- I try to rattle through and deal with various complaints about my channel, and then I make my BIG ANNOUNCEMENT.
For details of the BIG PROJECT, visit www.lloydianasp....
www.LloydianAspects.co.uk
This is years later: oh dear, the Stoke Mandeville project stalled after three episodes, for the simple reason that the special effects were taking me three months per episode to do. I genuinely hope that I will somehow work out a way to finish it. Paying people to do the post-production for me does not seem to be practical. The videos do not get many views, and the vast number of skilled hours required to do the effects would cost a fortune. One day, though - fingers crossed.
Don't you think it would be great idea to post first of Stoke's episode on your Facebook page at 4th July, to celebrate anniversary? Also, new subscribers will see the post and watch these three episodes. Maybe you can even make a short video about it, tell us what there is to know about this great astronaut and gentleman?
More episodes binge watching all your videos and I'm running out
Please do continue the series!
Steampunk has really taken off, to the point that the most popular feature of a Medieval Festival were the Steampunk related stalls... You can do it!
I would like more but I understand what you mean
I demand more Stoke Mandeville! I think of it as "Dr. Who" meets "Flash Gordon", meets Monty Python, with a dash of Francophobia, and a healthy dose of British wit and ingenuity.
95% of filming finished. Now the post-prod slog. I was filming about 10 minutes of material a day. I am editing the actor footage at about two minutes per long day. Yesterday I finished work at 8.30 p.m. and did the effects work on one shot, and it looks rubbish. Today was more productive. I've just finished at 6.15 p.m. and did five shots. Next week: recording the music.
The big limitation I see with the project is that if I and my opponent are swinging non-existent swords in thin air, what do I feel if he puts his virtual sword in the virtual space that I am trying to swing through? There is no feedback to me of the physical movements made by my foe, and without that, I see no sword-play simulator.
All these years later and you still only have over 5000 subscribers.
1k is 1 thousand. 5k is 5 thousand. He now has 563k.
Despite my delicate sensibilities, I too demand more Stoke Mandeville!
hear, hear
@zeretex Because now I have this new approach: the video version. Long bitter experience has made it clear to me that unless I can achieve some sort of fame first, no one in telly is ever going to pay me any attention, no matter how excellent anything I submit may be. In eight years of constant plugging away, no one at the Beeb ever watched my Built for the Stone Age pilot. If my name had been David Jason...
@GreenEyedSerb From the web-page about the world: "Society flourished as never before, and in due course, nations all round the globe implored the British to allow them to join The Empire. Once certain minimum standards of cutlery use and self-deprecation had been met, they were admitted, until the entire globe basked under one flag, and was happy."
@thor654 No - never heard of it. When we did a theatre run in Edinburgh, reviews said that we had ripped off various things that we had never seen, which is odd, given that the script openly acknowledges our main influences.
Lindy I just wanted to tell you that I love your channel. I just recently discovered it and it's one of the highlights of my day. Keep it up!!!
-ACW.
@legendsofgrine I hadn't thought about making it pay-per-view, so I suppose that it will be free. Its main purpose is to promote the script, so I just want as many people to see it as possible.
@bronzedivision Yes, that was one inspiring influence, even though I never player the game - I just flicked through the rulebook once. See if you can spot the other influences...
2:42 "And the overwhelming --response was silence, I suppose. Most people don't respond."
Audible laughter was produced. There's always moments like these in your videos where I get an unexpected chuckle. I've tried showing your videos to my friends but they just sit stone-faced. I don't know what it is some sort of comedy dog-whistle but I love it.
@v94j Sorry about that - current plan is to shoot 4:3. It does make things a lot easier. For a start, it means I can shoot using a smaller green screen. In terms of look, it will be a bit amateurish. With my budget, this can't be helped.
Watching this in 2024. Quite the trip to watch. Congrats on the 5,000 subscribers; 12 years late and over a million subscribers later. Cheers!
@thecutthatneverheals An alternative present. Who is clamouring to leave it? Certainly not the Falkland islanders.
What I absolutely love about your channel, is that I can expect a response to any questions I have. Glad to see you're keeping it the way it is, really.
Some swearing I let through, but occasionally a comments really is just a stream of filth. Some spam gets through. As for flaming, 'tain't whacha do, it's the way that you do it.
I have to say, this is the most entertaining message to subscribers I have ever watched. Sincerely, thank you for putting effort into this.
Also, I am much more excited about this web series than I am about most. I can't wait!
@antpop1 With only Frenchmen to deal with, it's usually enough to use the stem of one's pipe. It's just a matter of applying oneself.
@chashavko Today, the British produce far more types of cheese than the French, and even the French grudgingly admit that Stilton is good. In the Renaissance period, the most expensive cheeses for sale in places like Venice were British.
Thanks for taking the time to explain your absence. I also wish to say that while I started watching your weapon video's your Herrang video's were a intriguing look into the lindy hopper culture, which I had never heard of before finding you. My only regret that I cannot be in your video production as I live in Canada.
