Who is here in 2024? I grew up with this song and BST in the early 70's and it's still one of my favorite songs! He had such swagger and even though not 'traditional ' lead singer looks, I think he was sexy AF!
I'm here in 2024.
Me too!
Yup
I'm hereeee today is 23 march 2024 😂
me! grew up loving this song but not knowing the band, despite having a very knowledgeable dad, and then learned about Go Down Gambling from the show “Preacher” and now I collect BS&T vinyl.
My father hated anything to do with Rock n Roll, but he loved this band because of the brass. He was a trombone player. RIP Dad.
My Dad liked big band music too
I feel you. My grandma sung this song and it made me like it. Rip grandma
Might I Suggest the Squirrel Nut Zippers?!?
Or Cake the Band....
ChiCago....
is that it has a fusion of Psychedelic Rock jazz and big band, and to top it off a circus band,....
Oh Yeah!!!!!!! Got this Album hanging on my Wall!!!!! I'm 70 still Rock n Roll!!!!!!
Born in Summer '66 .. one of the first songs I ever remember hearing ... what an amazing voice Thanks for posting !
Yep!
Yeah, sure.
born August 23, 1966
One of the most iconic voices in rock.
he wrote this song
Exactly, and I’ve known that voice for some 55 years now without ever seeing his face before!
@@pattyayers Me too. I'm watching this because I wanted to see what he looked like.
@@pennpal62 🙌❤️his voice!
In 69 when I first heard this, I could not get enough. That was am on the radio...
Sounded great on a 4 channel 8 track.
David Clayton-Thomas actually looks happy to be singing this song. It's so great!
Maybe because he wrote it.
Nobody, but nobody could sound like David Clayton Thomas! Another unmistakable voice, like John Kay of Steppenwolf!
Both Canadians
Just about everyone who's tried singing rock or rhythm and blues wishes they could get that tone, soul, grit and magic. D.C.T. seemed to express it all without effort. What a voice.
One of the greatest voices of all-time.
Really? 🤣 I love his style ❤
It's Christmas, and my 83-year old mom is visiting. We love music, so I'm showing her incredible archive of music available on RUclips, because she is entirely unaware of this. In the early 70s my parents liked Blood, Sweat & Tears - so I've shown her this, and she's in absolute heaven, as am I! What wonderful memories! Thank you SO MUCH for posting!
This is so cool
Love it!
This music was after her time your parents stayed hip to the music.
Hi Nature if you don't mind me asking how is your Mom doing?
Va fan så jävla bra from Swedish to English this is so dam Good! From a swede
David Clayton Thomas IMO has the finest, most underappreciated voices in '60s- 70's rock.
Bill Thehat they weren’t seen as counter culture enough. They played on a State Department sponsored tour in Eastern Europe, which at the time was poorly regarded by the young of America They did it in exchange for the lead singer needed some visa problems cleared up, he is Canadien/British.
They also did a sort of residency at Caesars Palace in Vegas. Again, though they were connected to the popular rock bands of the era, this was not looked at positively by the young rock fans at the time.
I can’t say I blame them for doing either. It’s always nice to have a get out of jail card and a steady gig with steady pay for musicians of the era was a luxury back then.
@@chrisconley8583 They were cooler than cool and more talented than most “acceptable”young bands. 👍🏼
@@iluvpepi David Clayton Thomas' voice sure beats Jim Morrison or Bruce Springsteen.
Loved his voice along with John Kay.
reminds me of Tom Jones in this video ;-)
I used to listen to this song with my father while we traveled on Jericho turnpike in Huntington Station, Long Island, New York on our way to visit my grandmother who lived in Brooklyn, New York. Those were the greatest days of my childhood. All of my family is gone now, and I am so grateful for the memories.
Here's to the ones that we've got.
My 3Yr old Granddaughters love this song, as soon as they hear the first few notes, they start dancing!
