride, the drinking of blood (as opposed to transfusions), immortality, nobility, and bat-like enemies (along with the blood lickers, which remind me of mosquitos- another 'vampire-like' animal) are all connections to vampire stories. The wolves too- Count Dracula is implied in the book to have control over the wolves that live in the forest, and some vampire legends say they can also turn into wolves. Dracula can also turn into mist- though I don't know if that's connected to the numbing mist- I think that's more likely to be inspired by anesthetic gas (feeding into Bloodborne's motifs of medical procedures).

I believe the 'just use their power or become one of them heart and soul' refers to the fact that some people hate Cainhurst but still get the badge so they can get the armour and weapons of Cainhurst. So those people are 'just using their power'. The ones who become one of them heart and soul keep giving her Blood Dregs despite it giving nothing in return.

This is a fantastic lore video! Cainhurst is my favorite area in the game, so it's always fun to sit down and listen to some insight about it. In terms of the name, you can look more into the relation to Cain in further detail. For example, after the first murder in the biblical story, Cain was cursed. Not only was he physically marked, but he was also cursed with long life.
Because of this, instead of "Murder Hill," you could also think of the area as, "Cursed Hill," "Immortal Hill," or even other concepts that relate to the character. The fact that he's marked is interesting too because the servants that blow darts at you give you a physical mark. I know that this is related to Berserk, but a connection can also be clearly related to Cain. His long life or immortality can also be related to Annalise and her inability to die. I can't wait to see more from your channel!

I want an entire fucking prequel based on Cainhurst. It is almost more entertaining than the entire game. It is essentially a take on Brahm Stoker's Dracula and other amazing works within a game. Truly a game within a game!
When you wait for the carriage and are picked up just like in Dracula, and arrive at a Castle beyond time and space, I was awestruck at the way it was constructed. It is truly like an area that wasn't meant to exist within the game, but does.
EDIT: WOW, you addressed exactly what I was thinking above and even the connection to Cain (the so-called first vampire) exactly as I was thinking. Even the letter Dracula addressed to Jonathan Harker as 'D' was exactly the name as the in-game item. You did a great job.
Fun note: The numbing mist is actually an item that was originally from Vampire Hunter D, which is created from burning a magical candle. It stops times/space and makes a limited area within the mist turn to an artificial night. Used by vampires to escape hunters.

I would bet that Pthumerians were among Cainhurst's nobles because they were under Pthumerian rule, and declared independence afterward. The last rune that was mentioned and the connection to Queen Yharnam made me think of it.

Using "we" and "our" has nothing to do with someone being in the room with her. It is a VERY common way of referring to yourself among royalty, because a King or Queen is often considered to be speaking for the entire nation they rule. Therefore saying "we" is saying "me and my nation, who I speak for" in a way. So it's not strange at all, and I highly doubt the King is alive if that's what you were implying by it.

Absolutely wonderful! This is exactly what I wanted when it comes to Lore Hunts! You're already one of my favorite Bloodborne Lore Hunters and I wish to see this kind of Lore Hunt for most of the game even, if you would be interested in doing that. We NEED fresh views like this on these foul, pungent streets filled with nothing but vile beasts!
I love when you discuss the horseback references; really gets me thinking about Ludwig for some reason. Also good talk about the servants, as they are quite interesting just being there and so numerous in Cainhurst castle. I also really like that you discuss the etymology as it is definitely important.
Good point that Analise wants to *one day* bear a child of Blood, but let me point to an interesting item: in the guide book and in the earliest version of the game (prepatched i think, can't remember, but you can look it up if you wanna confirm) there's an alternate description on the Umbilical Cord in the Abandoned Old Workshop, suggesting Eldrich things about the Vilebloods, and puts emphasis on that the Child of Blood Analise one day wants to bear, is the *next* Vileblood heir. But that's very, very speculatory on my part, I just got exited xD
The immortality part I want to hear more of, because there is something special about Ghosts in Bloodborne, in Chalice dungeons and Cainhurst, they share similar properties while being distinct.
Either way, LOVE THIS VIDEO AND WANT MORE!!!!

