People are going to complain about King and Yoshi till the end of time until they're nerfed into oblivion. Still going to play them though
They as well as Law need to be on a similar level to the rest of the characters. It’s really what most people want.
What sucks about king, and it’s kind of bad game design, is the fact that you need to learn how to break out of grabs and counter grabs that are almost exclusively to him. a newcomer won’t understand how to break out of his grabs (other characters like Nina, drag, and azucena have some grabs that also require specific counters, but king is number one by far). This is what makes the character a cancer to play against. The fact that there are no flashes during the middle of his animation grabs to indicate when to press will confuse newcomer to no end.
The fact that they have to go to RUclips to learn how to counter king highlights the stupidity of the situation (argue that they can enter practice mode to see how to break it, but other than the lack of intuitiveness of practice mode, they have to go through many many moves to figure out which move they’re trying to learn because they will not know the name of the move outright)
Also, no matter how much someone is a fan of king , they have to admit that homing grabs and buffing the grab mechanic has made him even worse to play against. Factor in the fact that he’s one of the few grappling characters in the genre that moves as quickly as other characters and doesn’t have any weaknesses to balance him, puts him in the ‘must be balanced territory’.
As for law, main man SWE has just released a video explaining the issues with him.

A:knowledge to counter a counter
or
B:experience playing against said character.

If king and grabs are super strong why he dont win evo Japan. Ppl still duck and break many grabs, i hope they dont break King to much.
Because they are playing local and not online. King is super Strong if you have 2-3 rollback frames. Same as Kazuha, Devil Jin, Reina and Law. The game function way diferent in tournaments.
@@rafal2675 I play mostly online, and ppl still break duck my grabs. It is 50/50 lile all characters now, duck or break grab, and i dont think he is OP.
@@CleanLin3 You can grapple people in crouch position too. So basically you have two 50/50 moves for the posible enemy moves just presing few buttons, plus a very usefull launcher (kick) if the enemy duck. Plus all of the other low frames moves, which include a follow up guarantee every time you use the armor move. He has all of those plus and even he can side step and play long range. King is very op
@@rafal2675 i disagree, you dont have guarantee anythink after armor move is all reactable. Plus this kick is same like crouch throw if you guess wrong you are punished badly. So is not Op is of those like you complain.
@@CleanLin3 he is quite op imo, especially now since drag and azu wont be top 5 after the patch. Then weakness king had before is that you can literally just hit him since his movement hae alway been lackluster. But in this game he has like 3 viable powercrushes that completely negae these weaknesses, such as b3. He also benefitted most from the grab changes. Throws home, beat powercrushes and armor, ch utility, and is simply an unblockable high with very low recovery. His giant swing also does 70 to 80 dmg in the wall which is not ok at all. His heat smash also directly forces you into a mixup ON block and deals an insane amount of damage on hit. I also cant stress how broken homing throws are for king. It tracks to both godamn sides, why? Imagine kazuyas hellsweep tracked to both sides. Any kind of move that heavily restricts sidestepping and 3d movement in the core gameplay is just not good game desgin imo. Homing moves have the weakness usually that they are far slower or punishable, kings throws are basically a low.
General throw nerfs aren't gonna make people cry less about King.
He's literally baby's first "learn the matchup" challenge in T8, with huge, obvious moves.
Until gamers get to that point, swole Mexican furry is gonna keep handing them Ls.
Id rather stance cancels not be cocaine levels of speed than have king grabs nerfed.

Crazy idea here why not have KINGS throws specifically be homing considering he is a unique charachter and a grappler by nature, HE should have better grabs then the rest of the cast. However fuck homing throws on all other charachters.
I feel this actually, plus if you play against a good tekken player they duck and break a good percentage of my throws. I have to do a lot of Mixups on my throws
I think the shorter throw reach was a trade for them tracking, perhaps they'll bring back the 15 frame further reaching throws.

I think a nice middle ground can be the side it leads with is the side it tracks towards,so they’ll be Stepable in some cases, but you can use them to catch people stepping.
I thought abt this too, but the more I think about it. The less I like this idea. Because it requires no real knowledge check. Your opponent can simply guess which side to step, and if they're wrong, then they now know for certain what button to break the throw with. Wed have a scenario where people sidestep while pressing the opposite side button. Making throws impossible
If they're changing the homing on throws, I'm hoping that at most, they maybe just lessen the tracking and not remove it completely. Like maybe if the opponent is at 90° it'll whiff or something. What would you think if they changed what side throws track to depending on what hand is used? Like 1 throws track one way, 2 the other, 1+2 to both?
I haven't been able to play online at all since launch. I live in the woods in Florida and have no internet out here except satellite/mobile hotspots. Fiber is finally coming to my area and I'm scheduled to have it installed in July. I hope King is still good by the time I get to play, as I've been playing him since Tekken 1 when I was 12yrs old in 94'. Hope you're doing good Majin.