I saw them live in 1970, and they played a bit over 2 hours and played 7 tunes. Seven. Smiling Phases by itself ran nearly 45 minutes. This was a band whose core was studio jazz musicians, and they were capable of the most amazing improvisations I've ever seen.
Rebel Tuba I wish I would have seen it but I was a little kid.
So jelly
Back when bands had REAL musicians, unlike the dumbdowned fools of today.
@@Johngonefishin HOW TRUE !!
Here I am reading your comment from New York City Thursday March 28th 3:45 in the morning. in the 70s was real music not like today it's crazy
I saw them live in 1969 from about 20 feet away, at the Marjorie Merriweather Post Pavilion in Columbia, MD - two nights in a row. I lived 20 minutes from the venue, it was summer, and we managed to get some tickets. Great concert - at the end of the 2nd night, they said that that was their last performance on their tour and were going on hiatus for a while, so they thought they'd jam for a while. After about an extra hour of concert, they finally broke for the night. It was wonderful. One of my favorite groups of the late 1960s.
My neighbors favourite song wether he likes it or not
Love it, lmao
I / hear\ that! 😆)LOL
Is your neighbor cranking the volume up? Lol
Haha!
Hey Bro, what dou you mean Your Neighbors?
One of the most unique voices in modern music in my opinion.
Just love how so many of the rock bands of the 60s and 70s mixed jazz with their music!
The horns and the odd meter part- that’s not allowed now!
we don't give a damn about any trumpet playing bands....it ain't what they call rock and roll. - dire straits
Our high school dorm attended a fabulous Blood Sweat and Tears concert in Munich, Germany in 1969. We were thrilled. A classmate took wonderful photos, enlarged them in his darkroom and sold them for a dollar each. I bought a few. Wonderful times!
This is one of the most amazing bass lines in all of music. It carries the entire piece. Love this band, this is an incredible album, too.
One of the best bands in the 70s. Oh, how I miss those days!
What's a "painted pony" mean?
@@mccauleyprop The horse on a Merry-Go-Round.
@@grayboo212 Thanks!
They seemed to be more in the 1960s.
Born in early sixties i've never stopped listening to AM radio when driving , because of songs like these, for that feeling of distance especially at night between you and the station fading in and out, don't care about the audio quality, am mono and all the dirtyness that comes in with AM. A particular feel for what others ears can't tolerate is a symphony to me.
When I was a little kid my older brother had a record player and a collection of maybe 10 or 15 singles and a couple of k-tel albums. This was one of them. He played it over and over. Luckily, it was a great song.
This reminds me of cinnamon toast for breakfast before elementary school in 1970 and AM radio
I used to listen to this when it was on the radio in the early seventies, but I never knew what they looked like. GREAT band.
first record i ever bought in 1969 what a classic song. To this day i still love it. What a unique sound and brillant vocals
me too. and I still got the record.
One song that brings back childhood memories
I loved this song as a kid. I used to listen to it over and over. I was like 4 so I thought it was about a merry go round. This is back when musicians looked like plumbers and repair man. Just normal Joes making tunes.
Arcana7609 my sister loved this song too and she was 4. Maybe she thought the same thing now that you mention it!! Lol!!
I'm a normal fuck-machine man.
Arcana7609 Me too..lol
Same here. Loved this tune as a kid. Something magical about it.
there were plenty of musicians during this time and throughout history who dressed weird or didn't look like an average joe, there are also musicians today who don't wear weird or eccentric clothes and look like average joes
Damn, Blood Sweat & Tears were FONKY!!! Master musicians playing outside the box, David Clayton Thomas' soulful & melodic growling, and those horns that penetrate your soul! I have this on CD, cassette, AND 8-Track! (My dad's) The soundtrack of my youth is unsurpassed by anything since!
#Salute
What no Vinyl! This new vinyl thing just might catch on..
Bobby Colomby was a bad ass! So was Jim Fielder!
What a rhythm section! Just everything! Steve Katz and them rocking' horns!
Real. Miss it.
