Nvidia doesn't care purely because an AMD RX 570 is the same price as a Nvidia GTX 1060, an AMD RX 580 is the same price as a Nvidia GTX 1070, a AMD Vega is more expensive than a Nvidia GTX 1080 Ti and in all cases Nvidia out performs in gaming and mining except for the Vega being good at only one type of crypto mining and using too much power to be more profitable than a 1080 at anything else. AMD is now pumping out GPUs the same price of Nvidia cards that out perform, AMD has never been as weak as it's been in the market and AMD cannot control retail prices, Nvidia knows this and they're taking advantage.
Whether you like it or not Nvidia is far better than AMD. In my case money isn't an issue so I will always go with the highest single core GPU (now it's the Tis as Titans not worth it). The only reason someone would get an AMD is if he believes that in a certain game 10 FPS more isn't worth $200 more. That could be understandable but when you run max settings in 4K that extra 10FPS helps the smoothness. AMD is so weak that it actually hurts us Nvidia boys. Nvidia has no reason to improve too much. They do like the pole vaulter Sergey Bubka did. Just improve very minimally your product to just surpass your competitor and your previous line. No need to unleash the whole fury when competition is so weak.
Really doesn't matter if a lower TDP is more advantageous for some users, if they want to release a low TDP card they should brand it as such... GT1030LE or something like that. The problem is that they're trying to pull a fast one by pushing out a card that's cheaper to produce (DDR4 is surely cheaper than GDDR5) and has lower performance under the same branding as the higher performing card. Really infuriating and inexcusable.
That's not always true. At least the 980 TI and 1080 TI used a different chip then the 980 (source: www.anandtech.com/show/9306/the-nvidia-geforce-gtx-980-ti-review www.anandtech.com/show/11180/the-nvidia-geforce-gtx-1080-ti-review ). I don't so much have a problem there, as the TI version came out later and with both being halo products hopefully less people will be duped. Also businesses will say/do anything. Not using LE in the name won't stop them. Though I do agree I think calling it a 1029 (or similar) would be better.
nanobug I'm not as much into computers as you, but with prices with mining is so high, mediocre gamers (who wants to play overwatch, but with like medium settings, WoW or LoL) and just want something discrete but not the newest card.
It is not a card nvidia is selling to gamers but enabled it for board-partners. The GPU is still the same as far as we know but the memory is different. They are designed for lower-end systems, cheaper and lower TDP. The question is - would you also demand boardpartners to make new names for every single card they sell that does not have the reference clock? It would be nice to see them called differently, but that is up to the board-partners. It is already the same with mobile devices where the OEM decides the power envelope and the exact same hardware can have wildly different performance. Seriously, some CPUs can run anywhere form 10W to 25 W and they are called the same.
nanobug Exactly. I think the reason being simply business profit favoring decision where Nvidia is re-using literally junk and remnant parts laying around factory. It costs monies to recycle trash but since its not real trash but rather perfectly functional parts of lower grade/silicon etc. they just call it DDR4 and run on very low clocks so it lasts anyway.
Nvidia is getting worse and more dishonest by the week... As a consumer it is VERY important thatt you boycott anti-consumer and anti-free market practices like this. I am no longer going to buy a 1080Ti, and I wish I could take back my 1060 purchase... AMD isnt innocent here, but this is just plain shady from Nvidia.
I dont know a person less informed than you about something . The reason AMD cards are so damn expensive is because they are so damn good at mining ,it is not AMD msrp dude! It is simply supply and demand, the rx580 had a msrp of about 250-300 USD if I remember correctly. Also, speaking of efficiency, no miner that respects itself runs these gpus at stock specs, most of them underclock the cores and undervolt the gpus as well in order to drive efficiency up.