It will be interesting to see your future videos. Thanks for sharing, Roosevelt
@AlexMarkivich If you're serious about someone, you can show commitment with marriage, but if you're really serious, nothing beats a joint mortgage.
@lindybeige Ofc its not gona be hollywood standard but stuff like the rigth aspect ratio and 720p resolution would make it much easyer to watch...
I love almost all the videos you have made. I particularly like your free script style; where, you go on camera without a script, and tell us what you think. Keep it up please!
I already can't wait to see that, the premise is excellent!
5k subscribers??? You got 900k now. You come along way man 👏👏👏
I'm still in eager anticipation for this, and was very careful to set my time scale expectations to a realistic level: a project like this tends to get wildly out of hand, even for a sensible and organised fellow such as yourself. How are things going? Are we approaching the terrifying and time-consuming editing stage, or still somewhere in the relatively fun filming area?
Can't wait for that feature film. I never before thought that it would be so nice to live in Newcastle.
@Caradepato2 The rest of the world clamoured to join, after seeing what could be achieved with the latest advances in etiquette.
I'll need your assistance with this... First insert (here) the highest and most flattering compliment on your video work and its witty content that you can imagine. Secondly, insert (here) a statement that would make you absolutely certain that the complement was sincere. Then insert (here) your modest reply. No, no, Old Chap, you deserve it!
im really exited about this whole steampunk thing, (btw, i have that exact same breathing mask, except without the paint-job
i would also like to say i do miss the "a point about [insert medieval thing]" and i would like to ad that i am now starting historical fencing lessons, so, those videos will come in handy
cheers and the best of lucks with your project
good luck with the big, I'm looking forward to seeing what you have in store for us.
@elementalterror Thank you. I fear that distance may rule you out.
Stoke Mandeville is going to be a real hit. All of my friends love your videos! I await the hat-wearing, green screening, British Empire adventure saga with bated breath!
It's funny to hear him say how he has over 5k subscribers. 6 years later and it's over 500k. Nicely done, sir
Still over 5000.
710,000
850 000
this ages like fine wine. chillin at 1.06 mil
@MiniMackeroni Good. Couple more to come, and then that series will be finished.
@skolvold Yes, well, I'm sure you are right.
"Perhaps a toddler fell on the keyboard". That was just hilarious! :D
@dragos98 At least one airship, and astral carriages too!
Wow, I tell you what... make this guy PM because he actually gets a point well made and he super awesome! Loyal Subscriber forever!!!
@Earthenfist That's great. Right now, I don't know exactly what I need designing. E-mail me directly about this, please.
Agree with your reasoning 100%.
Nice to see something so well run, and great production, thankyou.
Enjoy all your vids, and I dont really mind your random posting schedule, the content you provide is awsome, and well worth the wait
I have just stumbled across your channel sir, and I very much approve. Keep up the splendid work.
OH i found a rare video
Sorry about the axes.
Stoke is a great series. You have amazing talent my friend.
The the Adventures of Stoke Mandeville are astounding funny, you missed out, Jimmy Savetheill, the mystery trolley pusher. I'll be happy to write him in for you
Even your house keeping videos are entertaining. I liked your comment guidelines your quiet a gentleman Lindy
@godofimagination Conquered? Why would anyone want to conquer France?
Dont forget to get the aspect ratio rigth for youtube later. This one isent realy there, the black bars isent much of a problem but it does look abit un professional...
I loved your dancing videos, so cool to know that it exists and I want to go! I like all your stuff keep it up.
Looking forward to it.
marvelous
we just love to see your shining face ranting about things of any sort
A steampunk comedy, this should be great. Looking forward to it. As an aside, I subscribed for the historical videos, but have also found many of the dancing videos fairly amusing and informative. While I don't enjoy them as much as the historical ones, I am not going to bitch about them and I feel it is pretty silly for anyone to do so.
@MrCattlehunter Don't be ridiculous. Pull yourself together.
I do like that you have to approve comments because that makes you far more likely to see what I wrote rather than it being largely ignored on a video more than a few days old because people understandably only check their most recent video or 2.
And one channel is preferred by me because I've just been watching the uploaded videos playlist and if you had separate channels for dancing and history things, I probably would have ignored those channels entirely instead of being exposed to them out of laziness. My computer is hooked to the tv and I just let the playlist play while sitting on the couch. Get up and skip to a video more relevant to my interests? Nonsense. I will watch the ~5 minute video about something I know next to nothing about and then learn about it instead.
+SuperLoopholes guy, this video is 3 years old (2 for you back in the day), nobody cares -_-
I've loved your channel and videos for a some while and you seriously need to do this exact video again.
Ps. More ancient and medieval stuff please.
Brilliant! Stoke Mandeville, Genleman and Adventurer! Or was it the other way around...
