In October 2016, the well-known Shia lecturer and academic, Dr. Ammar Nakshawani, delivered his controversial Night 6 Muharram lecture, entitled: "Radical Islam" - in which he very rightly described the two tyrants (and historical "Sunni" caliphs), Abu Bakr and Umar, as "terrorists", and exposed the two to be the ideological source, and founding fathers, of today's terrorism in the name of Islam that we see around us.
This lecture led to a major backlash from our opposing sect, namely those who call themselves, "Ahlus-Sunnah Wal-Jama'ah". One debater and cleric of theirs, Sheikh Asrar Rashid (of the Ashari Maturidi Sufi creed, who belongs to the Barelwi sect), issued a debate challenge to Dr. Ammar (on the content of his lecture), but was ignored. Sheikh Asrar then extended his challenge to all UK-based Shia clerics, and (in November 2016) organised an event in his Mosque in Birmingham, for which he openly invited the Shia of the UK to turn up and proceed from there.
Asrar Rashid was shocked to see that a large group of about 50-60 Shia brothers, from London and around the UK, had come together and attended his gathering. The large group comprised of several Shia scholars, as well as respected students of the Hawza (Islamic seminary). On the day, we attended and selected our representative, Sayed Ali Imami, to sit at the stage, and present our debate conditions, set forth by the debater we had decided to put forward: our teacher, Sheikh Abu Zaynab Al-Haeri (may Allah protect him), an Usuli Twelver Shia scholar, who has studied in the Middle East. The Sheikh is a skilled debater, an expert in Ilm Al-Hadith (the Science of Hadith), and is fluent in English and Arabic. We were treated with great manners and much respect on the day, by Sheikh Asrar and his community, and it was truly a great sign that the Shia and its counterpart have the capability to peacefully sit together, in a civilised manner, and openly discuss our key doctrinal differences, no matter how sensitive or controversial they may be. Sayed Ali Imami, as well as Sayed Hassan Bokhari and Brother Hassan Al-Qadri, were later invited into a private room to further discuss who we are, who we represent, and who we were putting forward for the debate. We left that day having agreed to stay in contact with Sheikh Asrar's representative, in order to finalise the details, and arrange the debate at a later date. But although Asrar had promised a debate, nothing of the sort came into fruition. Even his own followers were disappointed that he did not keep his word. Back-and-forth social media posts, from Asrar Rashid's official page and members of the Shia community, seemed to all be in futility.
And so, in January 2017, the Rafida took it on themselves to organise a similar event, in Slough, and decided to invite Sheikh Asrar to attend and reopen the door for debate. The event was publicised by the Shia, on social media, and details were sent to Asrar Rashid himself. Conveniently, Asrar had managed to organise a last-minute event of his own, on the very same day - avoiding our invitation, and failing to even send a representative on his behalf.
In our open-door event in Slough, Sayed Ali Al-Shobayri, Brother Hassan Al-Qadri, Sayed Ali Imami, and Sayed Hassan Bokhari discussed the background of the debate challenge, and proposed ways in which we can go forward.
When Sheikh Asrar Rashid invited the Shia to his Mosque, like lions we came to him. But now, it seems that Asrar is nowhere to be found. We want him to come forward. If not him, then anyone else of the "Sunni" sect. Sheikh Asrar Rashid. Sheikh Murtaza Khan. Sheikh Mumtaz Ul-Haq. Asim Hussain. Adnan Rashid. Ustadh Abdul-Rahman Hassan. Abu Taymiyyah Jeylaani. Or anyone else who comes forward. Our open debate challenge on the topic of the Adalah (Justice) of the Sahaba still stands.

Following the Britwell Centre event in January, we are indeed extremely disappointed that Sheikh Asrar Rashid has not gathered the courage to deliver on the Shia-"Sunni" debate, which he, himself, initiated.
After seeing that the Shia community in the UK were so quick to accept his debate challenge, it seems as though he has retracted his challenge, and has deleted all social media posts regarding the debate.
Some have been saying - particularly from Asrar Rashid's side - that a debate with the Barelwi (Sufi-"Sunni") community would not be wise, as it would further tensions between the two groups, when in reality, the real division is between the Shia and Salafi communities. To those, we say: yes, the division between the Shia and the Salafis may be more so apparent, however this does not change the fact that ideologically, all "Sunni" Muslims oppose and reject Shia Islam, and vice versa.
This debate between the Shia and Barelwi communities could have been that debate which demonstrated to the entire Muslim and non-Muslim world, that the two opposing Islamic sects were willing to peacefully sit down and discuss key issues of difference, no matter how sensitive they may be - all in a civilised and scholarly manner. We could have proven to the world that the historic Shia-"Sunni" split, the bloodshed in the Middle East, and all other external factors would not hinder us, here in the UK, from organising an academic debate between the two sides.
Unfortunately, to the disappointment of even his own followers, Asrar Rashid is yet to publicly respond.

Salaam alaykum, i hope everyone is having a wonderful month of Ramadhan, Insha'Allah. I just wanted to offer some comments on Asrar Rashid not being able to attend the debate. First of all ,please forgive me if there is any information i am ignorant of. But it seems that the reasons for why Asrar Rashid did not attend is unknown, therefore, it is unfair to assume and assert reasons for why he did not attend, especially without him being present to defend himself, as shouldn't a believing brother be given 70 doubts? Also, as he is not there to defend himself, we must be careful what we say is not to backbiting. We represent the school of the Ahlul bayt (as) and therefore must have the akhlaq of the Ahlul bayt (as) that means the best of morals, Insha'Allah. I only mean to offer this advice (which honestly i need more than anyone need to adhere to) so all representatives of the Shia school of thought may represent, in a form most pleasing to Allah (SWT) Insha'Allah and in line with Allah(SWT) command, Insha'Allah. May Allah (SWT) bless you all. Please forgive me if i have said anything wrong.
Pure Endeavours What you have stated is completely normal and infact beautiful. I adore the message that Rafida.org is sending. However I did feel that there was some sort of unintended disrespect. Although they did stress that fact that if Asar Rashid had showed up they would treat him with utmost respect, that shouldn't be a justification to treat him with unkind words if he doesn't show up. No matter the cowardice, we should be better. After all, Prophet Muhammad would visit the sick person who constantly threw feces at his doorway.

Honestly I don’t have a problem with the Sunni brothers accepting our perspective as valid. No Sunni is going to convert to Shia islam or vice versa. Our goal is to live together in peace, which is impossible when they call us Kaffirs and even wish death upon us.

Just to make it clear, what you are doing is very good. The way you are making your challenges and words you are using are not good at all. Debating the differences is beneficial for every Muslim and non-Muslim alike, but talking like this about someone else will only induce negative feelings towards the Shia of Amir al Mumineen.

They obviously took this agenda soon after as an advantage quite sadly as the sunni party honestly had tried to organise it and was not shy about it even offered to do it at a secret location but the police would step in. This case is not similar like that of Mohammed Hijab's because the exact same thing of these Rafida shias did likewise of Asrar Rashid bringing a bunch of people threatening Murtaza Khan at his speech. Which is why the police got involved. You viewers should really know and understand how your being deceived to, just find the back story of this and everything comes clear.