In T7 only a few very good tekken players knew kings throw Set ups and were able to step and launch correctly. I find it hilarious that everyone is hopping on that King bashing Band Waggon as if they are all able to step throws like korean top players 😂

If a throw lands on counter hit the frames automatically default to 10 frames to break so doing a blue spark won't make it 7 frames

I agree but I also get why pros want homing throws gone so if bamco's ever removing it please don't touch king's blue spark throws that way u have a reason to learn and use these throws which aren't easy to do
I think for the sake of character identity king can have ch throws unbreakable. But that should also come at a cost of nerfing his neutral tools like df2,1. A 10-12 frame borderline homing throw that can lead to 60-70 is a bit too much.
Throw breaks animations need to change to the character breaking the throw, will reverse throw for 5dmg and no wake up options but you get a throw of your own for 5dmg.
Yo Majin, have a question for you, so I understand that blue spark ch grabs are 7f instead of 10f, but do they also apply to non ch? like do regular blue spark grabs have a 17f break window or something while non blue spark are 20f? I swear it feels harder to break but not sure, thanks (btw its Silvers_7 from the twitch chat, hope you're doing well dude!), but I do agree that ch throws should stay the same and not be nerfed, just make them easier to step and they would be fine imo.
You are correct. Blue sparks have an 18f break window and still do after the patch. It seems like they are still 7f to break on CH also. I'm glad that they left those untouched.
It will kind if harads buff kings grabs when is in rage mode to balance or give him that for at moment or at least buff his buttons +1 on his unique style

Word i feel like mid throws and mid attacks is where king flourishes. You condition your opponent then throw in those tombstones, or shining wizards.
I believe that all throws, except for King's, should be toned down and made less powerful. King being a wrestler, should have all the benefits that come throwing this includes homing throws and grabs that have less frames. This is a crucial part of his persona as a wrestler. You can't Nerf a wrestler and take away his grabs

Homing throws takes away the counterplay for King almost entirely, that's everyone's issue with it besides King players
Everyone is talking about homing throws being the Main issue for King to be nerfed. Hilarious since only high Level players are able to side step those throws. They know the match up and kings frame Set ups and traps into throws to correctly sidestep ans launch. Im an advanced King Player and only a few very good opponents in T7 were able to step throws correctly.
Pls guys dont just repeat what others say or complain about a specific mechanic like homing throws. Most of you guys will not be able to step Kings GS or muscle buster. It has to be a Set up for you to know about King to sidestep that. F.e. im able to do running Giant swing. Nobody of you guys complaining here about homing throws will be able to sidestep that. Steping throws especially kings best throws like GS or MB is very high Level play. Most of these dudes complaining about throws to be homing will never be able to side step or even break a generic throw from any character.

I also realised that alot of players tend to hit king on his legs more, maybe its his weak spot I hate it when they do that, what specific move do recommend me to use against other players when they do that to me, cause I am a king main.
I say the only nerf to throws should be making u able to side step and nothing else that way they are useful but not spammed
If they want to make the Jaguar Sprint's mid options unsafe, they should compensate by making the RKO unreactable. He'll be no different from Lei and most other character's stances. High risk high reward.

I think a good half measure would be to make them steppable directionally, how steppable moves are steppable. 1 throw? Step to your left to avoid it. Opposite for 2, then make 1+2 throws unsteppable.

Jaguar sprint is super reactable and doing the slide or grab is just giving your opponent a free combo (not sure how many characters have a pickup that works for the slide since im not very experienced). o7 to kings winrate

for jaguar step make rko 20frames. for the low he doesn't make a sound but he needs -12 frame on one of mids. also the ffn2 needs a small nerf in dmg on the counter hit. dealing with that and heat smash and having grabs catch sidestep just feels bad
Ffn2 is telegraphed easily. No need to nerf
@@gigaswag9553 what are you smoking? ffn2 can be mixed up with so many option and it hits grounded the counter hit does crazy damage and gives good okie. it crushes high so the counter hit aint that hard to get off. it needs some kind of nerf.

