    Loran is my favorite area. Love the color scheme and the desigin of the dungeons, with the massive ravines with Demon's Souls lighting and huge wooden creaky bridges.

    Now that I think of it, if we ever get a Bloodborne 2. A new area for the game should be Loran. It would be interesting to see a desert area in bloodborne considering that all we see is villages, school, dreams and forest. Why not a little sand in our boots. :D

      @MrGohan11599 6 лет назад +11

      It sounds really cool, if it was set in the past, but the land of loran was sucked in by the sand, so you would just be standing in a big pit of sand ;^)

      I don't like the past idea only because it limits what the story can be. Same with like having a vileblood crusade DLC or something like that. I think the night of a new hunt (where the previous hunter serves as either the new Gehrman or the newly reborn great one) is controlling the dream but, like you said, in a new setting. That would allow them to expand on the lore and maybe even do a trilogy of rituals similar to how they did the linking of the flame.

      What I would like to see is a lot more lore about the different chalice dungeons,(in detail -differences and similarities)
      HOW earlier civilizations functioned, their audiences with great ones, more about WHERE and HOW the superhuman race came to be, and their(possibly) natural connection to the kin and cosmos.
      A LOT og archicetcture in the chalice dungeons have symbols, pictures, runes and other noticeable carvings.
      I mean, constructing an underground system of such magnitude requires expertise within the fields of mathematics, physics etc..
      One prominent is the hunter rune.
      Why would the ancient superhuman dwellers have any significant connection to the hunter symbol..? :)

    I always wondered if perhaps the way the Scourge affects people is based on what illness they had prior to their becoming infected by the tainted Old Blood. For evidence I looked at both the forms people took once infected.
    Judging by both the Loran Silverbeast enemy (and the way that the Parasites erupt from them upon their death) it would seem that Loran was set by a parasitic plague which drove them to seek the Old Blood as a cure when all other means failed. This is just speculation on my part since we are never told outright what made Loran "ailing" in the first place, so it could mean that Loran suffered from a plague prior to the Beast Scourge as I speculate, or perhaps the "ailing" simply referred to the Beast Scourge itself. The Loran Darkbeasts in the Chalice Dungeons also make me think that perhaps this possible parasitic infection affected the *bones* rather than the flesh and blood. I say this because both the Darkbeasts themselves and the Beast Claw weapon make it explicit that whatever affects the Dark Beasts is inherent in their bones rather than their blood or flesh. However, I have no idea where the Darkbeast connection to electricity comes from.
    I also take the Beast Patients and the Blood Starved Beast of Old Yharnam as evidence of this, as we are specifically told that Old Yharnam was suffering from a mass outbreak of the Ashen Blood prior to its destruction, leading the Healing Church to do mass administrations of the tainted Old Blood to both treat the illness and further experiment with the Blood. Both the Female Beast Patients and the Blood Starved Beast (which specifically bleeds the stuff) inflict slow poison, which I extrapolated as being a result of their being diseased with the Ashen Blood prior to their transformation into beasts. This perhaps indicates that while the Old Blood may treat the symptoms of illness it may not *cure* illness outright, instead affecting it the same way it affects those infected by the Beast Scourge.

    • @mitchl6896
      @mitchl6896  7 лет назад +17

      Vlakvark A fascinating thought! You could apply this logic to the Scourge Beasts perhaps as people who were healed for contracting rabies or something similar.

    6:42 I agree with you on your idea that the people of Cainhurst castle are descendants of the Pthumerians based on two things. First is the clothing. When you look at the Pthumerian elder, you see that his clothing seems fitting that of a noble person and look very similar to that of the Cainhurst knight, especially with the red color. The second point would be in their share of great physical abilities and powers. At a point during Maria's boss fight, she stabs herself through the chest with her two swords, allowing her to create blood based attacks. She also arbours incredible physical abilities, being able to create devastating attacks. There are other characters who share the same traits: the Pthumerians, especially queen Yahrnam. Perhaps it is all actually the result of experimenting on the blood brought back from the tombs, I still believe, based on these two points, that the Cainhurst people are descendants of the Pthumerians, or at least have Pthumerian parentage.

