That would get a large percentage of guys on the SWAT entrance test. 60 sit-ups in 2:00 is easy, but after a 1.5 mile timed run, it’s a different workout. Hip flexors are pre-exhausted. Gotta do the test in order to the time standard.

100%true with regards to prepping to do all the exercises in a row. I was prepped for mile and half run, push ups, sit ups, pull ups, but doing them all at once was another level.

For me, it was really important to have the mental discipline to stay in the present. Don't try and figure out what is next. Just focus on the task in front of you.

What is covered after selection, is a skill that can be learned. The initial prep is a check of character, does he want to be here, not how good of a soldier he is, that part hasnt come yet.

I rarely do, but I have to disagree here with SOME of this methodology. Jeff Nichols and Stew Smith talk about this a lot. It’s important to pass the test, but the test means nothing if you aren’t ready for the 27 weeks to follow. If the test was the standard, everyone would just do push ups sit ups and run to train for x y z selection course. If you think selection is going to train you for selection, you are going to be in for a rude awakening. Great conversation here and looking forward to more!

They do. I went this past Jan. I did not know that prior to going. I was glad I ran without watches in track in high school and throughout my earlier years in the Army. If I hadn’t done it prior to, I would’ve probably had my butt hole puckered throughout gate week.

500 yards combat side stroke then 85 push ups… was rough and then to the pull ups’s killed me. I’m 6’ 5” so pull ups were horrible. This was just the PST for SWCC. After a year I get the competitive score then separate my collarbone snowboarding the day after. Don’t sign a contract for anything other than your desired job.

Andy Stumpf told a story a few years back on his podcast (or a Rogan one) where the schedule for Hell Week had leaked so everyone knew every little detail of the week and what was to come. The attrition rate didn't change one bit. I'm willing to bet it made people LESS prone to finishing it because it wasn't just the task ahead of them, but rather "oh it's 5 more days of this.." going through their brain. It's great to NOT know. You don't NEED to. Just do what you're asked, do it well, and you'll succeed.

    • @Jonathan-fn5dq

That's exactly it. Just stay in the moment and view every next meal as a victory. Even guys 4 days into first phase panic and lose their constitution because they get wrapped up in that "I have to endure this torture everyday for 6 months" BS.
