Grameen Foundation's Community Agent Network (CAN) in the Philippines has reached millions of low-income and poor clients with financial services. Community Agents, 75% of them female, are the heart of the breakthrough approach to expanding financial inclusion. Learn about the program and hear from the agents in this short video.
    Brief on CAN:
Over 30 months, Grameen Foundation USA (GFUSA) seeks to build a shared, last mile agent network in the underserved and unserved areas in the Philippines equipped with a mobile- enabled, interoperable payments platform. The program is called Community Agent Network (CAN). CAN aims to enable sari-sari stores, small neighborhood retail stores owned and operated mostly by women from their homes, to serve their barangays (village/suburban neighborhood) as last mile agents with the capability of electronically processing a range of financial services, including savings, credit and retail payments.

Grameen Foundation helps the world's poorest -- especially women -- improve their lives and escape poverty by providing them with access to appropriate financial services, life-changing information and unique income-generating opportunities.
We do this by helping microfinance institutions and other poverty-focused organizations become more effective and efficient, enabling them to reach more poor people with financial services, such as small loans and microsavings. We help these organizations find financing, and provide products and services that enable them to measure their results and better understand their customers.
Working with local and global allies, and the poor themselves, we also create mobile phone-based solutions that address the devastating effects of "information poverty." We help the poor to better manage their health, their crops and their finances, enabling them to improve their lives and break the cycle of poverty for themselves and their families.