You're right bro - I play king too, I like that throws are actually something people have to think about it now - the rest of the cast has the same powers as king the only difference is king has the mind game and multiple techs and ambigous hands. But in Casino 8, the comparison between the majority of the cast, king does not fare well and has bad match ups, I'm playing at an intermediate / high level online bunshin to GoD ranks and at my locals and grabs are still not as good as people think they are. Been playing other characters like Leo and Reina and the shit they can do is way scarier way more consistent than one grab and its mechanics. I don't think the devs should balance for high level tournament play or scrubs but like grabs going back to T7 is wack, they obvs designed it like this to stop pressure and get a turn back because grabs allow you to set the playing field again.

Pero como main King, desde el principio sentí un nerfeo muy contundente al personaje con su B1, DB3 en CH y tenía sentido que quieran que King sean enfocado en sus agarres, pero si la mayoría se frustra con sus agarres para que todos sus agarres no sean versátiles, mejor no hubieran hecho ningún cambio y quedarnos con TK7,también no veo sentido que Jaguar R tenga cambios, he incluso lanzarlo a mitad de neutral e muy arriesgado salvo cuando tenemos alguna ventaja.

I think jaguar sprint is nice to have and is of value to king plus it is good skill expression for the defender to react to the RKO or play the mind game . throws though tracking is too strong in my opinion and kill the benefit of the tracking green arc moves so I think throws purpose is to check your opponent throw breaks and apply the mental pressure as well in mid match it's like a COMPLETENESS check on your opponent "have you skipped your homework ?" but I understand in high level of play it is a different deal since all high level players are expected to have great throw reaction/breaks so my condolences to King and King players who are tournament competitive .

7:38 can you escape kings air throw? The first one before he does it a second time. I saw in the training menu it had an escape. But I’ve never pulled it off. Does anyone know if you can?

It’s not really back to T7 throws. Guaranteed throws against power crush / parry are still great buff. Many T8 characters have spammable heat engager power crushes or launcher sabakis. And 20->14 frame CH window is not a free break anymore. Even if they take away homing buff, throws are still much better than T7.
To be honest going back to T7 sounds like a good thing, throws should not be as difficult as they are to break and they should not be homing, I understand this guts some of kings moves but he has a lot of moves outside throws

King in T7 main problem he had everything in to set up throws which was useless.
T8 king lost alot of the other stuff and tracking on regular attacks to compensate for having strong tracking throws .
I absolutely love king but the idea of side stepping grabs, I don't like that idea at least if they are going to make them side stepable then make it as in for example if I do a giant swing it can only be side stepped on the right side and the F5 can only be side stepped on the left side but 1+2 grabs can't be side stepped, I find it a good Idea but people will still complain about king and nerf him 😢
IMO, I don’t mind the grab nerf because it’s too OP and I’ll have a grab escape read after someone’s heat dash that is just simply inescapable. This would make it to where players have to mix you more than get a free grab after heat dash / attacks

I dont even think kings throws was his main issue it was really just the heat smash damage and mix he gets off of the armored stance. Hopefully these changes to throws are subtle and not a complete revert back to T7.
I love t8 for what it is i feel like i can use all my options with my character. I dont want this game to go back to a 2-3 min poke fest. Last years evo grand finals was so wack. Amazing high level play yea. But incredibly boring gameplay. Hopefully they just tone down the damage or something.
You'll be alright, we always find a way. I don't play with King but, I'm gonna play my main no matter what.
Defense definitely needs to be rewarded though... cause man. I love T8, but it really plays like a 2D fighter.

Wrong Change, they just beeded to remove homing throws. I have no idea what they are thinking with some of this games design choices.
Just go to training and prsctixe throw breaks. They will feel impossible for a while. Youll eventually differentiate lol
There’s so many complaints early that they’re going to be hella reactive to keep the playing of the game up. After a year or so they’ll probably tweak things again back to being more “like T8”
The complaints are valid tho. Heat is BUSTED for most characters I wish it was never added. Too many + frame moves and low heat smashes are crazy

They brought in rage arts by copying supers from Street Fighter and then they copied the heat mode from soul Calibur@@mustangmckraken1150

If you wanna use King in ranked, You gotta learn at least 3 combos. You can't rely on grabs as Lil Majin says,90% of his grabs are canceled

If they're smart about balancing...and we're still not sure on this point., but if they really want to gut throws then the changes they make to King HAS to be buffs to the rest of his kit. King's tracking is abysmal compared to the rest of the cast.
I'm confident my opponents will still refuse to break grabs even if breaking it killed King forever and deleted him from the game.

