      Just an idea, you could also flatten the tip of the of the nail file slightly to make it compatible with screws on glasses.
      Though of course that's covered in the cork/small screwdriver adapter. But you could place something else there if you flattened the tip possibly.

      @@RyderDK very good idea!

    • @frankysour
      @frankysour 2 года назад +2

      @@RyderDK i would never do that to my sportsman! 😁 Actually agreat idea, but... Would lose one killer feature, the tip of the nail file fits perfectly Phillips screw size 00, 0, and 1. The tip of the can opener as known fits the bigger sizes, aside from small flat heads, adding the capability of the large flathead on the caplifter and a mini in the corkscrew makes the sportsman an extremely complete set of screwdrivers fornita size

    I’ve had one in my pocket since 1985 and it sees daily use. A friend bought it for me in Saudi Arabia so it didn’t have the shield and cross but instead a globe with Mecca at the center. Sadly, when Victorinox replaced the scales after about 10 years they didn’t replace them with those.

    I have come to really like the one and two layer 84 mm knives. Most of what you need, in a reasonable size for light to medium cutting jobs, none of the bulk of the 3 or 5 layer knives. Now, if they could do a 2 layer 84 mm knife with a scissors, we might really have the perfect EDC.

    Of course it doesn't need a small blade. The "large" blade is already "small" enough. haha. Anyway, I also sharpen the tip of my cadet nail file. So, FYI, you're the main source of my sak "fix". Good job👍

  • @pauperrim8946
    @pauperrim8946 4 года назад +1

    I think you made a really good point!
    After trying many similar models, I think the sportsman is the one that better suits my day to day needs. I mainly use it for small cutting tasks and unscrewing stuff. Being such a compact option I don't need a second blade, and the tip of the nail file is useful on smallish phillips. For bigger phillips/smaller flatheads there is the can opener, and the bottle opener for bigger flatheads. So I don't need the phillips on the back and I can go for the corkscrew, and its main use is to carry the mini flathead. Anyone who wears glasses should appreciate this small attachment! (no more refiling the tip of your blade haha)
    Oh, and I have the nylon scales, and I always saw off the keyring loop (it bothers me, I carry my 84's on my coin pocket).
    Cheers!

    I have a few SAKs that I love. I’ve had the sportsman the longest. As my nails are always short and clean anyway, I took the nail file to my grinder and made a secondary blade. It’s actually pretty good for whittling green wood as well. Great all-around little EDC.

    • @frankysour
      @frankysour 2 года назад

      Great mod! I thought about that mainly to have a opener for boxes and those (damn) formed plastic retail packages, but I am reluctant to knifefy :) the nail file for 2 reasons... 1, I use it quite a bit and would become dangerous, 2, i use it a lot also as small Phillips screwdriver and I would ruin the edge anyway, plus sharpening could make it weaker.
      Instead, I was thinking of sharpening (and most probably give it a negative angle) the internal "hook" of the can opener, not touching the round already a bit sharp part that makes the best prying tool for small precise tasks, like with electronic devices

    I just picked up one of these a few weeks ago, and it does seem to offer all the utility of a Spartan as a more pocket friendly size. As to whether I will carry this one the most, that is tough to say, as I also recently bought a Cadet Alox and a Waiter. But that said, those are my top 3 EDC pocket carry knives. I also carry an executive on my keychain all the time.

      Exactly, I would love a sportsman with scissors (y). Or a climber with a nail file (I rarely use the small blade on my camper). I don't like a shape of an Evo 14. There's also a mountaineer to consider but It's too large for being EDC imo. Classic SD is almost perfect for edc but I hate being the guy who has a SAK in his pocket and is unable to open a bottle of wine when needed :D