+JW GT Bobby Colomby is awesome. I listen to jazz and Big Band because of this record which I listened to everyday for about a year when I was 9.
Just heard this for the first time. Made me feel like a teenager from the 70s. OBSESSED! This is total greatness and I'm thankful to have stumbled across such history in music.
The lead singer is working it!!! You go, David Clayton-Thomas!!! #teamClayton-Thomas!! This is how they did it back in the day.
Drop all your troubles by the riverside....
This guys voice is great
I remember hearing this song on the radio as a child when we lived in Central Florida either in 1969 or 1970. I still love this song and always will!
That groove during the guitar solo... Great drums and bass
It's so refreshing to see an actual *live* performance from this era. Usually I can only find miming to studio tracks when I look up 60s/early 70s "live" videos (for the most part).
A great band and killer vocalist! I once did the back line amps and drums for them at an outdoor gig in Chicago and Mr.Thomas was a very sweet guy. He treated me like a member of the band.We played Frisbee and had a couple of drinks before the show. Thanks for the memories.
I remember walking down Yonge Street, in Toronto, in the late 60s, seeing a sign outsside of a club saying David Clayton Thomas and the Shades. Well before BS&T.
Blood Sweat and Tears was a group that when it came on the radio you cranked it up. And it's time Blood Sweat and Tears was one of the greatest artists that hit the stage. They put the word concert in concert. Well over 4 hours. This era turned out the greatest music ever heard there was nothing like the 60s. The Sounds will never be duplicated again. I know I lived it. 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏😘
I loved this song my friend and I came up with a little dance.
I remember hearing this when I was very young in the 1970's. Damn, brings back weird feelings and memories.
Same here!! Born in 1970!!
Sooooo much soul in his voice
Fantastic performance! 👏🏼 RIP keyboardist Dick Halligan. 🙏🏼
takes me back to my earliest memories.
"Spinning Wheel" Lyrics...
What goes up, must come down
Spinning wheel got to go round
Talkin' 'bout your troubles, it's a cryin' sin
Ride a painted pony, let the spinning wheel spin
You got no money and you, you got no home
Spinning wheel, all alone
Talkin' 'bout your troubles and you, you never learn
Ride a painted pony, let the spinning wheel turn
Did you find a directing sign on the straight and narrow highway?
Would you mind a reflecting sign?
Just let it shine within your mind
And show you the colors that are real
Someone is waiting just for you
Spinning wheel spinning through
Drop all your troubles by the riverside
Catch a painted pony on the spinning wheel ride
Ha!
Someone's waiting just for you
Spinning wheel spinning through
Drop all your troubles by the riverside
Ride a painted pony, let the spinning wheel fly
This was one of my dads favourite songs.
He is no longer with us now, I miss him...
Gracias for the Lyrics, your dad knew great music, I'm very sure he is watching out for you & your family, Merry Christmas 🎅🤶
Blood Sweat And Tears!!! Mr. Thomas was blessed with a soulful, beautiful, ability to sing!!! This Band had one of the Tightest, Funkiest, horn sections !!! Overall, Blood Sweat And Tears was Great Band!!! Their Music Is Funky as Hell!!! I grew up listening to their beautiful Music!! Peace to all of you who listen to Blood Sweat And Tears!!! Talk about a "Rare" bird right there, he can boil water with that voice, the whole band was phenomenal! ;-)
NICE!!! Great video, good looking lead singer has a amazing rare southerny nice voice, love this song and I've always loved Blood Sweat&Tears 🎷🎶🎺🎶👍👍
david clayton thomas has that cool "leather" look like Elvis . I think he's an underrated singer/front man with a cool ass voice
Truly an excellent song. I enjoyed this one and another by them.
the lead vocalist is still with us, he is 82
Geez, I remember when this came out! Loved the song!
I still love it as much as I did in 1969. Blood, Sweat and Tears what a band, still amazing! David Clayon-Thomas what a voice. I am so glad that I can hear it (and see it) at RUclips om my iMac.
