    Yeah they should have taken the fuses out to check they isolated what they thought it was isolating.
    The fan would have stayed energized upon removal of the fuse and that is when they should have started investigating the wiring fault.
    Installer needs to remember that there isn't sampling on new installations and 100% of the installation needs to tested and then subsequent results recorded on an Electrical installation certificate.
    Great videos Thomas, keep it up mate! Inspiring!

    I'm waiting for that teardown by Big Clive, because I'm curious now too. Brilliant idea, BTW, to send him stuff, it made me find your channel before the YT algorithm suggested it.
    I tore a few retrofit LED bulbs down, and the ones that failed prematurely were all victims of overheating. The weight difference between the old and new version could have one or two reasons: less aluminium for cooling and/or no potting compound.

    I did that at school in the PT class (Physical Training, misnamed as Physical Torture) several decades ago. Yes, you jump up, grab, the rope, then bring both feet as high as you can, locking the rope between them, and push up with your legs, regrab higher with your hands, and go again with bringing your feet as high as possible, etc. Pretty straight forward, and even for a non-physical twerp that I was, it was pretty simple, and easy.

    Solution to the grid switch fault will of course work but the more correct way is to have the switch upstream of the fuse, thus allowing the fan switch to isolate the fuse making for safer changing.

    I’ve used Philips WarmGlow dimmable GU10s in my house. Bit more expensive than the LAP - I got them for about £2.50 each on Amazon, but they change colour temperature when you dim them (like the old halogens), and I’ve not had a single one of the (around) 60 burn out yet since I installed them a couple of years ago.

I hope not. The LAP stuff comes with 3 year warranty, do the new ones?...hmmm. let's see what Big C uncovers eh.

  • @Russwig
    @Russwig 3 года назад

    Bet you find that Clive discovers the power supply is different as well as heat dissipation has changed on those GU10s. Likely same as VCRs used to have 2 or 3 actual manufacturers and all the final 30 or 40 companies that sold them just added their brand names/logos to the enclosures.

    As a DITY-er, I used about 50 LAP fittings in in three-bed house. Less than four years on, four of them have failed. Three where a rocker switch no longer 'feels right' or doesn't work at all, and one dimmer where where the push no longer latches. Not acceptable.

  • @michaelgorman1359
    @michaelgorman1359 3 года назад

    Really if the Physical attributes change so drastically it is really a different product and should have a new part code / SKU. Will be interesting to see the tear down to see the difference. The problem is companies chase higher margins and compete for better value / lower or static prices. That can only go so far before either design, quality or both are compromised. Once you have to go back an change out early failure lamps any price difference is wiped out. However as a working electrician you tend to stick with what works and is proved reliable. However if the manufacturer / seller changes the product without changing the part number - you don’t really stand a chance. Your supplier while good value is now costing you money and possible reputation dents. The issue is when you track the supply chain back to factory. It’s likely that the factory is white labelling for many value conscious brands and large wholesale group own brands. Depending how they buy ( direct or through agents ) it’s easy to see how control over quality gets lost. It’s simple to buy on basics Colour Temp Colour rendering Lumens out beam width etc oh and of course price. But past that the way things are designed manufactured assembled etc is the real story. if LED is not lasting many many times the life of tungsten lamps then there is something dramatically wrong.

    Put a big knot in the bottom of the rope, it gives you a platform to get your feet in position so your aren't burning your arms out holding yourself up on the rope while you're trying to position your feet.
    Also try and use the inner arch/side of the bottom foot and the inner arch/sole of the top foot to lock the rope between your feet you kind of have to twist your bottom foot inwards a bit and tilt it out a bit then use the inner arch/sole of the top foot to pin the rope.
    Hope that makes sense it's quite hard to put into words 😅

    I'd stick to quality branded lamps, it only reflects on you when the customer has to replace them all in 12 months or they notice how flickery they are, if you're holding stock why not order a few hundred Osram/Philips/etc

    • @mikeZL3XD7029
      @mikeZL3XD7029 3 года назад

      Define quality lamps though, Ed C, I've seen them in boxes that say Osram and the like, this stuff is out-sourced, nice and cheap manufacture.

    ROPE CLIMBING TECHNIQUE! pull up with your arms to get your feet off the ground, spread your legs apart, take your right leg and put it across the rope so that the rope runs along your inner thigh and dangles by the right side of your right ankle, loop your right foot under that dangling rope so that the rope lies across the top of your foot and now dangles down the inside of your foot... NOW take the sole of your left foot and clamp the rope tightly down onto the top of your right foot... in this position you can pretty much take all the weight off your arms, the climbing technique should come naturally! good luck!

    • @djturbine7565
      @djturbine7565 3 года назад

      Well if a 2.5 ring can easily carry up to 50 odd amps then I would say it’s fairly obvious a fuse could blow well before the integrity of the cables is compromised by overcurrent.

    • @kevinbinnie6940

      Yes you'd be right, but once the fuse pops you'll just pull your current down one leg of the ring, essentially ending up with 2 undersized radials.
