  • Druid Peak - A troubled teen is sent to live with his estranged father, a park ranger. During his time there, he develops an unusual affinity with and passion for the wolves in a local pack.
    Druid Peak (2014)
    Director: Marni Zelnick
    Writers: Marni Zelnick
Stars: Spencer Treat Clark, Andrew Wilson, Rachel Korine
    Genre: Drama
    Country: United States
    Language: English
Release Date: March 28, 2014 (United States)
Filming Location: Jackson Hole, Wyoming, USA
    Reviews:
"Druid Peak is what great indie films should aspire towards-a great and meaningful script, cinematography that is elegant, yet restrained and performances from Spencer Treat Clark and Andrew Wilson that are believable and powerful. First time writer-director Marni Zelnick has incredible talent in both categories, but the writing , which weaves a coming of age story against the wolf reintroduction program in Yellowstone, is impressive in the extreme. Clark's character makes a journey from a completely unlikable bully to a person of substance as he discovers that wild places, and the creatures that inhabit them, can have a healing effect on those who are open to them. The transformation is both believable and more than a little inspiring.
Rachel Morrison lenses this picture with the incredible talent for which she has become widely-recognized. Her mark is on every scene, sumptuous, yet incisive. Wyoming becomes one of the"characters" of the movie under her able hands.
The chemistry between the 2 laconic leads, Spencer Treat Clark and Andrew Wilson, evolves inexorably and each actor shines in the way their relationship develops as they deliver the terse and excellent dialogue.
While set against the timely background of the effect wolves and other apex predators have on the trophic cascade, this is much more than a conservation movie, despite its message. It shows how transformation can come in many forms, including the ability to discover the wild within us."

Stunning movie. Our interconnectedness, not only with each other as humans, but with other species gets educated out of us. We are not born to lust for power and money. We are born to integrate and share, not only with other humans but with other species, both animal and plant. Thank you for this movie. It belongs in every school around the world.

This movie is unforgettable. A gem of a bildungsroman.
Every actor is compelling, the script believable and relatable, and the editing is laser-sharp. This movie's many nuances are as good as Goodwill Hunting or Dead Poets Society. The fact that there are many scenes without any dialogue and yet it manages to be so impactful says a lot about the quality of this movie. I have never seen any of these actors before nor know the director (Marni Zelnick) but, my goodness, what a masterpiece this is.

Sorry, this comment is gonna go a bit long. I'm a writer so I write, I can't help it...
When I first saw this movie title I thought it was about Druids!!! So, I dunno why I even started it, but now I do. My dad loved wolves and most of his t shirts had wolves on them. So in honor of him I watched...but then I found myself watching this amazing movie for ME!
At 45:52 I actually started to cry. It was when Owen ran with the Druid Pack. What an honor! Something I expected him to tell Everett or Jillian but he kept that for himself. I watched this scene over and over and teared up then goosebumps came EVERY time.
At 47:47 His wolf lays down with him! A beautiful gift from this creature.
At 1:01:19 The true Owen emerges, a beautiful wolf soul.
    At 1:25:10 Zoe comes around.
At 1:31:07 Owen catching snowflakes in his mouth...he's still a little boy who never knew the joy of the simple things in life...till now.
    At 1:34:00 Tragedy.
    At 1:50:13 Recognition.
    DAMN IT THE END
What can I say...This beautiful movie really moved me. Partially because I've been through Yellowstone Park many times. Even floated the Yellowstone River, but that's another story I've written about. The Park in winter is absolutely gorgeous with no people around to F everything up, especially traffic. One time, in the dead of winter I saw this bison statue, it's back and head dusted with snow, in the empty parking lot of a little store. I needed to get a pic with it. As I approached, within about five feet, the huge statue turned its head and looked directly at me! As I BOOKED IT to our truck my husband was laughing hysterically because he knew it wasn't a statue cuz he's from Montana and I'm a dumb girl from Northern California! That's another story I've written about. I'm a scuba and free diver and spent most of my time near the oceans of the world. Never really thought much about wolves, till now. Now I know why dad loved them so much. Gotcha dad! Jeeezzzz, enough about me!
What a gorgeous production from the actors to the cinematography to the musical score it's top notch. But, the WOLVES. what captivating, majestic animals! They turned Owen from a "troubled youth" into a man with a purpose in life, the wolves. yvonne

Thank You for your story. Sounds like you have an interesting life..
I had a unusual close encounter with a bison when I was out in Yellowstone.
My boyfriend & I were driving on a road & suddenly bison surrounded the car. You have no idea how large they are until that huge head is looking in the window..
Seconds later the camper in front of us starts moving..
Long story short our car was slowly moving while a huge male bison was walking beside us & making eye contact with me for 1/2 mile..
I kept saying please don't hurt me, you are beautiful..
Then the herd went down off the rode to graze..
      Then I burst into tears..
Our car was the size of an older Honda Accord which that bison could've smashed easily..

The wolf that dies was the wolf that Owen first saw when it showed itself to him. The same one that laid down with Owen at the creek. I think the wolf at the end was one of the wolves from the new pack Owen discovered. The puppies he showed Zoe.

This movie best represents growing up, the healing power of nature, and overcoming obstacles- on the other hand something that stuck out to me is- is the flip side where humanity just wants to move things out of its way, if it gets in our way- this movie evokes emotions, beautiful real emotions- thanks poster…

One of those movies that made me choke up more over seeing someone’s life improve and reminding me how absolutely sad it is that so many people in western society get robbed of their potential and finding what they love. We took a wrong turn somewhere a longtime ago and the fact movies and music have such an influence, these are the kinds of movies that could change that for the better.

Traveling through south/central Oregon in the early 2000’s, I saw a wolf along a highway. I don’t even know what road we were on. My boyfriend and I at the time, we would just hop in the truck on a Friday afternoon and travel wherever the wind blew us.
But I’ll never forget seeing that wolf!

What a wonderful movie. I loved how it was mentioned we are all interconnected, how one thing brings about change to another, meaning, we need each other to facilitate growth. Sad about the wolf. They reintroduced them here in CO and the ranchers have acted the same way, even shooting a few too. The wolves deserve to be here on this planet as do us all.

Nature and animals help us to face and heal our deepest wounds- not worthy of unconditional love and self- forgiveness. When we go through this passage, we go back to our origins. Thank you for reminding us all what the love for life and the love for ever living is all about. That is a tremendous power that has been imprinted into our beingness by the creator itself. Namaste.
