WILL PILOTS BE NEEDED IN THE FUTURE? AIRPLANES ARE NOW FLYING THEMSELVES!

Airbus has successfully performed the first fully automatic vision-based take-off using an Airbus Family test aircraft at Toulouse-Blagnac airport. The test crew comprising of two pilots, two flight test engineers and a test flight engineer took off initially at around 10:15 am on 18 December and conducted a total of 8 take-offs over a period of four and a half hours.
“The aircraft performed as expected during these milestone tests. While completing alignment on the runway, waiting for clearance from air traffic control, we engaged the auto-pilot,” said Airbus Test Pilot Captain Yann Beaufils. “We moved the throttle levers to the take-off setting and we monitored the aircraft. It started to move and accelerate automatically maintaining the runway centre line, at the exact rotation speed as entered in the system. The nose of the aircraft began to lift up automatically to take the expected take-off pitch value and a few seconds later we were airborne.”
Rather than relying on an Instrument Landing System (ILS), the existing ground equipment technology currently used by in-service passenger aircraft in airports around the world where the technology is present, this automatic take-off was enabled by image recognition technology installed directly on the aircraft.
Automatic take-off is an important milestone in Airbus’ Autonomous Taxi, Take-Off & Landing (ATTOL) project. Launched in June 2018, ATTOL is one of the technological flight demonstrators being tested by Airbus in order to understand the impact of autonomy on aircraft. The next steps in the project will see automatic vision-based taxi and landing sequences taking place by mid-2020.
Airbus’ mission is not to move ahead with autonomy as a target in itself, but instead to explore autonomous technologies alongside other innovations in areas such as materials, electrification and connectivity. By doing so, Airbus is able to analyse the potential of these technologies in addressing the key industrial challenges of tomorrow, including improving air traffic management, addressing pilot shortages and enhancing future operations. At the same time Airbus is leveraging these opportunities to further improve aircraft safety while ensuring today’s unprecedented levels are maintained.
For autonomous technologies to improve flight operations and overall aircraft performance, pilots will remain at the heart of operations. Autonomous technologies are paramount to supporting pilots, enabling them to focus less on aircraft operation and more on strategic decision-making and mission management.

People think that as automation increases, there is no need for pilots... But actually it's the other way around... As automation increases, the role of pilots also increases accordingly as now they have to be more cautious than ever

    • @anoopkumar8732
      @anoopkumar8732 4 года назад +5

you need more cautious but lesser pilots and why will they be paid as much as now? here, don't think of yourself as a pilot, thunk as a airline ceo, if you have purchased autopilot enabled planes and you still have to pay the equal amount to pilots, then why even will you purchase the planes? that is why, once the automation technology reaches a certain threshold value and clears the safety norms, airline owners will definitely start buying ATTOL enabled planes and then, very few pilots(only solo pilots) will be needed, because your job is just to check whether the systems are alright.
but global tourists are expected to rise so, yeah even in case of automation, planes are also projected to rise, so yeah pilots do seam to have a bright future.

Read my full comment till the last. Yes because Boeing Boy is against FB, he supports Air Asia. He also takes part in there marketing videos, so I dont expect him to post a video against his company, would you? The video where he talked about AA case is How dangerous are flap 3 landings. In that video he gave calculations that are for a normal day, he didnt talk about various factors such as bad weather, wind etc. He was very biased and even in his previous video on Air India crash (he was targeting FB, I have seen his chat messages talking bad about FB, they were leaked on someones Instagram story). Even on Instagram he posted a comment on a aviation page supporting flap 3 landing.
Flap 3 is safe like other flap settings, various factors need to be taken into account and 98% flap 3 policy is very stupid and if pilots dont achieve it they have been threatened that bonuses will cancelled and also they will be sent for retraining. Any pilot and aviation person knows what FB said was right. Also i dont know if you know bro, FB lawyer has pointed a number of Air Asia pilots to DGCA and has asked them to retrain those pilots, he specifically gave an example of Boeing Boy.

He was sucking Air Asia **** and is against FB (Gaurav) since day 1, so no point asking him. He cant do a video on a legal case against his own company also, then his job will be gone for sure and he has been pointed out to DGCA by FB lawyer too. So he will be either retrained or something will happen with him as the videos he did from promoting his flight academy, the flap 3 videos are misleading. So action will be taken against him ( i believe) too or he needs to come out and apologize.

It’s undeniable, there won’t be a need for a copilot. There will be automation and a human supervisor (for a time) which will decrease the need for pilots. It’s why it costs $60,000 + to learn. Which sucks, I have always loved the air and the sea, but scuba diving jobs are hard to find and flying jobs cost insane money to earn very little for the first few years. =(

Cruising with an autopilot is fine but atleast the beautiful Takeoffs, Landings and Taxi should be hands-on for the pilot! These are things where the pilot could show his skills and they are well trained for doing it safely. These are the things which in the first place bring the spark in a person to be a pilot! The fun of flying would be just lost with this advancement!Someday in future maybe pilots might monitor the commercial planes using a Tablet/PC/mobile (basically drones) just by sitting at home, but all that fun of layovers, travelling the world is gone. It will be no less than work from home people doing currently . Avaition is surely gonna benefit from this but the developers of this technology are gonna benefit majorly and maybe the engineers to maintain it! Role of pilot reduced. A day might come when even those developers and engineers won't be required. That career option is gone too! Basically it will be like the movie WALL-E. I hope the higher authorities keep the " Being Human" thing in mind and allow the usage of this technology in harsh conditions only.

Hello Tapesh and all my aviation enthusiast friends.... I have been thinking.. Do pilots feel familiar with the sky( or with anything like weather etc.) on their very frequent routes while cruising like we feel on road? 🤔

*Miracle of the Hudson is enough to show u that we need pilots in the cockpit*
If that event was completely handled by computers the outcome would have been very different...
*The most successful ditching in Aviation history* 🌺♥️