To tell you how i feel about potential king changes, he's actually in a pretty good spot imo, fighting against him isn't too overwhelming. Only problem i have is his heat, it does so much chip and normal damage, idk if you can step it or beat it with another move, I've just been blocking and taking chip, and some games it puts me in a 50/50 and that's the round
His heat smash can be side stepped to the right, like most of his neutral tools. When King's in heat Another thing you can do is to side step right and duck. Ssr evades his heat smash and ducking evades his throws besides most of King's good moves can be stepped to the right. I'm tired of seeing people complain about king.
Also if u wna completely nullify King's jaguar sprint mixup, you can first start off by practicing reacting to the R.K.O(i23) also you can react to King's low from jaguar print by the sound he makes before the move, can't really explain how it sounds thou 🤣with both of the options gone you no longer have the reason to duck anymore just punish accordingly by reacting to both of the moves.now excluding the R.K.O king doesn't really have a good alternative to make you duck although the low is pretty chunky(20 dmg) but he is minus evn on hit after that, you can get a either get a guaranteed low hitting move after you block it( some characters like lee can get a combo out of it) or low parry, wouldn't recommend it thou since low parry takes 6 frames extending your ducking frames. Lastly I believe you can fuzzy duck the faster mid(i16) and the low(i20), high level tech but it is doable if you grind it enough. Also keep it in mind that fuzzy block can be disrupted by delaying the moves which king has the liberty to do so in his jaguar sprint but delaying means you now have the option to interrupt making it a "I knew all along that you knew all along" situation 🤣The other mid is i22 which can technically be also fuzzied but it's near JDCR level 😅 honestly thou us King main don't really use that move all that much. I don't understand why people complain about the jaguar sprint so much, if you look at it it is kind of a gimmick with lots of options with good consistency to get around it.

yes Thank you!!! i think counterhit throws or Punish throws should be unbreakable. one or the other. The grappler needs some kind of guaranteed throw dmg. with everything being breakable, sometimes it feels useless to throw when you face someone who somehow breaks everything. The concept of CH applied to hits and throws, and now they're walking it back... Shit, fine make them easier to break, but +10 dmg...i'll take that.
I appreciate Namco listening to the audience, but this is one of those instances of them doing too much too fast instead of letting things settle. I think if they nerf throws without giving king better strikes or a string with good low in it...he's no longer viable competitively.
Update: King will be fine everyone. Many of his basic throws still tracks💪🏿(Arghhhhhh)
I kind of see a pattern going on. If you pay attention, Tekken Project has always treated King like "the rest" in the sense that they dont see him as a specialist that highly depends on his throws, since he lacks good low and wall game. Yes, some of his mids and highs are VERY strong, but cmon, he IS the grappler, atleast treat him like one.
I hope they don't nerf him too much because if a noob like me can duck throws everyone can.
I don't think nerfing throws will nerf King to hell. I've always thought that throws are really powerful no matter what level you're at. King is especially good since you can't just hopkick most of his key throws. You lose very little for attempting to throw and you just have to look at your throw being broken like a low being blocked, except you're not eating guaranteed damage
Youre right if the opponent doesn't duck or out-space the throw. The punishment for a whiffed can be huge compared to blocking or even low parrying a fast low poke.
Throws need to have their damage set to 90% recoverable health.

I think they should revert ALL throws to 7 and make king the only one playing tekken 8 throws. Makes both sides happy and I think is a solid compromise. King hasn’t been getting nerfed per se but all of these system changes are not helping.
I wouldnt mind grapplers in Tekken having strong throws if they didn't have good normals/moves.
Can't have a character having good throws and also able to beat you up without throws.

I'm being punished more and more for using jag sprint. People of learned it and it's why past being a free mix.
King's Heat is pretty bad outside of his Heat Smash imo. His Heat Engagers are kinda bad (so naturally his Heat Dashes are also), and he doesn't get any good buffs from it like most characters do. If they change throws so much on top of that, he just goes back to doing the opposite of what the system encourages
yeh i agree.. all of his heat engagers are slow AF. you literally have to use them as a whiff punish from away or lucky hits on ppl's wake up.