Groza Adrian Doesn't matter, they already lost the gaming market even more now with GPP. Also the biggest miners don't undervolt, you think with the amount of money Chinese businessmen have and the amount of RX Vegas (usually by the 100s) they have profiting everyday gives a damn about undervolting and "efficiency"? They would rather abuse the warranty than to interrupt their mining.Undervolting is also silicon thing too, it's not the same for every card and the people I see working at sweatshops like those look like they don't even know how to tweak voltage and clocks. A private miner does though, but mining farms outweigh low level private mining rigs
If 100s of GPUs are used then they will care about undervolting as cost savings are multiplied. And businessmen themselves dont build these machines. They are surely built by someone who understands so the farms are mostly running at optimal settings.
Ok. Let me be completely honest here. I am not kidding but i am thouroughly enjoying the WAN show videos and I look forward to every episode. Thank you for this!
Actually it is Nvidia who gets to have the final word on what a manufacturer can call a GPU like. Otherwise there would be nothing limiting an AIB from cherry picking their best 1080TIs ,overclocking the shit out of them, locking the frequencies there and then calling them 1090.
Should have just called it the GT 1010/1020 or something, same with AMD and the RX 560 14 CU version, just call it something else and there's no confusion, no misleading the consumer, no problem. Come on you two, stop trying to screw uninformed people over...
Alberto Simeoni what? The gt 1030 is definitely used for light gaming. People don't buy one just to output video, for that you buy a gt 210, 630 or 710.
Yeh, problems happen but given how many times this has occurred I feel just a cheap blue yeti style usb mic would be better than whatever ridiculously expensive setup they have going right now. It's like they stick with it just because it's supposed to be the best setup and costs a lot despite it sounding worse than every other cheap youtubers audio.
It's the same as AMD with the 2 versions of the 560. Just not on in either case.AMD got rightly pilloried back in Dec 2017 and nVidia should do now. Both manufacturers will say they have the right to change the specification at anytime, however they are BOTH abusing this privilege.
Yeah they should of called it GT1020 or GT1025. Although we did see a lot of GDDR5 and DDR3. Ex. GTS450 1GB GDDR5 or GTS450 2GB DDR3 ( joke was the 1GB was faster because it was GDDR5 )
the guy on the left is what is wrong with humanity , according to him "screw freedom and privacy for the tiniest and stupidest bit of convenience" Phones getting smarter , people getting dumber , GG humans , it was good while it lasted
Privacy? The US government wants to make website responsible if their user do stupid things on their platform. They are leaving these companies no choice but to be big brother because the government just allowed them to be sued if they don’t monitor.
I really appreciated the tech talk, it doesn't happen that often with Luke on (who knows too much to really have a tech talk where we can learn) . Savage James hit the questions I would have asked and the answers were on point, best Wan Show in a long time.
WayStedYou AMD at least they added lite or E letter and its specified in technical description of product which most likely you are not aware of or read.
Calling bullshit on the messenger not being used to sell ads. Talked to a friend about a 3d printer and when I refreshed the page I had ads for the exact one we talked about.
Trusting Facebook to not track you is asinine. Absolutely expect them to track everything you do, whether that's in "it's a secret we promise :))))" mode or not. And logging out is not enough to stop Facebook or any other site from tracking you. If you don't want to avoid being tracked by their cookies you should only log in to their website from an incognito window. That way ALL the cookies from that session will be properly deleted, unlike just logging out which is just a promise that the login cookie is deleted. If you're willing to break part of the web you can also disable third party cookies in your browser settings. Privacy over the internet is a really complicated topic, so I don't blame you for not getting things right. I'm happy to watch nonetheless
fingerprinting is as accurate as a cookie. most runs off javascript, but you can get addons to block or give random readouts for most fingerprint methods. privacy badger is only for trackers across multiple websites and doesn't block a lot of one-offs you might encounter, or alternate domains purchased by the big ad tracking companies. get ublock origin and umatrix or scriptsafe also. dont forget to configure them dont forget your ip and dns info is also a fingerprint, just go to browserleaks to look at all this stuff
Well ... They can spying on me if they wanted to. But I'll tried my best that they get nothing interesting on it. Because ... As you explained before. Avoiding their surveillance is very hard. And myself is not a tech savvy guy.