That build up from 1:02 through to 1:30 is beautiful - gives you shivers :)
Such a great song.
I love the horns in this....
Time for going home this piece played around 6 pm every day home time am radio n stingray bikes.
Wow! The clarity of this video is insane! It looks like it was on TV this year, not in 1969! I wish more videos from the 60's & 70's were like this...but not all, because some are just too cool the way they are...but the crystal clearness sure is awesome (if that makes sense lol). Love it!

Blood Sweat & Tears! This is a perfect song, definitely in my top 10 favorite songs of all time. David Clayton-Thomas had an amazing, unique voice and the band is fantastic! This has got to the best live performance of the this song hands down.
Priceless memories.
Missing the amazing double time solo by Lew Solof! I know this was for TV, but that's the best part of the song!
R.I.P. Lew!
Bought this album and still have it. Great song compositions that endure.
Ahhh the 70's when you could be a "band geek" and still be in a rock band. :)
I was in elementary school when this was popular. So, there was a big brass bands and songs movement around this time? BS&T, Chicago, Ides of March, Bitch by Rolling Stones, etc. Pretty cool stuff.
Great voice, great song
Came across this amazing band whilst living in New Jersey 1970. I miss this sound. Tremendous band.
Always loved this tune. Great song!
Always loved David Clayton Thomas's voice. Sends shivers up my spine, even still!
Awesome bass playing.
Yup, I remember this song- used to hear it all the time at my first job, a discount retail store on Long Island. Always found it catchy, easy to listen to- only recently discovered these here on YT; I'd forgotten about them til that point. Glad I found them!
David Clayton-Thomas. What a great voice!
I was 5, my brother was 17 who played this on his 8 track as he drove me around in his 68 Firebird. When my dad caught me singing all the lyrics...wow did my brother get in trouble :)
Epic, great music, fantastic voice, wonderful lyrics. Thanks.
i only heard the shirley bassey version before i love her
but its good to see/hear the original
thank you for posting it
David Clayton-Thomas Had (Has) Some Of The Best Vocals Out there!
so funny - I've been hearing his voice for decades - but thx to youtube can see him perform. What a talent.
he's still performing! fantastic.
Great song 😁brings back memory's of my Dad.
Mine too.... he played this song all the time and I hated it. Now that he’s gone I’m really starting to appreciate the music he listened to. The stones, led zeppelun, Jimi Hendrix, cream, Allman Bros. When I hear them I think of him and old times
Such great feel, when bands had breath.
A good oldie. One of my favorites.
a true mixture between 60 and 70.
One of the greatest band names ever.
Good band too.
what a singer DCT is fantastic and the whole band are brilliant 10/10
BST was an innovator, they influenced Chicago and Steely Dan.
Same time as Chicago, different influences. CTA and Child is Father to the Man came out the same year.
William Flanagan Same producer as well? Guercio?
Mom was influenced as well.
I’m here. I loved BS&T back in the late 60s, early 70s.
You could not escape this song at the time
Brilliant. This song is a timeless classic. Stuck in my mind for decades.
One of the greatest voices of the rock era.
I Remember that in My Home we had this Song in a 45 RPM Record as Kids The Song was Cool back in the day 😁😁
A big great classic, that few others musicians know how to reinterpretate 🎶🎤🎸🎹🎺🎷🥁😉
Outstanding. I remember this song from my childhood. Could David Clayton-Thomas ever sing...so effortless. Cheers from Ottawa, Canada🍁
I wanted to find BTS's Blood Sweat and Tears piano cover, and this is where I ended up :D

I wrote songs back in the early seventies for many bands....Mostly because I loved your album...:-). Thank you...:-)

rocklandrez It was epic!! The musicianship on this song is off the charts!!!
Awesome! 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
Awesome trumpet, great lip!
This 8-track tape was one of about 25 that my parents played continuously throughout my childhood in the 70's. Lots of memories.
