You just SAVED my butt... I have an RT1 that had a broken kick start pawl stop in the case. The only case I could find was for a newer 72 mine was a 70. They improved the 72 with a stronger stop and a larger transmission bearing. All other part numbers are the same. I can shift from 1-4 easy but no 5th unless I wiggle it... NOW it makes sense I have new cases that are out of adjustment from the old parts!!! THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It was driving me nuts... so third time removing the clutch cover and I will get it right now!!!! You are the MASTER!!! I can shift really nicely with the drum moving with a screwdriver just not with the shifter all assembled... all makes sense now! I thought I assembled the tranny wrong Yet i know I had this perfect and the shift forks were all perfect.
Thanks Jim, yes, it is challenging for sure to find the right ones. I end up making a lot of them, if you have the paper bound parts book it will tell you the exact size of most of them.
Thanks Vincent, that sounds like a great project bike. I will be getting back on the 250MX build pretty soon. Getting ready to fabricate a clutch actuator and case saver for the engine. Still need to finish up the rear wheel and make it a roller. Best of luck with your project.
Never knew my Yamaha parts book I have had the bearing and seal sizes.A great Help as have sourced these From Simply bearings website in the UK much cheaper than Yamaha and the same Koyo bearings but so much cheaper
Love your videos, and appreciate them very much. i wish i had your talents. do you have any videos of putting the transmission together for a 75 dt400. iam having some difficulties. the bike is all done except the motor. every time i put it together i cannot get the transmission to shift. i have a manual and iam doing what it says, not that much. and everything looks correct. it was a basket case so i don't have a good reference. i have split the cases now 4 times, tomorrow will be the 5th. iam able to shift the gears with out the cases together and they seem correct but it is very difficult to turn i have to use pliers. any insight would be super appreciated
Hi James, I am sorry you are having such a time with your engine, I have been there myself. I really don't have much experience with bikes over 1973. So, I am not familiar with your model. But I will say this, if it is shifting before the cases are put together, you are probably experiencing a problem with gears or washers stacked wrong or in the wrong place, or a bearing not seated completely. When the cases are merged something is binding. Sorry I can be more help; I sure appreciate you stopping by the channel.
I ll try to get that sent out this week. We have been crazy busy lately. It will come. Thanks for all you do brother. I know it makes it ten times harder to work on them when you have to worry about the camera. We do appreciate you. See you on the next.
Not sure the 75 DT125 is a little out of what I work with. But I think the cases are the same as the 73 down. So, you should be able to do the 74/75 Yamaha 125 YZ conversion I did in the playlist I did on the 125 MX. ruclips.net/p/PLQyl8BUThyaKwnivQkRAQLh5HBsK4Aki4

Looking good!! Learned spring clips can have a rounded and square side. As always, thanks for sharing your knowledge.