First line of defense is what you see on the internet, what you interact with, and what information you give out. expect the information to be spread to at least 2 additional paying parties of interest
i am mostly way too lazy to delete shit and log out and stuff but actually the incognito mode is not as incognito as you might think. There are still ways of tracking you there btw...
RighteousBruce OHNOOO MY MESSAGES WERE SCANNED WHATEVER SHALL I DO Smh. I personally don't give a shit unless they make their tracking so intrusive I'd get reported for some of the most mundane things.
Facebook is definitely NOT going to delete your messages even if you can't see them. I'll do a video on this from a programmers perspective. Complete BS from FB do NOT trust them! BTW 32:48 was some great shortcuts lol
I never heard them say it's going to delete. They said, it won't be sent to the receipient. Would be great to see your video though to know exactly what is going to happen when they launch the feature.
James issue with using single headphones does carry some merit. When listening in only one ear you need to increase the volume to achieve the same perceived volume as when you would use both ears, increasing your risk of ear damage.
Why is it that a guy with a tech channel, 10k€ or even way more on equipment cant get a stream running. Children screaming in CSGO have a better sound quality.
Traylay they don’t actually know what they’re doing either. They’re googling shit and reading forums like the rest of us! James doesn’t even know middle click functions on browsers. Lol
PS5 right now is dumb. The technology for a big enough change isnt here yet. It could really hurt the console market if they make new systems with little change, especially if they're not backwards compatible. They would absolutely need to be able to move a game library to the new system. Losing the game remake market. Without a seemless change, it will crash and burn.
Why shouldn't it be not backwards compatible? It's just the same PC hardware, only faster. And actually the technology for a big change is there. Imagine a PS5 with something like an 1800X and Vega 56. That would be much faster than their current APU stuff.
Michael Kehm They've used it as a cash grab in the past. There hasn't been a good reason why any system wasn't built to be backwards compatible. They just decided not to
Actually there was a reason, because PS3 (and XBOX 360) was Cell Power PC something and since PS4 (and XBOX One) it's X86 (again on the intel side). PS1 was an MIPS Risc CPU, PS2 was something else. You could only be backwards compatible (and the PS3 was in the beginning) with emulation, while now with X86 it's like a new PC.
Michael Kehm I understand that, but the only reason why they did that, is because they could. Exclusives sell. It's also used as a backup plan. When a contract on an exclusive ends, the game would have to be entirely remade from the ground up to work on other hardware. You can't make an exclusive that only works in Dell computers, for example. Anybody can get around that by a 10 min visit to a forum to learn which file to change
everyone, right click volume icon, select playback devices, select speakers, select properties, select levels, select balance and then make the left ear a little higher until you are satisfied. Windows advice only
I love how James asks relevant and very downright basic questions to Linus ...it makes the conversation educational as well as gripping... He might just be the one to permanently replace Luke in the long run when Luke gets busy with the floatplane stuff
Luke sounds like a gullible fool, that is ok with other people's private lives being invaded because he himself is ok with it. Those kinds of people are some of the most dangerous people out there.
"People want to buy ROG" What? But I got the impression that was just overpriced enthusiast nonsense covered in LEDs! If I saw the same level of performance without the BS, I'd go for that instead in a heartbeat...
Arve Eriksson if I had to take a guess I'd say no which is good cause I wouldn't either get every single day people get killed for a lot less money So just because I wouldn't buy rog and you wouldn't buy rog doesn't make everyone else not want it too
facebook also has the information your friends give to it about you. i deleted my facebook a few years ago because someone i knew posted pictures of me and tag me on it. and that regardless of the fact that everybody i met, knew that i don't want my face on facebook. now i know better, if you don't want a company to know you, you should stay the fuck away from it.
If you're one of those people saying GDDR5 vs DDR4 in the 1030 doesn't matter, from my experience, it matters a lot. I got a huge improvement when I overclocked the memory of my laptop's MX150 (which is basically the 1030) and not so much of an improvement when I increased the base and boost clocks.