A very interesting and well researched video. Definitely brought up quite a few things I hadn't thought of. A few things i find myself questioning though; First is the dates. Alfred tells us that a Scholar from Byrgenwerth brought "forbidden blood" to Cainhurst (likely around the same time Laurence split off to form the Healing Church) , and it was there that the first inhuman Vilebloods were born. So basically Cainhurst predates the Healing Church but the Vilebloods don't.
Second, the gargoyles. Excellent catch with the children of Antiquity! Though I suspect that they're likely results of of Vileblood experimentation; a Cainhurst version of Yharnum's Trolls perhaps? Or perhaps gargoyles existed in the age of the Pthumerians and the Vilebloods managed to recreate them (that they are in some of the Chalice dungeons leads some credence here)?
As for the Pthumerians, another interesting suggestion. Of course it could just as easily be that the Scholar that stole the forbidden blood also stole other research materials (in fact highly likely in my book) and passed them onto the nobles. I hope I didn't offend with the long comment and disagreeing with you; again really cool video and will definitely watch your other bloodborne stuff.

At first I thought it was bizarre that Annalise thought consuming blood would allow her to conceive a child. Then I remembered that blood is Oedon's medium. I believe that Annalise consumes blood, in particular the blood of hunters who also consume blood, as an act of worship to Oedon and hopes that Oedon will reward her with a child.

Amazing, looking forward to seeing more. Forgive me if you clarify all this in later videos:
13:48 I agree that the healing church sought out the Vilebloods in the name of preservation. I think that the opposition came from the blood of Cainhurst itself. The “forsaken blood” as it is called. Possibly the Cainhurst blood was stronger? Annalise is immortal. I see the conflict as sort of an arms race that the Vilebloods lost. Something about the blood of Cainhurst undermined the Healing Church, and threatened their legitimacy. Basically, the Vilebloods could have potentially put the Healing Church out of business.
19:03 If the Vilebloods were in contact with the Pthumerians before Byrgenwerth then Alfred’s dialogue regarding “a Byrgenwerth scholar who betrayed his fellows…” is propaganda that the Healing Church imposed not only upon the Executioners, but potentially the entire populace. Which would seem very plausible considering the Healing Church is clearly a selfish institution built upon a sinister disregard for humanity. Despite the Ashen Blood that afflicted Loran and Old Yharnam, they clearly continued their practices in spite of the horror inflicted upon those aforementioned communities.

Well! It's great to see a new voice among Bloodborne lore hunters!
You also raise some new and interesting points, as well as connecting to some previously-trod ground (as you note, you haven't yet watched Aegon or Jerks_Sans_Frontieres' videos, so of course you wouldn't be aware that the ground was previously-trod, though the fact that other people reached similar conclusions independently, such as the connection between Cainhurst nobility being descended from the Pthumerians, lends some weight).
First, I'm going to immediately cheer the fact that you referred to the aesthetic of Yharnam as "17th-18th century" instead of immediately calling it Victorian. While the Gatling guns used by Djura and his DLC disciple speak to a post-1860s period of time, nothing else in the game looks to such a late period--no widespread use of electricity, no firearm designs, etc., while the clothing seems to run from roughly the timeframe of the American Revolution through the Regency.
Secondly, while nearly everyone spots the vampire aesthetic for Cainhurst and how it's taking inspiration from Dracula and similar sources, I'd never before heard someone flatly suggest that the Cainhurst nobility were literal vampires in a non-"Partaking of the Old Blood" sense that the common Yharnamites swilling their Blood Cocktails were not (or perhaps that vampiric "strain" spread into the populace in some sort of diluted form?). For example, that's the only reason that I just realized, after all these months, that the Lost Children of Antiquity are basically modeled on Dracula's "bat" form from the Francis Ford Coppola movie "Bram Stoker's Dracula."
I'd never before heard the term "Indentured Chevalier" to refer to the Servants of Cain, though a quick Google search shows them turning up as alternate page titles on various wikis. Did you take that name from those wikis, or is there an independent, official source for that name? (Regardless of which, it ties directly to the item description of the Knight Set which suggests that "knight," i.e. "chevalier," is a term almost mockingly bestowed on Cainhurst servants doing the work of beast-hunting, and thus makes the "indentured" part of their name...and the fact that you find them cleaning floors and windows when not stalking you...remarkably cogent.)
Also, honestly, I'd never heard that the Cainhurst servants speak, either in my own playthroughs or in anyone's discussion or MoonlightButterfly's strikingly complete dialogue collections. Where did you find them? The lines you cite are quite notable, and as you point out, directly tie to other Cainhurst matters, especially "Blood Rapture."
The possible link to Caryll is also interesting. Since we know that a scholar of Byrgenwerth brought Old Blood back to Cainhurst (per Alfred's dialogue), there's a possibility that this scholar could have been Caryll--else, why would he/she have transcribed the Corruption Rune that is the mark of the Vileblood oath? And we know it was Caryll personally--there are a number of Runes simply referred to as "Caryll Runes" in the generic sense. (for example, Guidance, which we also learn was discovered by Ludwig, illustrating the point that there is a difference between "Caryll Runes" and "Caryll Runes actually transcribed by Caryll.")
I'm very much looking forward to the next installments, and I do hope that your initial investigations inspire you to dig deeper into the lore of other topics, particularly while we're waiting for Dark Souls III's first DLC to come out.

