  • This video is a Flo by Moen install which was supplied by my customer Mike. He, unfortunately, had a flood in his basement due to an automatic water feeder which failed to shut. There was extensive damage which caused mold and a complete tear out of his basement.
This video is about my installation in this particular setting which was somewhat unique because of the previous homeowners' crack at doing their own plumbing. (not recommended) Mike did his research and asked me to do the install which I was was happy to do.
This Flo by Moen Install was my first and this video is strictly about the installation. It does not cover the specific instructions or how to set up your new Flo by Moen. Enjoy the video!
    Regards,
    Bob.

Found your video while looking for reviews of the Flo. Your work is amazing. People complain about paying for tradesman but you clearly show why experience is worth the money.

It’s always a smart thing to do to put a bypass when you put in a automatic shut off in

Bob years ago I would get a Honeywell zone valve for hot water system that you use on hydronic Heating I put it in the main domestic water I would use a Alka-Seltzer in-between a clothespin and quit to wood screws in the clothespin when the Alka-Seltzer would melt energize the zone valve to close I made my own shut off being an electrician and doing boiler work with my uncle it was an invention we came out in the 1970

Do use the Map torch because of weight or did NYC rules make you retire the B tank? I enjoy the videos.

We can still use B tanks, I just like the smaller footprint of the disposables.

I was wondering about Ford written on what looks like a cutoff. Never saw those before. What are they and were they made by the Ford Motor co back in the day? I've seen ford written that way and just wondering. Bob love you informative vids .Thanks for showing install

That's why it's illegal in New York City I guess they don't use that much chlorine in the water in our drinking water

Can this system be used on a multi family unit??

    • @BobsPlumbingVideos
      @BobsPlumbingVideos  2 года назад +1

Yes it can, but I don't know if I would use it for rental properties. The system learns your water usage habits and adjusts things accordingly. Tenants generally aren't as concerned about leaking faucets or toilets, you might find yourself getting notifications on the app and the system shutting down more often than you might want. On the other hand, you'll know when excessive water usage is being used.

'Flo by Moen' has two devices: for 3/4" piping and for 1" piping, but not for 1/2" piping. Why didn't Moen make a 'smart-shut-off' for 1/2" piping, which is the most common system for older homes? Moen doesn't even mention using the 3/4" device, (with reducer fittings), for 1/2" systems.

Good question, I've personally have not seen anything smaller that 3/4" for a water main, but a couple of reducers will solve that issue. Thanks for commenting, Bob.

PEX pipe fills up bacteria inside of it because it is made of plastic the PEX pipe . wear copper does not like that happened as it's a precious metal sort of like when you have a bridge put in your mouth from a dentist bu silver inside of the bridge that covers the existing teeth because precious metals do not like bacteria grow

Doesn't the chlorine in NYC tap water take care of the bacteria issue?

@@BobsPlumbingVideos I'm curious why they wouldn't when people use it all over the country? I've also noticed they sell PEX supplies at Home Depot and Lowes. If it's illegal why are these stores selling the products?
      Love the videos as always!
