A decade ago i was in such a state, losing the battle against a depression that was quickly becoming suicidal. It could have gone bad. Listening to this song actually gave me comfort back then, despite it being so bleak and melancholic. Started using opiates in hopes of death, and they actually cured me (go figure) when everything else failled. It was this combination of alternative music + alternative medication that rescued me from the claws of Hell.

Your comment is really old, but i know exactly what you feel. I lay in bed every night listening to their music. I can be content staring at a wall for an hour as long as there is Katatonia playing. Cant wait for the new album. I don't know where I'd be without Katatonia, the perfect band.
People talking about how underrated Katatonia is, but you know what? I prefer this way, because we are the few ones who really know... I don't want my favorite artists to turn into something boring and prefabricated like those popular bands (like the current Metallica). Sorry for the awful english, spanish is my language 😅
@harmony0404 you may think that because opeth tends to seperate their brutal metal from their progressive tranquil stuff. katatonia blends the two together. both bands have been influenced by the other. dont claim one is better if they're both great at what they do and do different things

I love Viva Emptiness but the chunky guitar riffs this album just hit home. This to me is their pinnacle album.

They pissed off a lot of metalheads when they changed their sound so unfortunately they get a lot of unwarranted hate.
They have a small but very solid fan base. They do deserve more recognition, though.
