I feel dumb now, I’ve been going out with a pole, like 5-10 flies that I’ve poorly tied myself from RUclips videos, and some tippet. Money is tight so getting into fly fishing wasn’t the best choice. But I sure am addicted. In due time I’ll get the right gear and see how much better I do out there.
A good summary of the essentials. Thanks!
My pleasure!
I would take the Pepsi challenge on that bag vs my cabelas bag any day of the week. And I’ve fly fished for 10 years.
Thanks for this Dan!! Great little intro video. 👌
My pleasure!
Thanks for the tour of your bag! I’m going to need some more items that are missing from my bag.
Glad it was helpful!
Just got my first fly set up. I am excited to get started.
Nice!
Good video and informative.
Glad it was helpful!
Great videos!
Thank you!
Thanks!
Thanks Mark for the Super Thanks! I appreciate it!
Zase jsi mě dostal pane, tomu se říká být připraven na ryby.😍😍😍👏👏👏👍👍👍🤗🤗🤗 Ale chybí tam ještě ta krabička s cigaras.🤠🤠🤠😁😁😁
I would add tippet rings. Makes those expensive tapered leaders last almost forever. I also use the old school vest. Not sure why those fell out of favor.
That's a great suggestion Mike - my thoughts are it's best practice to use a knot to tie leader to your tapered leader...tying the metal rings adds weight and a 'hinge' point to the middle of your leader which can negatively influence your presentation and cast - but you are correct...that would certainly be far more convenient. Also, once the main leader begins to get shorter and shorter...you lose the taper which helps roll over the fly after casting. I had a vest for years and recently picked up a sling pack - I found the vest tougher to access what you need (so many pockets!) and it pulled down on my shoulders causing back/neck pain. I can wear the sling pack all day and barely notice it's on. I use my gear bag as my 'home-base'...and use my sling pack loaded with the specific gear needed when hiking or fishing a river. If I am in a boat - I will have my gear bag and leave the sling pack at home.
Hello Captain Mike! I wanted to reach out to you and thank you for the comments on my recent video on the clinch knot. I also wanted to explain why I have deleted that video and thank you for the realization I experienced after doing a little self reflection of what this channel is dedicated to; teaching any new fly fisher the best way...and not let some of the bad habits I have picked up along the way influence my content. As my channel continues to grow, I have that responsibility - and I embrace that! I will be re-doing that video as it should have been (improved clinch knot) and posting in the coming weeks. I just wanted to say thank you for keeping me in check :)
@@FlyFishDan Thanks for reaching out. You are doing it right bro. I hope your channel grows and does well. I have a very distinct memory of my uncle teaching me both those knots when I was about 12. He was from another part of the country so I didn't see him much. Anyway, he started with the clinch and then showed me by one small step how it could be "improved" and made stronger. He died just a few years ago so a cherished memory. It would be fun to go fishing with you sometime. I'm a salt water specialist in NW WA and would be happy to take you. Maybe we could trade trips. All the best.
Capt. Mike Henderson very sorry to hear about that loss - and a great story, thank you. I am in! That would be awesome! It’s been fun growing the channel - a great positive distraction in a crazy world these days - big reason why I decided to start it up. Keep in touch and stay safe!
What model of Simms bag is that?
Advil is a must
Very true!
Why would you want to have multiple sizes of pre tied leaders?
Sometimes you have to vary the length and tippet strength during certain times of the year - so I make sure I am always stocked up. Cheers!
Totally unrelated question, haha. But may I ask what brand of button up shirt you're wearing, It looks great! Hopefully you won't have to slide through your closet, haha!
I am going to have a closer look - I thinks Simms…I’ll check and circle back :))
Where can I get a rod caddy like you use on your waistband
Check out the O'Pros rod holder - they are a great accessory!
Curious what orange dry fly box that was
That was a tacky box from Fishpond
@@FlyFishDan thats what i was afraid of 😂 they discontinued that box. Do you have a dry fly box youd recommend thats close to that?
Good video, I will say the music was super over powering, and I had to turn the volume pretty far down.
When you go through a walkthrough type video leave it silent in the background. Kinda hard to focus on your voice.
I would agree - this was one of my earlier videos...I have since learned a ton about stuff just like that!
I would add water. Lol. Especially if you have advil
Very good point :-)
Band-Aid
It might be my firewall settings but every link i click on gives me a security warning. "Warning: Potential Security Risk Ahead"
Yikes! I promise I am not trying to steal your identity!
Bug spray
I use the Thermacell - natural repellent without the chemicals on your skin. Check them out - much healthier alternative to bug spray.
@@FlyFishDan oh sweet I will check it out I was actually trying to find something like that I hate using bug spray and having it choke me or the smell sticking on me all day it sucks
@@alanluscombe8a553 I'm with you there - I was thrilled when my wife found these amazing devices. Works while fishing and around the campground. I keep it hooked at the top of my waders and keeps the bugs off - works awesome. :))
Toilet paper
Good call!
