    I love your. Ideas thank you! I am having the hardest time with this, I’m new as of yesterday to hydro dipping. I sprayed my tumbler with white rust oleum and let it dry. I tried to dip it in rust oleum paint and it was a disaster, my paint clumped a lot. This morning I tried with alcohol inks and that wasn’t good either. What temp should my water be? Mine was cold but yesterday I added hot water and it was just mild. I’m so frustrated and lost here

    • @Luxinda
      @Luxinda  Год назад

      I have never tried to hydro dip with alcohol inks, and the one time I tried spray paint was a clumpy disaster. For me, the only product that works well are Marabu Easy Marble paints, which are designed specifically for hydro dipping. Even with them, I still have to work quickly and get the best results if I use clean water (meaning I dump the bucket and refill) each time.

    Ive yet to try marbling paints but just from your tutorials the Marabu brand definately gives a lot nicer result.

    • @Luxinda
      @Luxinda  4 года назад

      It certainly does for me, but other folks report the exact opposite, with the marabu paints causing trouble and the magics being much better. So it may be an individual preference. 🤷‍♀️
      Thank you for your comment! If you try either, let us know how it goes!

    I think the major difference with the Magic Marble brand is that it takes clear coat well. I’ve heard the Marabu stuff you can’t use a can of spray clear or it messes up. Just what I’ve read.

    • @Luxinda
      @Luxinda  2 года назад

      Thanks! I do seal the Marabu Easy Marble with clear spray before resin, but I don’t remember if I did with the Magic Marble or not.

    Does the paint go in the cup since your using your hand to
    Hold?

    • @Luxinda
      @Luxinda  4 месяца назад

      Yes, somewhat. I just clean it out later with acetone. Other people stuff a plastic bag into the cup or use painters or duct tape to try and keep the paint from getting in. Whatever works best.

    So the issue I seem to have is no matter how fast I put the paint in the water, when I try to swirl the colors around before I submerge my project, the paint clumps around my stick, leaving almost nothing on the surface. I've made sure my water is as close to room temperature as possible. Have I missed something?

    • @Luxinda
      @Luxinda  2 года назад +1

      No, you haven’t missed anything. It is an extremely short window of time, and even working quickly, I get clumps sticking to the stick. I try to pull that clump out of the way and stick it to the side of the container, then dip my cup where there aren’t any clumps. It’s a dance, for sure. I have had comments from folks suggesting that mixing in some borax (a laundry powder product available at Walmart, among other stores) will condition the water so the paint behaves better and you don’t need as much paint either. I haven’t tried it yet, so I don’t know if it helps or not. But it might be something worth trying.
      I do also have fewer clump issues if I use fresh water each couple dips. Makes it quite a chore, but the paints seem happier. Good luck!! Maybe others will chime in with ideas.

    Also, how do you keep the paint from attaching to the inside of the tumbler?

    • @Luxinda
      @Luxinda  2 года назад

      I don’t worry about that for the hydro dipping part. Some folks come up with various ways to avoid paint inside the cup by stuffing with a plastic bag or taping the inside rim, etc. But I just clean it all out after the cup is dry with some acetone on a paper towel.

    • @Luxinda
      @Luxinda  2 года назад +1

      Oh, I think hydro dipping looks wonderful over tack-it holo glitter in general! I’m sure color choice would matter, but the look is beautiful. Now that the weather’s being nice again, I need to do some tack-it cups!

    The neon colors are odd, I used them and there is not enough thinner in the neon colors it seems. Mixing them alot helps. I use a nail polish bottle shaker.

      Thank you!! Oh, wow that’s really odd. Can you describe exactly what you did to the tumbler before you dipped it? I’ll try to help if I can! I admit that after making this one comparison video, I’ve never used the Magic Marble paints again; I use only the Marabu Easy Marble paints, but that’s just personal preference - other folks feel the exact opposite and like the Magic Marble paints better.

      @@Luxinda I think it may be after painting it I didn't seal it . As soon as I put it in the water the paint just moves out the way. . I figured out the issue i had with easy marble it was the temp of the water, I had to use cold water . I got a really good cotton candy color .

    • @Luxinda

    Do you epoxy after dipping?

    • @Luxinda
      @Luxinda  2 года назад

      Yes, after the cup dries, I spray with a couple layers of clear spray paint (otherwise the resin won’t stick well and you’ll get divots or fish eyes), then cover with a layer of epoxy resin.

    Hey if you color code your paints from dark to light,not light to dark and use it in big circles and then swirl it it will turn out like your wanting it to,trial and error with this stuff,I know cause it took me awhile.keep painting chick

    I think what you do is beautiful ,however I think your using too much material.Expensive as it is you should conserve a little more.You don't need to use as much as your using.It will be cheaper also. I have hydro swirled guitars very nicely.I also don't see you using 20 mule team borax to condition the water.This allows you to use way less paint.Actually any oil based paint will work well in hydro swirling or dipping as they say.

    • @Luxinda
      @Luxinda  3 года назад

      I had no idea -- I've never heard of using borax to condition the water! Thank you for the advice!!!! Once the weather gets a little nicer, I'll go back out on the deck and try this out -- I would love to use less paint and make it go farther!
