Well here is the thing Larry the public really does not have access to it, this is private property and people do trespass. Yet most railroads don't really come down hard on this type of trespassing. However if you get injured while doing this you better keep quiet and not try to Sue, or the railroad will sue you first for trespassing!

The NYC subway did at one point have seating in a row like a regular railroad car, but that was back the first half of the 20th century. Once ridership increased, they realized they can cram more people into the cars by having benches facing inwards. I recommend a visit to the NYC transit museum if you ever have some spare time.

Hello, I'm a railfan. Here's a brief history of the Long Island Railroad's P-72 coaches:
Around 1955 the LI introduced these 2900 series conventional locomotive-hauled heavyweight commuter coaches for use on the Long Island Railroad System (looooong before the MTA). These would have been pulled by Alco PA-1s or EMD GP38s. Starting around the 1980s these coaches were phased out by the introduction of newer equipment, but not before many had their stripe lowered to match the M1 EMUs. Today these cars are all over the place, in weeds, in excursion service, as sandite gloop trains to provide adhesion in the fall when those darn leave keep falling on the track
These cars are in Port Jefferson Station, just a stones throw from their owner's establishment: the Oyster Bay Railroad Museum. These include 2909, 2935, 2956, 2966, and I'm too lazy to check the others. The OBRM's website has a bio on these cars: 2935 and 56 were built in 1955 and '56, with steam heat and batteries, later converted to generators in the 70s. 2956 has 123 seats and 2935 has 118 and a restroom. They are wearing the most recent paint scheme that the LI put them in.
As for the MP15ACs, LI 162, 169, and 170, those are just EMD MP15ACs. Go to Wikipedia and read it for yourself.

And to think that these railroad cars from the 90's that once carried passengers are just left to sit and deteriorate. Sad, but at the same time nostalgic, considering their service ended around the time Y2K was supposed the end the world.

This was not a "subway" car. At the end of the clip, you can plainly see that this is car 2966. This particular car and another P72, 2909 (presumably the other car in the video, although its number is never shown) were Long Island Railroad cars that were moved from the Morris Park Yard to the Arch Street Shop several months after this video was made in preparation for donation to the NY Transit Museum. As far as the locomotive, #162 was an E15 class, running 600 VDC Head-end power on the LIRR (i.e. towing unpowered cars such as the P72). At the time of the video, it was rotting in the "boneyard" section of Morris Park.
Cushioned seats like these would not last a week on a subway, and the way they were laid out (2 large seats on each side, plus a mini-seat in the middle), gave a 2 + 2½ arrangement, giving BOTH a dreaded mini-seat AND a dreaded middle seat.

Thanks for the work and upload, I am fascinated by this kind of stuff.
The bigger question I have is when did they put these cars into service to begin with. It would appear to be sometime in the mid-late 70s perhaps at the latest early 80s? Any idea? Usually there is a date of manufacture on these cars around the door areas. Thanks again.

NYC Public trains doesn't look like that @ all. Seating are fiberglass. Only two types of trains that looks similar like the one you shot in your video. NY LIRR or NY Path trains. Which is run by NYC Transit System. Highly suggeat you check out images of the type of NY trains they are. NY LIRR, NY PATH, NYCT

Man I remember those cars. I was a teenager in the 90's on long island. Several times a week we would take those to the mall, or Brooklyn, or Manhattan. Back then people would smoke blunts and drink 40's on the train and nobody would say a word. Graffiti crews would lace these cars up at night and within 48 hours they would have them clean.
*Also 9 times out of 10 we wouldn't even see the ticket collector, and not even have to pay to ride.

Definitely MTA equipment. Metro-North Railroad for the locomotives (SW type switchers, maybe SW1200 series) and Long Island Railroad for the commuter coaches. If you pause it at the 6:44 mark you can just see the “LONG ISLAND” lettering beneath the faded “M” logo. Okay, enough specifics from me sorry. Love your work and looking forward to seeing more hidden treasures you come across!

I also grew up at an elementary school with the colors blue and yellow and my family liked black and red the colors! Awesome share and sad to see the train was abandoned... my family for years and so many generations have been in the military and back years ago when the first railroads were created, my Pickett blood line worked on the East coast in the train industry....
