i ate like this as a teenager while my parents (who belong to the top 5%) ate fish and salad and steak. I was a vegan for a total of three years till I got brainwashed by the healthcare industry- where my coworkers would accuse vegan parents of neglecting their children (used to be a nurse, gave it up though). My bloodwork was and still is in amazing condition. I was and still am effortlessly slim bc I eat majority this way (plant based). After experiencing homelessness twice once quitting nursing, and only making 800 monthly right before that- I knew exactly how to stretch my dollar. I appreciate the recipes! I never was one to be creative as you are with your recipes- but I can see it makes the entire process of cooking and eating and cleaning so much more fun. Gonna try the oatmeal pancakes!
I've been a vegan for 5 years now and I can tell you that all of the foods that this video listed I eat on weekly basis and my yearly blood tests always came out fantastic. I do however and supplement with a vitamin D and zinc.
Thank you for putting all this information in such a short video. It’s really positive stuff like this that needs to go out to more and more people, as much of an eye opener as a guiding light in the chaos that the world has become. Well done and keep up the good work 👍
Thank you Katie for the video. I am not vegan but I like to eat a healthy balance meal. I love beans and rice , it was a staple growing up in a Hispanic home.
all of your recipes and ideas are so good and healthy. I like watching your videos-but I do love dairy, red meat and eggs. I can't imagine life without a burger or meatloaf. I wish I could eat more healthy. I do try and limit consumption of less healthy foods. God bless your family :)
I also use these staples. One recipe that combines 3 of these staples are oatmeal, peanut butter and banana cookies and I add a little salt, maybe cinnamon and raisins.
I added up our grocery spending for April and it was just over $1,000 😭 that’s for a family of 5, but one is only 10 months old. I need to work on brining that down to closer to half.
I love your videos. The information is always so useful and well explained. I also like you're a quiet person and that you don't try to be funny. Just natural. ❤
This is packed full of helpful information- you listed the same foods that are my "go to" staples and I just learned a lot more about them from this post- Thanks!
Excellent list . If these things go in the trolley first , then we only need to buy produce and flavourings to make beautiful meals . There is an abundance of recipes for everyone's tastes/food needs online . Great video ❤❤❤
I am a huge fan of grounding! When my middle kiddo was little (3-7 yrs old), she would tell me the only thing that made her feel better when she was sick was laying face-down in the yard. This was before I had ever heard of grounding. It totally makes sense now lol.
@@raisingwildflowers I think this reply was meant for someone else ? Lol. 🥰 I totally agree that time immersed in nature and in contact with soil for feet and our hands in it , has huge benefits. Maybe even more so for kids that have any diagnosis, like mine. Besides I feel at my best when I'm dirty at the end of a day in the garden . 💚💚
Hahaha! Yes, that was suppose to be a response to someone else! And on a different video. I have no idea what glitch YT had lol. But at least you resonated with it too!
A very good video! You've really done a lot of work putting this together. I can't eat legumes or bananas (potent migraine triggers), alas. I eat eggs and dairy products, and have found that I really do need to eat meat as I need the haem iron.
George Washington Carver said that if you just eat sweet potatoes and peanuts, you have all the nutrients and calories you need. . I don't like peanut butter anymore but I love dry roasted unsalted peanuts. I love sweet potatoes.
My favorite breakfast is 1/4-1/2 cup Cottage Cheese , 1/2 Banana, 1/2 of an Avocado, a good dollap of any Salsa though I prefer Black Bean Salsa, and a 1/4 teaspoon of Smooth Peanut Butter mixed together. That and a cup of coffee with Soy Milk keep me full for hours. Maybe not the least expensive breakfast but my nutritionist agreed is packed with protein, fruit, vitamins and minerals. This is a staple breakfast for me. I do like Oatmeal with fruit and keep it in my prepping pantry. I love it with PB and Banana.
Not sure what peanut butter is like in the US but in Australia all the cheaper brands of peanut butter have salt and sugar added. Some even have vegetable oil. I only buy fresh peanut butter that is made at the health food shop while I wait. It's definitely not cheap (about $8 a jar) but absolutely worth it.
A few in my family don't love lentils but enjoy them with loads of flavour added. Have you tried making lentil pate ? Fantastic quick lunch on a favourite bread and add lettuce etc or use like dip with crackers. Yummy ❤
Thank you for sharing all this great information! These are foods we all love but it is in being creative to find ways to use them and make many different things. These 7 foods are full of vitamins as well. The recipes you shared look delicious! I will be trying them out! Great video!
Thank you ❤ your recipes and advice are always amazing! Made some Moroccan chickpea and lentil soup from one of your videos today and it was so so delicious! Husband and kid approved 😂
I try to buy bananas all the time. They are wonderful snacks. I take them to work with me. I keep snacks with me when I work court. Sometimes I have to go to lunch late. I'm usually the last one to leave. I keep most things on your list. I like rice with butter. It is good
Katie, the more I watch your channel, I swear we are the exact same person. I base nearly all of our meals on these same items every day. I even do the Once A Week Cooking for my meal preps. Very often, my meals dinners are thrown together with a "Hmmm, what's in the pantry to add to these pinto beans and rice" creativity.
I love it! You know, some of my favorite meals have come from a place of "crap, I think we are out of food" or "man, I REALLY don't want to go to the grocery store" lol.
Over the years, I have learned to accept that I am laaaazy. My favorite way to eat potatoes: microwave some mixed frozen veggies (I use Costco carrot, broccoli, cauliflower), Instantpot potatoes, add that to the bowl and mash/cut a little, ground flaxseed or hemp hearts, and a little of my favorite current sauce (atm it's Costco's no dairy buffalo sauce). Delicious! And eating a 50/50 plate (50% non starchy veggies, 50% starch-potatoes, McDougall's maximum weightloss) has helped me lose weight even while I'm full! 😍
I just found your channel. I just had my third and been looking for healthy foods to always have on hand for a family of 5. I really like your videos so I subscribed! We’re kinda tight with money so this helps so much
This video was super helpful! I’m still a newby to Plant base, so I’ll be looking up those recipes, you listed below! I have the potato candy recipe too. It’s my grandmas recipe. She lived through the Great Depression Era too. It’s really good!😊 I have the same staples. Was wondering about pasta as a staple. Do you eat pasta? Thank you so much for this video! I love your super helpful channel! 💜🌻💜🌻💜🌻
I know this video is a month old but I know you also breastfeed, I’m a breastmilk mom and also nursing my toddler..trying to wean him but what do you eat to make sure you’re getting what you need as a person PLUS what you need for the milk to keep coming? I have a family of 5 also and things have been really hard recently so I’m trying to do what I can as a sahm to do more for saving
For breastfeeding, my staples have been oatmeal, peanut butter, and bananas. I make a delicious breakfast with these 3 ingredients every morning! (Plus a bit of cinnamon.) And they are super cheap so I eat about 2 servings lol. I also add 1 extra snack in throughout the day in addition to what I make for the rest of the family. Something that is pretty high in calories, like avocado toast or even just a banana with peanut butter. I haven't had an issue with my milk supply and am still about 20lbs over my pre-pregnancy weight so ... its working? And, of course, drinking lots of water.
No vitamins - we are able to get everything we need from our food :) The only "supplement" I make sure we are getting is B12. Which we get through fortified nutritional yeast: amzn.to/3Gkstvq
Save Money On Groceries by NOT BUYING These Items! ruclips.net/video/nNaNqxJr8to/видео.html
You can also make banana milk with bananas. Banana and water in the blender. It’s great in cereal.
1.oats
2. Banana
3. Peanut butter
4. Beans ( pinto, white, black, soy)
5. Rice
6. Lentils
7. Potatoes
I’m a registered dietitian and I approve this message😂❤
I have severe gastroparesis and can't eat most of these foods. Which is really frustrating because of the fiber.I have to be on low fiber and low fat.
Thank you!