I lived in Shenzhen, jaywalking usually invovles jumping a fence, crossing a 6 lane road, jumping a tall hedge, crossing another 6 lane road, and them jumping the last fence into safety. It's relatively rare but I can see why it's such a bigger deal than jaywalking a suburban 2 lane road
IMO any communication that is not public should be hands off. So friends only or direct messages should only be seen or utilized by the intended recipients. Regarding the 'cookies' use internet explorer and clear cookies on close.
@nvidia: they are doing the same in mobile right now if i am not very much mistaken. lower clock, lower tdp same chip - no differenciation at all. people will buy latpops thinking they get a much faster chip than actually is in there.
Why is Luke at pax? Isn’t he a startup manager now? Why doesn’t Linus do the smart move of cutting him altogether. He should technically be paid a lot for helping build the ltt brand but this is his chance to get rid of that problem.
16:30 correction, Facebook collects a file-tree of your system drive as soon as you sign up with a PC. It also does the same if you use Facebook on a phone, except then it also collects contact information, sms information, call information, picture & video information on top of a file-tree of your phone storage.

I didn't realize they mentioned the audio problem because I was trying to figure out why my audio was in Mono

Agreed. Phone bias
Funny enough when I was watching live the audio fine

Nvidia's bullshit is slowly driving me away. Their behaviour is definitely going to factor into my next GPU purchase.

I love how James' laugh is so much quieter than Luke's

and I was like "WTF is my audio system failing again?!" xd

Ok. Let me be completely honest here. I am not kidding but i am thouroughly enjoying the WAN show videos and I look forward to every episode. Thank you for this!
Phobe: I gave them greatest gift in the world.
Chandler: you gave them PlayStation?
OMFG, thank you so much James. I absolutely hate the inbox ads.
GT 1030 was already choking at 64-Bit GGDR5 and now they lower the bandwidth by 3 times? Great.
Alberto Simeoni Sorry some people who don't have enough money don't have healthy minds
Nvidia sells their own cards also....
Actually it is Nvidia who gets to have the final word on what a manufacturer can call a GPU like. Otherwise there would be nothing limiting an AIB from cherry picking their best 1080TIs ,overclocking the shit out of them, locking the frequencies there and then calling them 1090.
Repeat of the AMD 460 scam I suppose. They both need to be honest and give them a different SKU say 1025 and 455 for instance.
I absolutely LOVE it when James says FreshBooks.

Literally everytime I hear or see an ad for Freshbooks, I hear James going “Fressssshhbooooks” lol
You guys really got to fix the sound issues, it has been several weeks in a row. Love the show, but it comes off as unprofessional.
The mic shouldn't fix stereo issues. Mics are mono
Oh, the WAN show is unprofessional? In other news: Water, Wet.
Just watch on your phone it's much more tolerable
Linus did say that the WAN show was intended to be unprofessional, which is why they talk during the intro or something like that
That CCTV AI.. reminds me of the movie Demolition man.. "John Spartan is fined for violation of the Verbal Morality Statute" :D
I am not fine with those messages being scanned. Wow. Never gonna use facebook messenger again.
why don't they just call it the GT1020?
Supercharged because same chip GP108-300
they have even named identical chips different just for different clock speeds like GT750m and GT755m
Because they want to sell an inferior product under the guise of a better product. Most people will not know the difference.

That Nvidia 1030 stuff wont fly here in Australia, we have fairly strong laws on deceptive practices.
Aus Explorer we still got the cutdown rx 560s in aus. And they werent marked 16cu and 14cu until it got pointed out by tech sites worldwide
Aus Explorer I doubt that. Welcome to the club. Everyone will get this kind of card. Slower and expensive.
WayStedYou AMD at least they added lite or E letter and its specified in technical description of product which most likely you are not aware of or read.
Wrong. It will fly actually because the specs are defined. And you know, nothing stops Microsoft selling SoT @$100Aud when it's $60usd ($75Aud)...