IN any regards, I'd be willing to do any 3D modeling you might be needing for naught, if you're interested. I imagine you'll need things such as backgrounds and starships that might be a tad difficult to imagine on-set.
@lindybeige I must admit that an increase in etiguette would be a welcome change. By the way, recently read your article "Why vegetarians should be forcefed lard", and i think you hit the nail on the head there. With some exeptions, of course.
Lindybeige, i really love all your content, you are a true expert on what you call 'the human condition'. Keep enjoying your life an observing the nonsense around you!
You in no way needed to explain yourself, Lindybeige. But I am happy to see something from you again and I enjoyed hearing about some of your future projects. I disagree with you on a few of your role-playing views and I find myself sometimes feeling more or less attacked when you comment on religion, but that doesn't stop me from loving your channel. I myself subscribed after the various points about slings! I love that all ancient warfare stuff and find you well learned and well spoken.
I love your videos but you should do an update to this video you now in 2015 may 4 th 100000 plus subscribers now that's something to be proud of.
Generally I tune in for the vids on weapons. Have no problem with the other videos, it's your channel to do what you want with it. Looking forward to the movie! Cheers!
How on earth did I find this? xD
lindybeige is love. lindybeige is life
LUCK!
Did youtube recommend it to you?
This is the first comment in 6 months. the sixth in 2 years. you now have 1.2M subscribers.
A strange video to start with, but thanks!
@MrDeverill Hello Mr Deverill.
I've always liked your vids, who cares what they're about. Hell, if you wanted to make a series of vids about the ups and downs of cardigan wearing I'd probably watch them too. Keep up the good work man and I'm looking forwards to your movie.
That sounds hilarious, I can't wait for it, I like the premise. If your production for whatever bizzare reason ever takes you to Toronto Canada I'll help you out, cool? Cool.
Just keep on keepin on sir. Great stuff all around.
"It does involve the wearing of rather a lot of hats"
I didn't know this was a Team Fortress 2 channel!
Thanks, but all shot now. Doing post-prod.
I think the song by The Vestibules, "Bulbous Bouffant" mentions spatula. A woody sort of word!
@zoomraker Only if you can prove that you have paid. Did you keep the receipt?
Yeeeeesssssssss! Can't wait for this.
Those dastardly French ! Stoke Mandeville will not be defeated
You know when I heard of your video idea, it reminds me that I need to get back to playing Arcanium.
BWAHAHAHAHAHAHA! Eagerly awaiting what sounds like an awesome movie. If I could bend space-time to get back and forth from Newcastle from my cosy home here in Sweden to attend your filming, I would. ^_^
I did subscribe to your channel for your mediæval weaponry videos but have enjoyed pretty much everything you put out; I guess it's just your good presentation and delivery.
"I don't think I'll keep this video posted up for very long. After a couple of weeks it might become a bit of an embarrassment" Yet here we are 6 years later ahaha
I don't care what the videos are about, as long as I have a regular dosage of Lindybeige. I should mention (i) again, as I have nearly completed watching all you videos and have to face the eventuality of not having any more of them.
only 50 times that number now
Oh yeah, on the eclecticism of your channel, I have ZERO interest in dancing or anything dance related, but I watched and enjoyed all your resent Herräng vids. Thanks for a peek into that world!
That sounds hilarious, can't wait for it!
1.1 million subscribers now.
While this is very very late, I also like one channel for everything.
Scripted is also good. I am excited to see it. I love all your stuff from dancing to axes!
I love your new sweater. And i would love to see more of your vids but we all have lives so there you go lol And you had me at steam punk comedy XD cant wait to see it
good luck with the project !
YES! MANDEVILLE! FINALLY! EXCELLENT!
i would like too see more about your medievial videos, those are nice
Ohh...can't wait for this. I love steam punk stuff.
Sounds like a great project.
I hope it goes well. Entire solar-system under the British empire would suggest that they finally have colonized something, yes?
Anyway, looking foward to it.
Just keep doing what you do.
I hope that one of the french antagonists will be reminiscent of that one scene in monty python and the holy grail.
I subscribe for the interesting man. The interesting videos are a side effect of that. An entirely pleasurable side effect, as well.
While I disagree with you on some points, particularly on climate change I'm glad you did not censor comments that disagree with you. Your reasons for having the settings as you are a shame, but reasonable.
Although I came here for your videos about history and warfare, I found most of your dance videos very entertaining (especially the swing moves video).
I hope you make more videos with some kind of regularity but if not, I enjoy the ones you do.
It sounds like quit the project indeed. Yes, I too subscribeded for your weapons videos but I do enjoy most the videos. Did I check out the dance videos? No, not really but I certainly wasn't bothered by them after all it is your channel.
One thing I would like to see more of are videos about role playing games. I enjoy them a lot and would like to see more. Obviously though your plate is very full.
Hope you have fun on your new project.