    About the bastard of Loran being born outside of wedlock, just a quick tidbit. Ring of Bethrotal states: "In the age of the Great Ones, wedlock was a blood contract, only permitted to those slated to bear a special child". Perhaps marriage was in fact an institution reserved only for some caste of "chosen ones", and most of the children born in Loran were indeed considered bastards. This might also mean, that any child that wasn't "special", or a child of a Great One, was a "bastard". Therefore, "Bastard of Loran" might possibly be any normal human child that died due to sickness.

    I always thought Ihyll was the tittle of the Pthumerian leader not the name of a particular leader. The item description says "the title of both the Pthumerian monarch and its capital". In fact, Ihyll might mean a capital city and not the name of a city per say if we take a literal reading of the description.

    • @mitchl6896
      @mitchl6896  8 лет назад +14

      I see what you mean. Ihyll could also just be the "title" in the same way that "king" is a title. For example, "Ihyll Yharnam," but that's just speculation.

    I think the Pthumerians were based off and obscure race known as the K’yan from HP lovecraft’s “The Mound.” In that story the K’nyan were a race of highly advanced aliens that resembled super tall humans, much like the Pthumerians. But unlike the Pthumerians, they weren’t pale and resembled Native Americans (funnily enough the actual Native Americans warred against this species), but much like the Pthumerians the K’nyan worshipped alien gods like Cthulhu. Blood borne is a huge love letter to lovecraft, Miyazaki and his crew dug into some obscure stories, the mound is not even as popular as Lovecraft’s other work.

    thak you so much for bringing topic on the chalices, they're so underrated, personally i love them there are so many new bosses, a lot of enemies so weird like the ghost laughing, the pthumerian creepy long hair, and i hope you know him but there's a really weir pthumerian just walks around praying and criying it never attacks you even if you hit him but he attacks on wolfes and only wolfes with a wave kinda like wrath of the gods, he shines when you are far but if you get close stops walking and the light that comes out from his body fade . those pthumerian witches with skull on their hand, they stand up and are really tall and i mean really tall only when they can't see you, you have to drink a blue elixir just to see that animation or play a chalice with the three curses.
    I don't know to me the chalices add so much extra play like a real challenge with the three curses, but it's just me i guess thank you anyway for you're work on bloodborne please keep up

  • @KitsuneShapeShifter
    @KitsuneShapeShifter 8 лет назад +3

    Oh my goodness! These get better and better
    first about the Curse being indicative of what ailed them is brilliant, because people walking around feeling themselves at ''half-health'' would be quite worrysome for a civilization.
    The way you draw from the Chalice description feels so natural and appropriate to the topics you mention
    I've been observing Pthumerian physiology quite a bit too, I can't wait to hear what you have to say about it.
    The naked Watchers show they all have like a ''Bloodplug'' in their bellybutton, like they had been stuffed with blood!
    Also, what about the forbidden blood and ghosts? It seems ghosts exist cuz of that vile blood.
    I love most of all that you mentioned ''younger'' and ''older'' Pthumerians as they are superhuman and ''immortal'' enough to live to see their descendants, while they younger generation has new ideas.
    Also, humble guardians does not mean lack of sentience I think, but rather surrender to a higher power that simply want to enjoy the blood the Great Ones offer, until they felt they could take it for themselves
    The Watchers have never seen as much love as you gave them here; thanks =D That they are out of Blood or parts is great! Makes alotta sense as aditional rites ''invigorates'' them
    I cannot wait to see your take on the Eldrich Truth! Keep up the good work and thanks again for a brilliant video!!!!

    This is probably a bit of a stretch but I'll put it out here anyways, see what people think. First of all I'll just say I'm new to your channel and this is only the second video I've seen but I'm looking forward to watching the rest of your bloodborne videos. I watched this video and then I had a look through the comments and someone said something like it would be cool if they made a desist level in bloodborne 2 to represent Loran. After watching this I got on bloodborne and helped someone kill Amygdala. And that got me thinking maybe nightmare frontier is Loran? I know this might be a bit of a stretch, but I don't think it's completely without merit. We know worlds can live inside dreams, for example the dlc, it's the only place where there are Loran Silverbeast's and you could argue it had been consumed by sand. I don't know if you covered this possibility in other videos but I just thought I'd put it out there. If people find the time I'd really like to hear what you think and your ideas.

