    I learned off you tube and have never taken a class or know anyone who knits. I’m doing good I learn from lots of people. Thank you for this video now I can block projects I have finished.

    Thanks I had no idea I should be using hot water to soak my garments before blocking. I’ll do that next time.

    thank you, this is super helpful! I knitted a hat with a gorgeous colour wool and my own winter pattern years back, but after machine wash (yes, rookie error!) I threw it away instead of felting it even more and using for something else. Lesson learnt :)

    I am fortunate to have a perfect blocking area....a pool table...it has a faux-leather cover, and it's a good height 😊

    Hi Claudia! I was wondering whether you ever have problems with dye running in the hot water. I recently blocked a red/green/white christmas (acrylic) sweater in warm water, and saw that the water was tinted pink. I panicked and took it out quickly before the white yarn could be stained. Now I’m about to finish a superwash merino sweater with white and dark colors and am nervous about staining. (The yarn’s washing instructions say not to use water above 20 degrees C, but I’ll go with your recommendation!)
    Thank you for all the amazing wisdom and tips you’ve shared! I discovered this channel a few days ago and am already seeing improvements in my knitting 😊

      If you are using a superwash wool, I don't think the temperature will make a big difference in the blocking so you can block at a lower temp as suggested. As far as color running, that's why I always make a swatch and block it before I start a project, then I know before hand if the colors are ok together.

    Thank you for all your videos they are all very informative to a new knitter like me. I live on a farm which has well water which is quite hard. Does this matter for blocking wool and other natural fibers? I know my hair doesnt like the hard water!

      I never really looked into it. I think it would be fine....

    Am I correct in assuming blocking is not just a one time process? You would use the same process after wearing the garmet to wash and dry it?

    • @cloknits
      @cloknits  6 месяцев назад +4

      Yes I always use the same process. I only wash my untreated wool sweaters once a year and give them the full spa treatment 😉

    Hi Clo,
    Can I knit the borders after blocking?
    Today I blocked for the first time and I am surprised, how well it turned out. I used many needles because it is a very fine linen silk type yarn . I only closed the shoulders....can I close every seem and block the finished sweater ?
    Have a nice 3. Advent and happy knitting 😊

      You can choose to block at any and every point of your work, but you will probably want to re-block after it's finished as well.

    Hi. Do you block each piece of a jumper before sewing in the ends and before making it up? Thanks.

      I don't but a lot of people do, really it's your preference.

    Hi Claudia! I live in Brazil so mostly knit or crochet with mercerized cotton or I'd melt in the heat 😂 Should these pieces be blocked as well?

    I block my knits all the time but I have never used hot water. What about colours running? Will vinegar stop that?

    • @cloknits
      @cloknits  Месяц назад +1

      I rarely have had color running but I don't think that vinegar will do much for it. If I were worried about a particular project I would buy color catcher sheets.

    Hi! I have a question about blocking. I just finished a tiny cardigan. Should I block first and then add the buttons or the other way around? And also, I used drops merino extra fine yarn for the cardigan and the washing instructions say to not soak. Does that mean I can't block it at all?

    • @cloknits
      @cloknits  7 месяцев назад +1

      I sincerely have no idea why it says not to soak. Maybe because of possible color bleeding? I would soak for 15 minutes like I do for all my knits.

    • @Qiwyn
      @Qiwyn 7 месяцев назад

      @@cloknits Thanks! But what do you think sewing on the buttons. Before blocking or is after blocking better? 😁

    • @cloknits
      @cloknits  7 месяцев назад +1

      @@Qiwyn I don't think it makes much of a difference. I would do what makes you the most motivated to put them on! I usually block first and then never put on the buttons cause i just wanna wear it! haha

    • @Qiwyn
      @Qiwyn 7 месяцев назад

      @@cloknits Okay, thanks! I was just thinking if the result is more even/precise when adding buttons after blocking. But if it works either way, that's good. I can block it now that the weather is fine and warm and leave the buttons for later. 😄