Calling bullshit on the messenger not being used to sell ads. Talked to a friend about a 3d printer and when I refreshed the page I had ads for the exact one we talked about.

privacy badger is only for trackers across multiple websites and doesn't block a lot of one-offs you might encounter, or alternate domains purchased by the big ad tracking companies. get ublock origin and umatrix or scriptsafe also. dont forget to configure them
dont forget your ip and dns info is also a fingerprint, just go to browserleaks to look at all this stuff
Thanks for the middle-click info. I new I would learn something of value from one of these eventually.
20:35 I think they also had a GT 740 with GDDR5 and DDR3. It's pretty clear on the box what type of memory it is (for EVGA at least).
710,730, and others over the years
Thank you for fixing the audio from last week
You should not be ok with your messages being scanned lol.
RighteousBruce yeah..even if you have nothing to hide, it's the pure principal of the fact that your privacy is being infringed upon.
RighteousBruce OHNOOO
MY MESSAGES WERE SCANNED
WHATEVER SHALL I DO
Smh. I personally don't give a shit unless they make their tracking so intrusive I'd get reported for some of the most mundane things.
facebook scanning = bye Felicia
my mate gets banned from fb for 30 days for sharing stuff that isnt even that bad, in PM messages.... it is happening
tthey dont JUST look at getting you deals... far out.
CTRL Shift T just saved my life. thank you.
Facebook is definitely NOT going to delete your messages even if you can't see them. I'll do a video on this from a programmers perspective. Complete BS from FB do NOT trust them!
BTW 32:48 was some great shortcuts lol
Then why are they scanning them in the first place
Nullpointer what do you mean? They haven't implemented the feature yet
I never heard them say it's going to delete. They said, it won't be sent to the receipient. Would be great to see your video though to know exactly what is going to happen when they launch the feature.
I love the wan show. THANK YOU! Linus, and the tech team.
Luke is in Boston : thank you for asking
I had the exact same heart stopping moment when he thought the PS4 Pro was two years ago lol, time does fly even though it wasn't fully two.

Мандибрики і Цирупопики lol what? you are dumb.
WHAT? LOL You are the one who is stupid
Love James he brings a good vibe to the mix.
Linus, madness, for you, is not a drive, it's a short putt.
I love Sponsor Jerky! (Timestamps)
They should've released this new card as a GT 1020 or 1025
No lie, I used Honey about a week ago when booking a condo in Colorado, and it saved me about $100!!! 🤯
600 million cameras so you get to walk into an airport without doing anything....not a plus james lol..
James issue with using single headphones does carry some merit. When listening in only one ear you need to increase the volume to achieve the same perceived volume as when you would use both ears, increasing your risk of ear damage.
Discount Luke blinks a lot...like....a lot.....
Licont Discount Luke is Discount.
I was on a train in Hongkong and there was a Bloomberg segment playing about standing up and working and there was a clip with Linus in it!
Lol
What's a browser?
Nice, I live in Shenzhen, hope you have a good week here.
Michael Kehm Xbox 360 wasn't cell it was less awkward to work with them cell.
everyone, right click volume icon, select playback devices, select speakers, select properties, select levels, select balance and then make the left ear a little higher until you are satisfied.
Windows advice only
oh wait they fixed it
Its the GT 730 all over again...
Funny how the sound works perfectly when you're trying to sell me a vacuum though.
I love how James asks relevant and very downright basic questions to Linus ...it makes the conversation educational as well as gripping... He might just be the one to permanently replace Luke in the long run when Luke gets busy with the floatplane stuff
Maybe Nvidia is responding to AMD's silent release of the cut down RX 560, lol competition on the market.
facecrusher hahahha
Left ear: *whispers* Hey I'm here
Right ear:
YO WHAT THE FUCK IS UP!?