Love all these foods.💖

Eating more fruits and vegetables has helped me from consuming processed snacks all day.
Do you like gingerbread? I make really yummy slow cooker gingerbread oats.
Oh, that sounds delicious! We would definitely love that!
Recipe please!!

Oh, that sounds delicious. I have this combo for my breakfast oatmeal every morning, but I should definitely make it into some cookies!
I added up our grocery spending for April and it was just over $1,000 😭 that’s for a family of 5, but one is only 10 months old. I need to work on brining that down to closer to half.
I like to buy tomato sauce and make own my marinara sauce. Then I make a lot of the meat sauce and then freeze the other half for another meal.
I’m a meat eater but the food you’re showing me looks so delicious 😋😋😋😋
I love your videos. The information is always so useful and well explained. I also like you're a quiet person and that you don't try to be funny. Just natural. ❤
Will your family have a garden? To combat inflation.
Thankyou Great info - you're very smart! You have a new subscriber.
Great video--your list of staples gave me a lot to think about. Great examples on how to use each one as well. Appreciate your channel!
Wow thankyou for this

You eat well for someone on a low budget. The only thing is I find is that I would prefer more variety with the veg and fruit
A very good video! You've really done a lot of work putting this together.

Great video.
You put a lot of thought into your videos. I appreciate all the recipes. Our staple list is the same! Love your channel.

Lots of great healthy foods.
Sweet potatoes can also substitute for the dairy and oil in cakes
Yes! We have made some delicious sweet potato pancakes before!
Great video. Sound advice!♥️🇨🇦
I make black bean quesadillas by mixing black beans (mash them some), frozen corn kernels, cheese and Mexican spices. So good and filling.
Yum! Sounds delicious and super affordable!!
Yummy with some fresh salsa or guacamole omg
I love overnight oats. Great list ,it mirrors my own.

Great info. Taco filling is good, on potatoes also.
Oh that sounds like a great idea! I also love potatoes in tacos/burritos!

It's the same here in the US. Natural peanut butter is around $8-$9 a jar
I really need to get more serious about lentils. I Love PB and oatmeal. You put out great vids!
Thank you 😊

I love your channel! It’s been helping me and my family so much! ❤️ luv from CA!
Yay! I'm so glad! 😊
Eating 5 ingredient black bean burgers as I watch you! I use "sweet simple vegan" recipe .
I LOVE black bean burgers! Our kids aren’t fans so it has become mine and Asher’s date night meal 😂❤️

I love your videos❤❤❤❤❤❤thank you 🙏
👍👍👍
As an Asian I eat rice almost everyday. But so far I havent seen you cooking with rice
💛😊
Have you seen the price of oatmeal???
It has definitely gone up! But is still just $4/week for my entire family. Cheaper than most other breakfast options.

No vitamins - we are able to get everything we need from our food :) The only "supplement" I make sure we are getting is B12. Which we get through fortified nutritional yeast: amzn.to/3Gkstvq
Did you always like lentils