      Thanks for your feedback!
I honestly thought it would be best to analyse the information independently first, and then enjoy the theories of others later. It's just too easy to start depending on the words of others and can be a little bit intellectually dangerous.
I cover the Knight's set in a lot of detail next episode, so look forward to that. I did get it from the wiki, although a friend of mine who is more well versed in Bloodborne lore referenced the enemy as "Indentured Chevalier" as well.
This being said, I must say that I wish there was a more official source for this as well. It appears to be such a peculiar name for an enemy, however, a name that nobody would come up on the spot with.
I don't know if I explicated this in the video but I was referring to the Cainhurst Hunters that spawn in the Chalice Dungeons in relation to the dialogue. Here's a link to some info with screenshots proving that they do in-fact, exist down there: bloodborne.wiki.fextralife.com/Cainhurst+Hunter
I would love to find out more about Caryll and a connection to Cainhurst. As much as I would have liked to just say "This guy right here is responsible for giving Oedon's blood to Cainhurst!" it just seemed like too much of a jump in terms of logic.
I can't wait to record the next episode, honestly. I have a very close look at Arianna, who has no doubt been covered before but I definitely had fun with the research regarding her. Stay tuned and thanks again!

First off, thank you for taking the time to make this video, I love your fresh perspective... the Vilebloods are probably the most intriguing group in Bloodborne, perhaps because they're the most mysterious and the least touched upon subject (and there has been cut content from their story). first - I think the Vilebloods are pthumarian descendents, they have pale skin, white hair, and are extra tall- as the pthumarians all have these same characteristics... there are other things pointing to the idea as well but I don't have a list... also, the pthumarians where said to have split into two factions, one stayed in the labyrinth, the other above ground (I cannot for the life of me remember where it's said) but this would explain, if logarius was pthumarian, why he hated and wanted to wipe out the Vilebloods. I could go on and on but I'd rather have more source material to better explain.

So I just wanna mention that when Annalise says “we” and “our” I’m pretty sure it’s in the old “Royal we” fashion. Nobles used to refer to themselves in plural form. It’s got something to do with divine right I believe but I’d have to double check on that. The pope still does this I believe as well.

Yea, i know, i might be late to comment on bloodborne lore but i gotta say this:
There is SO MUCH more to explore and find out about the lore of bloodborne (and souls in general) once you step away from silver mont, davecontrol and vaati. Their videos are not bad, but they only point out what the community figured out without putting much thought into it or doing research.
Vaati is especially guilty for this, he even once said in a dark souls 2 video that he won't dive into dark souls 2 videos before the community figured the lore out.Recording some cool camera angles with the cheat engine and reading reddit threads seems to be the key of success here...
But then there are the smaller channels, hidden gems (at least when the video first released in 2016), that dive knee deep into those topics the "big" channels did not cover, with their own thoughts and speculations. And they are so much more entertaining than the overproduced narration of what everybody already knows anyway.
TL;DR: Thanks for the great videos mitch. Rewatching them now after almost two years makes me fall in love with bloodborne all over again ;)

You know in an old belief its said that blood is a separate but equal entity that lives in a symbiotic relationship and as a vital part in our body and that the blood itself has its own soul aside from the one every person and living thing has. So the way I see blood dregs is almost like soul dregs in Dark Souls as possibly being the soul of that person/hunter’s blood.

