Former Fort Worth officer Aaron Dean indicted on murder charge in shooting of Atatiana Jefferson

- A Tarrant County grand jury on Friday indicted former Fort Worth police officer Aaron Dean on a murder charge in the shooting death of Atatiana Jefferson, according to court records.
Dean, 35, is accused of fatally shooting Jefferson inside her mother’s home on Oct. 12 after a neighbor called a non-emergency line to report that the doors to the home were open and lights were on.
“Atatiana’s family is relived [sic] but remain cautious that a conviction and appropriate sentence is still a long way away,” Lee Merritt, an attorney for Jefferson’s family, said in a tweet. “Keep pushing.”
At a press conference Friday afternoon, Merritt said he hopes a special prosecutor with an unbiased approach is called in for the case. He also said drew comparisons to the sentencing of former Dallas police officer Amber Guyger.

It’s a trend that it’s growing everyday sadly.
We civilians want to trust and believe that law enforcement officials are working with the public and for the public, but there’s (a substantial amount of them) that are abusing and neglecting that trust. It’s time to evolve and leave behind racism, because there’s only one race, the human race, and erase the profiling, because with that mentality of the past won’t be possible to reach the next level in society. Hopefully law enforcement officials come to their senses and do rigorous background and psychological evaluations to new potential officers before sending them to the streets. We don’t need paranoid and clueless officers to serve and ending up doing something stupid because they were trained the wrong way or weren’t mentally fit for the job. We already know better than that, we’re not naive and most of us know that personal and hidden agendas are run off out of racial differences and stereotypes.
It’s time for transparency and stand by the real justice. Just to put an example, when a civilian touch a law enforcement officer it’s assault. But when a police officer try to detain an individual with no reasonable suspicion it’s lawful. Double standard it’s a norm these days. Guilty until proven innocent. And for you that give an officer the right to do wrong obviously thinks just like them. I hope one day a family member wont be subject of police brutality....

Everybody on here who are stupid enough to call everyone within a certain job description worthy of death, you are only showing your lack of intelligent thinking skills. You jump on a bandwagon of hate and revenge without caring about the backstory. This cop did not answer this call to murder someone. But he was VERY POORLY trained and not too smart. He went out there expecting a dangerous intruder. Why? Was it escalated thru dispatch to that level? He never used common sense to list in his head all the possibilities playing out in front of him. He did not identify himself properly, and he was too fearful as an individual personality to be sent out as a qualified police officer with a gun. So who is at fault? Everybody who works in the city? Everyone who worked on his shift? Everyone who trained this guy or everyone who hired him without screening for critical thinking skills in a high tension situation? Or is it the fault of a single guy who should not be wearing a badge? If you want to blame somebody, at least do better than this cop who took a “shotgun” approach and went after a threat that was never there.
