That's one of the most wonderful things about Pizza Tower. Even though the concept is so absurd and simple, solid execution made it compelling. A game doesn't have to have a deep narrative or nuanced theming to "get" someone. By being an interactive medium that unites the disciplines of visual art, sound design, music, etc, a game can fire on so many cylinders. It doesn't have to be smart. It just has to be cohesive!
Basically pizza tower is what most games should be, just balls to the wall fun
Honestly I'm impressed by how likeable the game made it's characters despite them pretty much never speaking. It's been a while since I rooted for a protagonist this much.

The fact that they use Marching sounds, gunshots, whistles and distant explosions in the song just encapsulates the fact that this stage is just flat out an active warzone.

Deltarune as much as I love it, will mostly catch people by enormous surprise with 3 possible bosses and more

I like how the crescendo uses Wario Land 4 Hurry Up!!! "bloops" just to add a little more psychological panic to the people familiar with this kind of game.
this song perfectly encapsulates how gritty this level is, it really doesnt pull any punches. you can hear the sheer desperation in this song, whether it being peppino trying to atleast make it through the level or it being the tower's last defense, yet there's still a bit of triumph and melancholy as progress through the song. wonderful

fun fact, it doesn't switch to the lap 2 theme when you do lap 2 in this level

Come to think about it, maybe that's why Poncle scoured the music scene to find Daniele Zandara and Filippo Vicarrelli for the Vampire Survivors OST.
I may have to keep an ear out to see if this trend continues.
You know, I have to admit, I don't think I gave this track much thought when I played it in game... probably because I was fighting for my lift against the timer. But Holy Hell, this is probably the hardest this OST has gone (at least up to this point, which is already near the end of the game)!

@@Hieropink In august of 2022, McPig tweeted that Peppino can't play TF2 because it "Hits a bit too close to home" alongside a doodle of him remembering his own wartime ventures. I don't want to blatantly say that it WASN'T nixed after that point, but I can't find anything following that.
I've seen this level called the second easiest to get a P rank on, right behind the first level. this is the last level before the final boss
edit: oh yeah, i forgot to add that he absolutely needs to do Tropical Crust and Extraterrestrial Wahwahs at some point
that's because the level itself already requires such strict timing and is therefore so straightforward that getting a P rank doesn't require much more than the level already asks of you to complete it
i personally think the crumbling tower of pizza might be the easiest P rank. It was my first p rank ever too, as all it requires is a full combo, not secrets or treasures
Because while it's not EASY, its straightforward. Everything is out in the open; you just can't slow down.

Pizza Tower has at least something for everyone. I may not want to play it, but its entertaining to watch played with high skill, and the OST'S KICK ASS.

Quite frankly, it's probably gonna have to compete with Armored Core 6, but the sheer juxtaposition of funny pizza game vs gritty mech game would be absurdly hilarious.

I was going to find out when he streams next so I could recommend this one. This is one of my favorite songs from this game.
I also love how there's a leitmotif of a train through this song. (at least from what I hear. The whistle, some of the rhythmic beats, etc allude to that) Just signals the pain train's a comin'!

You cant hear it here for most of the song due to the drum cover but... That marching at the end... Was through the whole song. The 'snare' percussion hear along with the base drum is the sound of boots marching

Funny gimmick for "War": Shotgun. Instead of a grab and body slam, you shoot the guy with a gun. But now you have a ticking time bomb. Shoot PCs with clock icons to get 20 extra seconds. (You start with a full minute, remember that every 60 seconds, a minute passes). I think it also allows to get the pizza time collectibles (clocks for 10 points and bells for 100 points). Note: unlike pizza time, the bomb ticks down during secrets.

this level is a personal attack against Peppino and his trauma. in Fanon he's a war vet (although the devs say otherwise) so I theorize that Pizzahead set this up RIGHT near the final boss gate to threaten Peppino, like, "do you really want to have that happen again, huh???" along those lines.