I'm a bit late to watching all this... But I'm gonna watch it all tonight! Could you do a lore video on (or at least maybe answer my questions about) what the Hunt is? The Sullied Bandage says "A faint memory recalls blood ministration" and then "Not long after, the nightmare began" which makes me wonder if the whole nightmare is a dream. If so what would be the point, and what would the real Yharnam be like? And how often is the Hunt if everyone is a beast now? Is this the only hunt? Have there been others leading up to this one? Is it nightly? Monthly? And what's the world outside of Yharnam like? I'm really curious about if everything is a dream though, as we wake up to the Sunrise depending on our ending. But what happens after the sunrise? What's the point of being in Yharnam if everyone's a beast or dead? What's the point of everything being a dream if we wake up to Yharnam? What is or isn't real? I'm aware Nightmares and Dreams are just different levels of the real world, but what's the difference between the real world and the Yharnam we explore? Or is the term nightmare just what it says, a really fucked up experience where every second our character gets drenched in the blood of foul beasts? It feels open ended too much and aggrivates me. I know these are a lot of questions but I just need to get this out even if you don't respond. Keep up the good work as usual, I look forward to more in depth Bloodborne lore from you when you have time to make videos, Mitch.

What do you think of the Burgenwerth scholar that apparently betrayed the school and brought "forbidden blood" back to Cainhurst castle(from Alfred's dialogue). Is Alfred just mistaken?
    My interpretation of the timeline.
Cainhurst ruled over the area of Hemwick and perhaps also Yharnam. Burgenwerth situated in the same area found Pthumerian ruins under Yharnam.
1-10 years passes of exploration and research. A scholar that most likely came from Cainhurst, as it's located very closely, brought back "forbidden" blood (which might just be the blood the healing church uses themselves) to Cainhurst castle. The royal family becomes very interested and begins their own research and exploration of the dungeon(reason for their armor in the chalice dungeons).
1-10 years passes. They succeed in using blood to strengthen themselves and learn of Queen Yharnam's child of blood, which fascinates Annalise. Maria is born in this period of time. They also develop blood-weapons.
14-18 years passes as the very talented Maria is trained and brought up by Cainhurst to be a strong knight. She develops resentment for their practices and thus carries a weapon that uses skill and not blood. Because of her resentment of Cainhurst she leaves for Burgenwerth to become a scholar to satiate her "wild curiosity" . There she meets German and is further trained. She helps researching and exploring the ruins. Gerhman becomes infatuated with Maria.
1-5 years later news of a great one having washed ashore near an old fishing hamlet arrives at Burgenwerth. Gehrman and Maria, probably accompanied by many other skilled Burgenwerth scholars, most likely including Laurence, travels to the fishing hamlet, finds transformed humans and massacres the place. Maria, not able to stomach it, throws her weapon away. They find the Orphan of Kos. All of the raiders, Gehrman and Maria included, are cursed, which causes them to have nightmares. They further researches the old blood and the great ones. Rom is most likely created from a newborn around this time.
1-5 years later. A split in the school occurs. Laurence backed by at least Gehrman, Maria and Micolash leaves the school to help other people using the old blood. Maria begins her research in the Astral Clocktower.
1-2 years later. Lorance and his healing church becomes wildly succesful using the old blood to cure any decease. However the beast scourge starts plaguing Yharnam. Gehrman starts the hunter workshop and secretly eliminates the beasts before it comes into eyes of the public.
3-5 years passes. Maria's research fails completely. She experiences how all of her research subjects "Only an honest death will cure you now. Liberate you from your wild curiosity." - Maria. She kills herself in order to not cause further suffering. Gehrman is ruined. She's brought into the Nightmare.
1-10 years passes. Gehrman becomes increasingly devastated and eventually closes down the hunters workshop. In his isolation he crafts the doll. Laurence experiences troubles with keeping beast scourge at bay. He takes the umbilical cord from the Orphan of Kos to Gehrmans workshop. Here they beckon the Moon Presence.
    To lazy to write more.

