The new aircraft was designed at the VTI (Vojno Tehnički Institut - Military Technical Institute) in Belgrade, which had (and still owns) a wind tunnel for testing aerodynamics. SOKO is a factory that was supposed to carry out the production of aircraft on the basis of documentation made at VTI. The aircraft was designed to be powered by a Snecma M88Y engine (Y for Yugoslavia) with a four-channel control system, the most modern electronics of the time, in short, it would be a single-engine Rafale.
Let's say the MiG-29 that yugoslavia bought (14 of them) in 1987 was supposed to be a transitional period before the "new plane" flew, it was supposed to be at the beginning of 1991/92, a pilot cabin was made in the military technical institute, the plane would replace the existing MiG 21 and the rest would be for export!!
Novi Avion was not meant to be Rafale's Rival, it was actually meant to be made in partnership with France and it would have used the same engine as Rafale and probably some other parts. It would basically be a single engine Rafale, which would broth down the price of both aircraft. Yugoslavia would be selling this to nonaligned nations and France to western nations, win-win situation. Now days Novi Avion is distant dream, but both Serbia and Croatia (largest ex yugoslav nations) purchased Rafale jets for their respected air-forces.
There was a rumors that it was personal parthership, France airplane manufacturer partherchip with Serbian people in Yugoslavia, since owner (of) Dasault had Serbian wife, and hes father was a prisonier in WW2, suffering like Serbian people in both WW. That is what our ex pilots involved in hapenings sugesting. Im lasy to check on wikipedia it is is true of false, and i believe more to people who participate in planing of NA, than wikipedia.
@@CroArmyNikRus86 It's the most capable of the Euro canards. No European manufacturer comes close to Dassault. When you look at a Rafale you're looking at the result of 60 years manufacturing multirole fighters.

The least that Yugoslavia should have received with this aircraft is the aircraft itself, much more than the aircraft is a completely new technology in the military industrial sector of Yugoslavia because all the factories in Yugoslavia were owned by the state, which means that everything would have been produced in Yugoslavia, which would mean that completely new machines and tools had to be made, and therefore Yugoslavia would produce literally everything from radar to air defense systems to the Yugoslavian Air Defense Systems. Rocket. And it should have been clear enough that it was the only When the state manages its enterprises, progress is possible for everyone and that neoliberal capitalism is just a deception of a group of owners of big capital who could not cope with state capitalism on their own and that is why they financed the disintegration of Yugoslavia.

Another excellent job as always! Thank you sir!
Respect from Croatia!
The irony is that both Serbia and Croatia have both signed up for the Rafale. Twelve each.
Croatia already has 6, Serbia will get 12. Good planes but not that good for the money given.

Looks the same size as Lavi or a bit smaller than Gripen. May be the same as Korean T-50.