  • @stroopwafel3612
    @stroopwafel3612 8 лет назад +2

    Awesome video as always! Concise and to the point. I always wondered how Loran related to Yharnam. I think maybe it shared a similar history and the way Loran became a desert was simply Loran being encroached by the Nightmare Frontier? The Hunter's Nightmare in the DLC also looks very 'sand like' and Yharnam is definitely being enveloped by the Nightmare. I think Loran simply had the same thing happen to them. Even if it's unlikely we get a sequel to Bloodborne, Loran would probably be a really good setting. Different histories ultimately leading to the same fate.
    The tall church/bell guards definitely look related to the Phtumerians and maybe the Healing Church used some kind of breeding method to multiply them and found a way to make them docile. After all they looted the Phtumerian Labyrinth and were pretty advanced with their research into the old blood. Though, there isn't really anything in the game to back that up, so that could very well be fan fiction. :p Still, the fact you find what looks like discarded church guards in the caves near Iosefka's Clinic definitely hints that they were either recruited or thrown away by the Healing Church.

    So this may not be important but I'm just going to ramble on random stuff regarding the topic.
    Loran, a land similar to Yharnam, but fell down the path of the beast.
    Like you said Curses are punishments sent out by the Great Ones. Could it be that the Ashen Blood or even the Beastly Scourge as a whole is a curse brought about by a Great One? Moon Presence perhaps? If so was it also Moon Presence who caused the downfall of Loran?
    Loran is full of odd beasts. The Loran Silver Beast in particular is, well... very twisted. Loran Dark Beast is nothing but a skeleton, but still lives. What gave these beasts power over electricity? Even the Abhorrent Beast, a younger version of the Dark Beast, seems to have power over wind. What makes a Dark Beast special? Archibald and Izzy both tried to unravel their secrets, but we were never told if they found any.
    If their was a queen Yharnam, and a queen Ihyll, could there have been a queen Loran?
    Beast Possessed Soul has the odd ability of manipulating fire, and some extent blood. Could it be a Pthumerian who turned into a beast or perhaps a Cainhurst Knight?

    • @mitchl6896

Thanks for putting your thoughts out there!

    Thank you Mitch! You're the only other person who addresses the Chapel Giants as Pthumerians! I'm writing my own little fan piece of Bloodborne, so I got the complete game and companion works for source material, and I've noticed something about the Body Proportion of the Pthumerians: Pthumerians, and the Cainhurst Yharnhamites are Six Heads tall, while the labyrinth watchers summoned by the bell ringer are Eight Heads tall and lack genitals or hair (maybe From didn't want it to get too graphic for X-Rated reasons), resembling Vitruvian Homunculii. Even the Watcher Chieftain under all that fat is eight heads tall like the Vitruvian Man, and also is bald and lacks any sexual characteristics. Depending on how you treat the Subject of the Cosmos (I believe it's an amalgamation of physical plane AND realm of the Afterlife), I reckon The Bell Ringers pull the spirits of long deceased Pthumerians back into the realm of the living, and no longer having any memory or indication of their identities of their past lives, the Watchers assume the form of perfect Vitruvian Homunculii. The Watchers no longer have any nakedness to hide so they go galavanting about without clothes or armor (hoods or gravedigger uniforms seem to be the exception). If they die, the ringers simply resurrect them again. Even the Giants have this difference in body proportions: despite being so stretched and emaciated, Church Giants are still six heads tall, while the Undead Giant seems to be at least seven heads tall, since it's hunched over (it won't be a stretch of the imagination to say it's a Vitruvian Homunculus also). What's your take on this? I really would like to know since you're taking the lore bit seriously and I'm always trying to expand my source material. I also don't have a Facebook/Twitter account so this is the best I can do to provide my input...