    • @mitchl6896
      @mitchl6896  8 лет назад +11

I'll make a reply to this in dot points.
-Alfred is an unreliable narrator. He has not actually been to Cainhurst castle himself before you give him the Unoperned summons. This will be explained in full in upcoming videos.
-The scholar who brought the blood back is also something I'll touch on soon. I have broken the possibilities down to a small list. It could have been Maria, Iosefska, or even Caryll. The most important word is brought "back" implying that the scholar's home was Cainhurst.
-I touched on this in this video, but I believe Cainhurst to be the oldest institution in all of Yharnam, except for the Pthumerians. This will also be covered.
-Remember that the armour found in the Chalice dungeons is proper knight armour, very antiquated. I believe those suits have been down there for hundreds of years. If we look at the loot rooms in the Chalice dungeons, they are adorned with treasures from the ancient world. The Chalice dungeons have become traps for people for a very, very long time.
-I definitely agree with you about Maria being trained as a knight. I extrapolate on this in the next video. I believe that Maria's disdain of blood weaponry came from her watching the royal family becoming more and more dependent on blood, and this was seen as a weakness by her. She most likely left before the Executioner's raid, wishing for a new path in life in Yharnam. It's also a possibility that she could have told the Healing Church how to get to Cainhurst, but this knowledge has been lost over time.
-I agree with all your points about Kos.
-I would also add Iosefska and possibly Caryll to the list of those who have joined with Laurence.
-Gehrman forming the hunters is correct. Another thing that will come up in the next vid is that Gehrman and the Black Church got the idea of killing beasts in their early form from Cainhurst methods, a very interesting point of lore.
-Yep, I agree with the stuff about Maria failing. I will also compare the act of her killing herself not having a permanent affect in the same way that Annalise is immortal in the next video.
-Last point sounds close enough to me. I won't be going into that sequence of events for this series as most of what I will talk about will take place in Cainhurst, but I like your summary. Thank you for your feedback!
P.S. Gehrman totally busted his nut in the doll

    • @kasp7674
      @kasp7674 8 лет назад +7

"It could have been Maria, Iosefska, or even Caryll"
I really don't think it's Maria, that would be so strange. I honestly just think it was a random dude. Burgenwerth is so close to Cainhurst Castle, that it wouldn't surprise me if a large percentage of Burgenworth consisted of nobles from Cainhurst.
"Cainhurst to be the oldest institution in all of Yharnam"
Me too. But i don't they knew of blood before the scholar from Burgenwerth.
"Remember that the armour found in the Chalice dungeons is proper knight armour, very antiquated"
Definitely. Its very old. An very interesting comment from a one of JSF pointed out the number of graves in the Hunters Dream. Apparently there are about 300 graves. If we say that at every full moon a hunter is brought to the dream and then gets killed by Gerhman after they succeed, that would result in Gehrman having lived in the dream for 140 years. Wouldn't that timeline not also fit with the armors form Cainhurst. They are around 140-160 years old.
"She most likely left before the Executioner's raid, wishing for a new path in life in Yharnam"
She died long before the Executioner's raid.
She died before Gerhman stopping the hunter workshop. The healing church workshop started a bit after that. Executioners came somewhat after, and it first until then that the Executioners attacked Cainhurst.
      Agree with the rest.

    • @kasp7674
      @kasp7674 8 лет назад +5

Mitch L The thing I said about the graves and the full moon is objectively wrong, sorry about that. There are around 360 graves total in the hunters dream. If a paleblood hunter is made every full moon, then it would only be around 15 years, not 140 years.
How long do you think Gehrman has been in the dream? Especially when we consider Micolash still being alive.
Another thing that kinda fucks with the timeline is the grand cathedrals. Those things can take a hundred years to complete. Even if we say that the healing church was very succesful financially in its beginning stages and had more than enough funds for construction and uses blood powers to increase construction speed, at the very least it would still take 10 years to complete the astral clock tower. Meaning after the split in Byrgenwerth, it probably took 1-5 years before the healing church had secured enough funds to start making grand buildings. Then at least 10 years for the construction. It was first then the healing church and Maria could start their research for real in the Research Hall. If we say that Maria spend 1-3 years on the research before committing suicide, she would at least be 18(my estimation of her age at the Byrgenwerth split)+1+10+1= 30 years old, by the time she died. And at most 22+5+20(this number could easily be much higher=+3 = 50 years old.
But she looks 20-25 years old when we fight her.
Is it the nightmare that makes her look young?
Does Cainhurst people live for a very long time, like Annalise? Or is it just blood that increases the lifespan of people?
Or was the cathedrals already constructed before the healing church got into power. Perhaps by infiltrating an already existing religion in Yharnam.
Or did From not take construction time into consideration? They does have some problems with time. If we look at Old Yharnam we see crucified beasts still burning. But if that was the case, then Old Yharnam was burned to the ground before yesterday. Such crucifixions would at most last 5 hours.

