I agree that those are one of the best eating fish around and loads of fun to catch. That is a beautiful area your fishing, the scenery is amazing.

Next time you’re out on a good sacalait bite, you need to try fishing them with a tube or hair jig 1.5-2’ under a small cork. The bait stays in the strike zone much longer and it allows you to fish closer to the structure/cover they love to hang onto. This technique is extremely effective when they are up on the cypress during the spawn, it’s almost like small scale trout fishing with a popping cork. Tight lines Todd

I’ve always kinda though of sacalait as a the specks of freshwater twitching a 2 1/4in monkey milk soft plastic under a cork is unmatched

Here's a technique i use to help reduce thoughs snags, after i find the approximate depth they are biting at i use a slip bobber and fish the same way with a pause here/there, somes i use 2-3" bait and there is times i down size below 2"

Great technique. I will surely try this, but with specks or flounder, since I never fish freshwater. I cook with tallow a lot, but clarified butter also has a high smoke point and it's easy to make it yourself. Or you can buy some in most grocery stores. Been a subscriber from day one after reading all your articles in the NOLA Times-Picayune.

This works great for specks. I haven't attempted this with ghee, but I'm sure it would work well.

Tiny jigs and lures drug across the bottom or just off the bottom is how I fish 95% of the time. I love catching whatever bites, and that technique is super successful for me. Great recipe, too. I can almost taste how well those pecans played with the vanilla porter in the batter/breading.

It looks like you are throwing a lot of 3 inch baits instead of 2 inch baits. It seems to be doing well there in Louisiana.
I'm from Commie California and we don't have the Back Waters Swamps like you have.
Looks like perfect Crappie Water. I hope no Gators take your Catch. That would be Scary. 🐊