I personally think that King is perfectly balanced and also a very good character overall. But i think the roaming throws should go, they, messed up other characters as well, some of the counterplayer for certain characters are designed based on sidestepping making them way harder to face of.
I for instance feel that king is one of my best match ups, because i know him pretty well, but than comes like Drag (which was only supposed to be beaten by sidestepping) even nerfed he can mitigate so much of his weakness by grabbing and having a very good set of throws (in addition to d2 and db 3+4), i think characters like these should not have roaming throws, it causes more damage to the overall balancing of the game than makes the game fun. And we cant have two different rules for different characters, that said i think they should remove throws tracking completely.
As regarding throw break windows, it shouldn't be changed, is fine the way it is now.
It's absurd to remove homing throws, I see no problem in it
If the devs nerf king who is already gong to have tough time getting top 8/16 in competitions, then they outright kill the character. As a grappler he ought to have THE advantage in grabs over every other character.
So i dont play or like going against king but I enjoy king players and the persona

I really don't think King should get anymore nerfs in my opinion, counter grabs being 14 frames to break is also very inconsistent, setting to 12 or keeping them at 10 would probably be a much better solution.
As for Just Frame grabs for anyone (including king) they should not be touched. 7 frames is very respectable for them in my opinion because its a Just Frame, they are moves that take more skill to pull off and they are meant to reward players for doing them properly.
Last thing is just to leave Jaguar Step alone, there's no need for it to be nerfed at all, paying attention to audio queues and being able to react is a thing that people don't do which is the reason they may be losing to it, just pay attention to key queues with good reaction timing and I promise you the game will be easier.✅
As for Alisa, the way she is now kinda bothers me and I main her. I think a really healthy change is to decrease her chainsaw chip damage. Anything after that would be a long discussion.

I complain a lot about some characters, but I don`t ask for nerfs `cause I know its my fault for not learning those characters. I though the point of Fighting games was to learn and adapt in order to get better, not whining for nerfs.
Throws being untrackable really hurts characters that already have poor tracking and bad movement like Jak, King, etc. It's already bad enough we cant step certain moves in this 50/50 oriented game and now we cant even keep people from side-stepping our buttons or option-selecting our fake pressure stances like Gamma Howl and Jaguar Sprint. At least give us our back dash back or reduce these ridiculous hit boxes for all these smaller characters
My thoughts on it? I'll need to see, because the devs are out of their mind for things, but since people want to complain so much, here would be my ideas. I'll pretend I'm the devs for a minute.
Remove Universal tracking on throws for everyone. They're just all gone.
For King? Suplex and Winding Nut is universal so it no longer tracks. However, the Forward versions of them DO track. To make up for this, since Forward versions are no longer universal and are command throws, you *must* break F1+3 with a 1 and F2+4 respectively, it's now up to the players to have to notice which hands King is using again for these grabs and when they can SS.
Since people wanted the game to focus on "lateral movement" more, King's side grabs are unbreakable now and a person *must* duck to get around them since they don't track anymore.

Throw Away tracks in general.
Executioner Drop tracks right.
Tombstone Pile Driver is now a mid grab but still has the same animation. Since we wanted to focus on lateral movement, we needed to give King a special grab that's mid and could be a mix-up. But just because people wanted to focus more on lateral movement, the throw break is now 2+3 and breaks all rules of every grapple in the game.
Giant Swing ukemi now does gray damage for the damage they would have taken if they didn't ukemi.
Ultimate Tackle is now a Power Crush and still tracks.
Reverse Arm Slam tracks left.
Reverse special stretch bomb combo tracks right.
Arm Breaker Combo tracks left
Standing Heel Hold Combo tracks right.
Mexican Magma Drive locks you out of the subsequent escape if you guess wrong.
King's throws during heat cannot be broken to force people to think about the lateral movement of ducking throws. (This one is largely a joke that I don't expect to be in here).
Patch Notes: We wanted to keep King's identity of throwing people and people not knowing the match up that they refused to learn with practice, so we decided that instead of King having universal throws that make sense, we made them even more confusing for other players to deal with while placing more emphasis on lateral movement that won't actually help them but nerfs everyone else in the game but helps King mains because something that works for everyone else still no longer works against King.
If they make throws steppable, hopefully they have it to that kings throws aren't steppable. Thus reinforcing his identity as a wrestler. Yes, I am huffing that copium
I guess I'm not playing Tekken 8 or bothering with it until every nerf on King or other character is done - I don't wanna have to re-learn shit all over again as if we're still beta testing after paying for the game. I can wait like I did with 7.
They should allow some throws to be homing, if there was only one or two homing throws for each character, it would have been easier to balance.
Yeah, this. Imho the only real issue is that all throws track, which gave everyone extra homing moves sure, but gave King what, 50? And they're quick too

Tekken 8 Throws are pretty much unbreakable in intermediate level and below. Break percentage even at high level is less than 50 percent. The percentages become around 70 percent in pro level. The top level Tekken is 80 to 90 percent. All throws needed were the counter hit and punish properties to become viable options at pro and top level. The homing properties were unnecessary. If they make offense strong, then I believe movement should be just as strong. The tunnel vision was narrow as hell with Tekkem 8.