Drawek I think we can say with some certainty that Gehrman has been in the dream for longer than he can possibly remember. I noticed something on a new playthrough today. When you speak to him for the first time, he actually struggles to remember his name upon introducing himself.
He says something like "I am ... (long pause)... Gehrman..."
As much as I would like to, it seems almost impossible to quantify amounts of time that has passed in Soulsbourne games. The only mention of time that I can remember is from Dark Souls I, when Quelana says it's been "200 years" since she last spoke with Salaman. I'm fairly sure that was the context of the dialogue.
Maria is Cainhurst-born, that much is known. Despite her eventual hatred for blood-weaponry, I believe that the strength of blood still runs within her, whether she likes it or not. This is evidenced by what we see during the second phase of her fight. Furthermore, there is a bloodied cup on the table next to her undisturbed body in the Astral Clocktower. Not to say that she was sipping blood like her relatives most likely had done for centuries past, but still interesting none-the-less.

Mitch L Cainhurst people might have become so vampiristic that they need blood to stay alive?
"The only mention of time that I can remember is from Dark Souls I, when Quelana says it's been "200 years"
I'm fairly sure that there was also a mention about something like "trying to breach sens fortress for a hundred years and failed".
And we can always estimate time, by looking at the few known dates, peoples' age, change in architecture, order of events and then try to piece things together.
" he actually struggles to remember his name upon introducing himself."
Cool observation. I think you might start to forget your name, if you have spend 15 years in relative isolation.
He also comment that he's "grown too old for this" when mumbling about Laurence. Which kinda implies that he actually ages inside of the dream. And that Laurence might actually still have been alive age-wise.
Honestly I'm beginning to think that after the split in Byrgenwerth happened, only around 25-40 years have passed.
But this speculation is of course only valid if the blood doesn't increase their lifespan by a lot, like we see with the phtumerians and Annalise.

quick correction, tho the napolion's legion connection is valid, at the time most of English nobility spoke French (correct me if Im wrong but I belive it was right before the time of the first crusade) and chevalier, refered at the time to some on riding a cheval or horse, and this was apply'd pretty much to everyone in horseback, but since such things where only the realm of the wealthy, a soldier on horseback or chevalier that served a lord would have the title of Knot, and in time this term evolved into the word Knight

French came with the Norman Conquest of 1066, Hastings, and developed into its own dialect of Anglo-Norman. It only lasted up to about 1300, when royal/aristocratic speeches started to appear in English, so English became the official language too shortly, and commoners spoke English to begin with all this while. That French basically died out completely. I agree that Napoleon is a far stretch, since he's from a soo much more modern peroid than those that inspired Cainhurst. I'm not too familiar with pre-1300 word usage, Chaucer and the Sir Gawain writer are already comfortable with "knyȝt" and "knyght". Do you know where you took "Knot" from perhaps? I absolutely can't find anything related to this.

Awesome video. You really added a lot of great stuff to what we know(or not know) about Cainhurst. One of the things I wondered about is that besides Annalise and servants and maids the entire Cainhurst family seems to have vanished without a trace. Perhaps they knew Logarius and his gang of cutthroats were coming and fled the castle in time. If Arianna really is a Vileblood perhaps she went 'undercover' as a lady of pleasure in Yharnam. It would also make sense the Vilebloods are either Phtumerians or closely related to them considering Oedon impregnated Arianna during the red moon event. Indeed the Healing Church would see the Vilebloods as a threat considering they already had Queen Yharnam(another, 'real' Phtumerian) giving birth to Mergo. More than anything the feud between the Healing Church and the Vilebloods seemed to be over the heritage of the Great Ones. With the Vilebloods being 'corrupted' Phtumerians despised by the Church.
Anyways keep up the great work and looking forward to your next vid!

I know this is a bit of a stretch, and that Bloodborne doesn't late to it at all, but in the World of Darkness Universe, specially the world of Vampire: The masquerade, it is stated that when Cain was cursed by God, that he became the first Vampire. The older Vampires tend to refer to themselves as "Cainanites". Dunno if From was inspired by Vampire: The Masquerade, but I found thought it was funny.

