Mastermind Rogue with Dandy archetype sounds fun. Expert society at second level plus gossip lore can help out on those recall knowledge checks.

When someone wants to try something that a feat usually enables and they don't have the feat... up the dc by 5.
Eg. Lieing to make an impression. Nature to treat wounds.
If they rp if effectively, give them a +2 bonus.
All up its 3 harder but they can still try

2:10:00 The other important point of the rules is that they do not assume that everybody at the table has enjoyed 5 years of actors training in their life: Even the most "socially awkward" person has the full right to make an in-game request; - the player personality, be it 8 or 18 Charisma, should ideally not affect how the game plays out mechanically for the PC.

18:30 Important misreading of Captivator; it *does* only grant additional innate spells equal to your highest level innate spell -2. On the other hand, you mentioned that Bard lets you pick spells like Heroism, which is an enchantment spell! So Captivator grants you Heroism as an innate spell.

hey so because I joined the stream too late to pitch into the cathartic mage, there is a thing most people overlook when judging that one, which is understandable because of the buttload of emotion mechanics further down. Read the part in the dedication about the spell repertoire again. Every other archetype gives you a new way to cast, a new spellcasting class if you will with one or two cantrips and a spell per level. Cathartic mage doesn't. If you are already a spontaneous caster you add that cantrip and all those other spells to your repertoire, and when you pick up basic or expert spellcasting you later gain signature spells for your own repertoire which makes you insanely more versatile.
On a sorcerer this is utterly broken, especially if you run free archetype. Even on prepared casters it's pretty significant because you also just add these spells and spellslots to your book and cast them like you do any other spell. So it's not like let's say the wizard dedication that gives you up to 9 spells you can do 1-3 times, these are just free new spells you can prepare or spontaneous cast as you see fit. This difference to all other spellcasting archetypes makes this dedication worth it, even if you don't invest into the emotional focus feats at all.
Hope people give this archetype more of a shot, it's insane and I would give it an easy A to S.

Think cathartic mage was a bit underrated. You get spell slots and spells known added to you main casting class (so bigger repertoire and full DCs), and the whole cathartic effect only comes at the cost of having a cantrip and skill trainings instead. (Vs a normal caster archetype)
Basically it makes you much better at what you normally do, while having a niche powerup as well.

I guess the big point of Captivator is that they can get an analog of Effortless Concentration (and it's hard to get from spellcaster archetype), which is not Effortless Concentration, and therefore they stack. And also the archetype is not giving spell slot, it gives "1 time use" of an innate spell, so Heightened Captivation heightens that spell, but the spell is't occupy that highest "spell slot". And also proficiency scaling as innate spell.

    • @brianwilkins4578
      @brianwilkins4578 9 месяцев назад

Just one point of order - both effortless concentration and effortless captivation operate on the same trigger, so they will not stack. It would be amazing, but any rules lawyer type DM would strike that idea down fast 😅

Demolitionist is useful for Alchemists specifically because you can spend your FA feats for your feat tax abilities (Calculated and expanded splash) allowing you to have more class feats in alchemist. Thats it. And you can sometimes even convince your DM to just give you these alchemist feats for free since they are often seen as feat taxes.
And with the rework to alchemist coming out eventually, this niche will be removed as well if Paizo rolls these manditory class feats into the alchemist chasis itself like paizo did with advanced alchemy.

2:06:00 the question goes further... I never paid any attention to the Archetype since the name and description alone are not my stuff so reading any feats (even the dedication) is out of the question. I simply would allow a character to attempt it, likely using social, maybe diplomacy, and set some time that feels good for me.

1:19:45 I'm pretty sure the Clockwork Reanimator is inspired by a particular Magic: The Gathering card, Feldon of the Third Path, a guy who creates artifact simulacrums of dead creatures

I just finished watching the captivator segment; does anyone point out they're innate spells? So they scale with spellcasters proficiency bonus if that's higher

Yeah, seems like a very strong way to be a truly focused specialist Enchanter/Illusionist as a typical Charisma Bard/Sorc base. Throw on something like Changeling Heritage for a couple more properly scaling innates.

I love the Captivator Archetype - our master allowed us a free archetype but we are not allowed to pick any base class with it.
That means that my Bard/Captivator can heavily invest on Enchanchement and Illusion on his Captivator part with spells like heightened Phantom Pain, Illusory Creature/Blistering invective, and keep as they are other spells like Heroism, fourth level phantasmal killer/suggestion/confusion and so on. Some spells upcasted like Phantom Pain are STRONG!

Captivator vs. other " spontaneous caster" archetypes is a trade-off: The latter get lots of low-lvl class feats, and at least 2 different spells in their lower spell levels; chosen from the whole list of their tradition . Captivators otoh may get only one Enchantment/Illusion spell per level. But: Whereas Level 12 Sorcerer ( Free )Archetypes ( e.g.) have (afaik) a Spell Slot distribution of 2/2/1/1, useful only for some minor utility, Captivators get 2/2/2/1/1 instead, with maybe 1-2 " Signature Spells" for their innate casting in the mix. - So: Actually an ideal choice if one mostly cares about adding the most powerful Illusion/Enchantment spells possible, and less about additional feats, or some minor flexibility gains.

I will start this comment with the admission that I have only gotten to try PF2e for one mini adventure of the begginers box online. I will also admit to watching all of your actual plays and probably over 90% of all of your other content. I like/agree with a lot of your opinions.
But knowing the group I have played with the most over the last decade or so, I can safely assume that we would never have the access to magic items that you always use as reason to put a negative spin on may of these archtypes and a lot of the spells during your ranking videos. A good example is the dragon disciple archtype. Now since you have seen it in play you probably have a better sense, but it seems like a focus spell for one minute of flight is nearly equalivant to wingned boots (at least in combats). you are effectivily flying for the entire combat, and long enough to get over a lot of non combat obstacles.
Doesn't make it an A or B level archtype, but not sure it is a D.

    So much time wasted
