I'm starting this series from the beginning to attempt to absorb Dave's secret knowledge. What a trip it is to see these videos - but also what astounding quality for 12-13 years ago.
Those background sounds are quite interesting too. The fan sounds in the madeground made me wonder for a second why the switch on my desk suddenly started making cooling sounds and then the plane @6:56
What did you expect? I have worked at the Microchimp Fab in Tempe Arizona. Not surprising at all. I have some great horror stories from there, but won't share then here. I prefer to put my FET stuff's leads into ESD foam.
I've worked for years at a wooden table, on concrete floor, bare handed - and never had a problem. Then I watched this video, and your vid a couple years later, and guess what happened? All of a sudden I shorted out my first pre-built arduino! And that doesn't even make sense!
See I thought the only "Anti static" bag was the shiny kind. I had no idea there were other kinds, to me the dissipative bag looks like a regular ziplock baggie.
And if you are mega paranoid, you will send your parts through static shielding mail services :D Dave seems somewhat more strained in the early videos. Now he has much more relaxed attitude. No wonder - in that time he had to try hard to build up his audience.
lol, never hear of it. and I thought it was obvious that I was joking, lol :P but yes, after a quick google that was the kind of people I was trying to satire :)

Wood is somewhat conductive, concrete is conductive, your flesh is conductive... what did you change?
@billysgeo I hate the pen type form factor, I find the folding pocket type a much more usable form factor for everyday use.