I think you meant to say “17-18 hundreds”, as in 18th-19th centuries, not “17th-18th centuries “, as in 16-17 hundreds. Bloodborne’s feel is definitely pre-very early Victorian era, proto industrial revolution aesthetic. I know, it’s nit-picking, & confusing, but still good video 👍

I’m late for this, but depending on his native language, he might well have meant what in English is the 19th century. In some languages, Swedish for example, this weird convention of saying 19. for the 1800s is just not a thing. Or it’s just a mistake lol, then nvm

      @@Fuchswinter It's not a "weird convention" it's just mathematically true, 1-99 AD wasn't the 0th century.

I love the part where you bring in the Egyptians and the Aztecs, amazing stuff! I love when people look deep into the designs of the runes, it's really neat
Also, I have some contributions of my own:
    1) Annalise says "We" instead of "I" because she is royalty. It's a custom of English monarchs to use what is known as the royal We, which is to say they use inclusive personal pronouns for themselves. It could be that she thinks her husband is still with her, but the capital W makes me think it's the royal we.
    2) I feel that the reason the ghosts live on in Cainhurst is the same reason as Yharnam: far from being ghosts, they are in fact the consciousness of one particular person: perhaps a previous Queen?
We know that there WAS once a child of blood from Cainhurst, much like Yharnam's (see the patched-out description of the Abandoned Workshop's Third Cord). The previous Queen (before Annalise) is, I propose, the true identity of the "ghosts" who, like Yharnam, are merely the projection of an individual's consciousness. It would follow that the previous Queen who bore this child has the same transient existence as Yharnam does: unable to die while occupying many places at once.
    3) Are you going to read out comments you like at the end of episodes? Aegon of Astora did that and it was a great way of making the community come to life around his videos. Now that his series is over, it'd be great of you filled the void he left :D

    • @mitchl6896
      @mitchl6896  8 лет назад +2

Thank you for the bit about the Royal We. A few people have mentioned it and I can't believe I missed that.
That's interesting about the Third Cord, but if it was patched out, can we still regard it as canon? The Umbilical Cord will be discussed in the next video, so it'll be cool to hear your take on it.
That's actually a really good idea about the comments. I think I will start doing that! Especially comments that contain insights that I did not come up with during my investigation. Thanks for your support!

Perhaps the blood on the letter is a means of "signing" it. As for when presented to gain entry to a guard or anyone that represents cainhurst could smell the difference and tell that it's a forgery. 🤔🤔

I wonder what great one do the people of Cainhurst most likely have to attribute their unique appearances/ mutations to?
I have noticed that certain groups of enemies in Bloodborne seem to be mutated in unique fashions according to whatever great one who’s blood was used/ tampered with. The people of the Hamlet are changed via their link to Kos. The Healing church I think is most likely based off of their work using the blood of Ebrietas. Their early work in trying to evolve humanity using her blood resulted in the living failures, celestial minions/ emissaries, rom, and other such kin.
I think the choir/ Laurence used a different blood when making the blood for their blood healing ministrations, likely something found in the chalice dungeons of Loran. I say this because of the beastly lycanthrope theme that those who take ministered blood share.
So for the line of Cainhurst, I wonder what great one led to the unique transformations of their blood addled denizens. Prior to the DLC, the only other place I feel for sure had the bloodsucking beasts that plague the outside grounds of the castle are found in the Pthumerian dungeons. So, if the people of Cainhurst are as closely related to the Phtumerians as we are led to believe, perhaps they follow or are under the watch of the same great one as their ancestors.
Personally, I feel that it is Odeon’s blood that is responsible for their transformations. I say this because I feel that Odeon’s interest in impregnating Arianna has more to do with her Cainhurst origins than anything else. Of course, this doesn’t explain why Iosefka’s imposter was similarly ‘ blessed’ by the formless god, and it begs the question how one can even gain access to a formless god’s blood, but maybe that’s where the numbing mist comes from.

The vilebloods were given birth after the theft of an old blood strain from birgenwerth, so they're at least as old as the healing church but not older than byrgenwerth itself, no doubts on this since it's confirmed by alfred's dialogue