    • @mitchl6896
      @mitchl6896  8 лет назад

      Wow! I hadn't even considered all of that. I did notice that most of the Pthumerians or Pthumerian-like beings lack any sort of genitalia, and I think that's important. If Fromsoft wanted to give them a loincloth or whatever, they could have done that. Maybe they want us to understand that Pthumerians cannot reproduce like humans do? Since the Watchers are said to be "born in the depths" is does make me think that there is SOMETHING giving birth to all of these things. I have my own theories about how some of the enemy types actually appear in the dungeons, but that will be for next week, I think. What's the significance of the Vitruvian Man? Is it supposed to be an example of the perfect human? I'd love to read the fan piece when it's done!
      If you want, RUclips also has a PM system. It's a bit clunky but it works. Just go to the "About" section on the channel and there should be an option there to send a message. Thanks for watching!

    Investigate that portrait room in dark souls 3. The one with gwynevere, nashandra and the silver Knights... It's location and ds2+3 references have gone without investigation

      That room was always intrigued me! Especially because there appears to be a painting of a snowy landscape in there...
      Potential entry point for the DLC? Perhaps!

    Speaking of which, I've got a pretty good theory regarding the Cainhurst executioners. It links many hunters groups to one another.
    I think it would fit and I've got clues backing it up !
    I am not the brightest lore digger but I am fairly proud of this one.
    Want to hear it, Mitch L ?
    Would be my honor to have it in one of your videos.

      Georgiy K I believe it's Natura Sonoris or something by Bela Bartok. Alternatively it could be Music for Strings, also by Bartok. and thank you!

    I know this is late, but with it saying that Loran was “lost in the sands”. Could it be referring to lost within the sands of time since the scourge happened in Loran and with the scourge comes the hunters dream. The hunters dream never ceases, thus lost in the sands of time. Just a thought

    "Sk-er-j" like "surge" not "score-j" like "gorge". One vid is understandable, two is annoying. Still liking the in-depth videos, might wanna run words through a pronunciation thing. There's even one on google translate atm. No offense meant, I use it sometimes 'cause I'm lazy.

    Might the Pthumerians be descendants of the Great Ones?

    • @mitchl6896
      @mitchl6896  7 лет назад +2

      Sychno GuGuRoo Personally, I think not. If we are talking about beings like the Pthumerian Elder and Decendent, however, they may have been blessed or gifted by the Great Ones with great strength and powers in order to protect the tombs. For instance, the Keepers who wear the Bone Ash set gained "eternal life," presumably due to their service to the Great Ones. Hard to say for sure, but an interesting question nonetheless!

      Mitch L Thanks for the reply, I have another question: How could the church hire pthumerian guards and giants?

    • @mitchl6896
      @mitchl6896  7 лет назад

      Sychno GuGuRoo That's something I'm still working out. My current thoughts on it is that the "Pthumerian" White/Black church members are not Pthumerian, even though they look that way. Remember that in the Lecture Hall, all the Byrgenwerth students "look" Pthumerian, but obviously aren't - they have undergone a process to look like that. Something similar may have occurred with the church hunters. As for the giants, they seem have been subjugated and treated pretty badly by the real Pthumerians in the dungeons, so I guess they have either agreed to work with the Church or have been subjugated in the same way by the Church. Alternatively they could be heavily sedated, keeping them docile.

    • @NikLoserkid
      @NikLoserkid 7 лет назад

      UsuiZero it seems that Great Ones can reproduce by using humans or other species to breed, but it always comes with some degree of complications nonetheless, and so far the only children born from such origins are Mergo and the Orphan, both of which reside inside and are possibly the creators of some very personal planes of the nightmare, the first one not even possessing a visible form would seem, so the true flesh children are most likely just condemned from the start to not actually live in the real world if not as the little monsters like Arianna's baby

    ...It's almost amazing how you outright read that "Ihyll" was the _title_ of the Pthumerian monarch, (compare "queen" or "empress,") and then, not even a minute later, was speculating that "Ihyll" was the monarch's _name._
