    Hi Jon, sorry I haven't messaged sooner. I have been down BKK for work and only just caught up with your videos. Don’t blame yourself for this dude, it is completely unprecedented. Don’t know what to say, hardly feels like any words matter in situations like this. I guess I will just stop complaining about my leaky extension and call myself lucky. Hopefully you get things straightened out soon. Keep clean and keep healthy, keep optimistic! ✌🏼

    Unfortunately not my first flood.
    I have used flat fan nozzle on the pressure washer, it work well for "wet sweeping" the mud and a wet vacuum to suck up the slurry.
    There are also good for sucking the mud out of you P traps in the showers and floor drains.
    I am luck to have high volume/pressure town water.
    Good luck, stay safe

      This is why they often refer to these are 100 year floods (in the US, at least) because they only happen about once every 100 years, kind of like global viral pandemics usually happy once every 100 years.

This is a financially terrible evident, but the good news is that he and his entire family are safe, and he already told he has money in the bank after he was laid off, so that's a bit of a buffer in tragic times.

    It looks like your cooking area was solid concrete and tiles .That will survive but you had another area a Thai man was demolishing with the extractor.I would replace that with a solid concrete structure or you can get stainless steel units at Homepro .I would be careful of wetting the walls too much with the power spray .Its not good for the plaster or plaster board .

    For your information, maybe you'll have a similar experience. My car flooded to the door handles in Pai a couple of weeks ago and bought back to Honda Chiang Mai for insurance repair. Under my 1st class policy, once the repair cost gets up to 70% of the insured value, the insurer will pay out as a write off (or I can get it repaired but pay any extra over the 70% covered by the insurer). Honda hasn't finalised my repair estimate but is already going over 70% of insured value. I sense insurer may be preferring write-offs because of the volume and time to repair many flooded vehicles in CM.

    • @le_th_
      @le_th_ День назад

      Yes, this happens in the US, too. If the repair costs exceed the current market resale value of the vehicle, they will often just write you a check for the car and then take the car and resell it for parts (to make up the difference).
      Cars are actually often worth more money sold in parts than they are whole, so the insurance company can (sometimes) recoup some of the money they pay the insured.
      I don't mean selling destroyed engine parts, but selling things like the windows, the lid to the boot, the tires, etc. that are not damaged by the water, or even selling the entire thing to a junk yard (depending on the state of the vehicle).
      Insurance companies are NOT going to pay more than any vehicle is worth. Some will not even give you the option of paying for the balance of the repairs because they know the car can't be resold. If you DO opt to repair a flood damaged car, they may refuse to insure it. It depends on how much engine damage there is.

    I think you need to consider getting some dryers in, water will have found its way under the floor tiles /grout and into the sub floor ..... Could be problematic later on.. .. .

    • @le_th_
      @le_th_ 23 часа назад

      Wow, is this ever true....his insurance company needs to get a professional mitigation and restoration team out there right away because in a matter of days it can become a toxic environment that is no longer habitable.
      If that is sheetrock, they need to measure how much moisture was been wicked into the sheet rock, and flood cuts need to be done.
      If this house had wood framing, the flood cuts need to be done to allow the wood framing to dry out and to be treated with borax to kill the mold that is now growing.
      Concrete is porous and will also soak up water, a lot of people don't realize that concrete is also porous (this is why we put up gutters to catch the rain water around our house, so it doesn't cause more damage to our foundation as it runs off our roof.
      The very first thing they need is a shop vac to get all of the water out. Right now, he is putting MORE water in there, and he's filming it, too, so if his insurance company sees this video, they may not cover him.
      You shop vac all the water out first.
      After the shop vac, you measure the moisture content of the walls with a moisture meter.
      After you find where the moisture level STOPS, you then make flood cuts 18-21 inches ABOVE the water level you can visually see on the wall, which lets air get in to dry behind the wall. THEN, you keep cutting until the moisture meter reads dry.
      *Normal moisture reading for drywall or sheetrock is somewhere between 5% and 12% moisture*. Anything above that is NOT considered normal. It must be cut away and replaced.
      A simple Google search typing "Flood cuts explained" can bring up the info on this.

    Hey Jon, not sure if you know, but the wood in those walls will mold without being treated. I had a building flood and the only way to stop the mold was to cut out the drywall that soaked about 2ft up and treat the wood and then replace the drywall. Bleach is the recommended treatment, but there are some professional treatments as well. Google has details on the methods and their efficacies.

    Have you considered wainscoting on the walls in some of the rooms? Looks good if done well and would save removing the unaffected wallpaper.

    • @le_th_
      @le_th_ День назад

      He does NOT want to put ANYTHING on these walls right night. If anything, he needs to make flood cuts to get rid of the waterlogged part of the wall and let it air dry, and treat it with a borax solution to kill all the mold.
      This is the land of high humidity. You do NOT want to give mold an opportunity to grow anywhere because once you do, it will spread like wildfire and your home will become so toxic that you can no longer live in it AND you cannot sell it to anyone else.
      Think of what would have happened if he had wood wainscotting on those walls during the flood? All that wood would be waterlogged and have to be thrown out.
      No one in a flooded home can afford to make aesthetic decisions. You MUST allow everything to dry out and clean everything...even your cloth items...with Borax to kill all the mold spores.
      This is a very serious situation....now is NOT the time to worry about aesthetics.
      If that is drywall, it is like a WICK that will soak up all that water and never show it's moisture content until a moisture meter is used to read it.
      I learned this from watching the team of professionals who did the flood cuts of drywall in my 10 story building (and I had a commercial grade build with no wood framing, only steel framing). If he has wood framing, that wood INSIDE the walls must have air to dry out, and then the wood must be treated with Borax to kill any mold spores before it can be sealed up again.

    • @le_th_

      Most every country around the world has something known, historically, as a 100 year flood, a 500 year flood, and a 1000 year flood. These are the places that very rarely flood except every 100, 500, or 1000 years. Geologists in the area usually know about these rare flood events.
      The sad fact is that no matter where on this planet you live, there will be natural disasters. It's not a matter of if, it's more a matter of when.
      Sometimes you will find a very old person in their 80s or 90s who will remember a story from their own grandparents where there was an epic flood event in their lifetime.

      @@Mummalez Well, concrete is porous. He needs to have a ShopVac in there sucking the water out that he is now letting sit, and he just put all that water in there with the pressure sprayer.
      You never let water sit like that on flooring, it will seap into the grout and become a mold fest. If there are tiny crack in the grout, the water will get into the subflooring under the tile.

    • @le_th_
      @le_th_ 23 часа назад

      ANY mold is bad, not just black mold. He needs a professional mitigation team to come out and clean all that water out of his house.
      There are so many different types of mold, and within a few days (and he was in Malaysia for a few days when this was happening, so it's been several days now) mold levels can rise to an unhealthy level.
      Heck, penicillium can be invisible for weeks and be at over a million times the healthy level and never show any "color" on anything because it's simply in the air you're breathing.
      Breathing in mold will just make you sort of sleepy, at first. People who are allergic to Penicillin have to be especially careful, as it can cause an anaphylactic reaction. They might start wheezing, or their throat can slowly restrict over time until they can barely breathe. Different people respond differently.