Well this is going to take me an hour to view and more hours to understand
Red Ferret what happened to your channel, 3 years ago you had lots of views now???????
this is what it is deal with it No videos, we’re reviving it :-)
What do you mean by no videos?
hhh Bn Well there were no new videos/content uploaded in the past months and now I’m trying to create some content again
Put tippex (liquid paper) on dials for the mixer so you know where every knob is meant to be pointing for WAN Show to be perfect 👌
please just fix the audio
Get the bath in a bag. Shower at your computer while loading your next level
- Linus Tech Tips
- *CAN'T FIX AN AUDIO PROBLEM*
Luke /James generally is pretty fun for me, but *finally* Linus & James are building a great WAN Show rapport!
AMD? 16 years ago AMD didn't do Graphics....I think Linus means ATI
AMD Bought out ATI, he thought everyone would understand what he meant.
My right ear thoroughly enjoyed this video
Luke sounds like a gullible fool, that is ok with other people's private lives being invaded because he himself is ok with it. Those kinds of people are some of the most dangerous people out there.
I had Q6600, absolute beast, TDP and memory bus wise. Had it for like 7 years. Great 4 core processor.
"People want to buy ROG"
What? But I got the impression that was just overpriced enthusiast nonsense covered in LEDs! If I saw the same level of performance without the BS, I'd go for that instead in a heartbeat...
Arve Eriksson would you kill someone for 500 dollars?
Um... Why do you ask?
Arve Eriksson if I had to take a guess I'd say no which is good cause I wouldn't either get every single day people get killed for a lot less money
So just because I wouldn't buy rog and you wouldn't buy rog doesn't make everyone else not want it too
Trogdor reference. That was worth sitting through 44 minutes for. Long live the Burninator!
facebook also has the information your friends give to it about you. i deleted my facebook a few years ago because someone i knew posted pictures of me and tag me on it. and that regardless of the fact that everybody i met, knew that i don't want my face on facebook. now i know better, if you don't want a company to know you, you should stay the fuck away from it.
You can remove tags.
The "damage" is already done...
FRESHHHHBOOKSSSS
Love it, Get james to always do the sponsor slot :')
No intro?
intro 1:02:53
outro 1:04:16
dasyad00 HahahahahahaHahahahahaha
Hey man just take the bingo spot
goin in dry
The PS4 Pro didn't rely on crossfire, a lot of people were misled by Cerny's "mirrored" GPU comment but it was still one monolithic die.
#NoLukeClub FeelsBadMan
I knew about the Middle MButton but didn't know about Ctrl+Shift+T Something new every day :D
6:32 I totally agree with you James,
Yeah, I actually find it uncomfortable to use one headphone especially with high volume and over the ear stuff.
Also, ears do wear down. Hair cells in cochlea wear out in use.. and they don't grow back.
this is what it is deal with it o
James should be fired for not knowing middle clink on links opens them in a new tab...... goes to show Linus does not hire high quality workers. SMH
What's good about facebook: Nothing.
I like how the second he grabbed the headphones the sound balanced out
Just an afterthought ,
but I think you could really use a DSG
Dedicated Sound Guy
They don't, I setup my mixer once and not had to do anything to it since.
freshsticks was hilarious and i want it to be recognized.
35:09 should be a gif
There you go: gyazo.com/76b91a232549a15ae80c161cf02b64a3
It's a gif tho
TechTaste thanks, can you explain how to do it also?!
You should just google "how to make a gif with gyazo", you'll find plenty of sites and videos teaching you how to do it
If ever there''s a Freshbooks sponsored WAN show with #LazerJames but without him saying "Freschbuks", a little part of me would die inside..
No re-runs next week!
Thank you for the time stamps
Love me Linus!!! From Australia
I never realized that the scroll wheel opened a new tab when the cursor is on a link! AWESOME!!!!!
lol 1:01:21 FRESHSTICKS!
Been a while since I heard a Homestar Runner reference. Good job.
ATi not AMD
IMO any communication that is not public should be hands off. So friends only or direct messages should only be seen or utilized by the intended recipients.
Regarding the 'cookies' use internet explorer and clear cookies on close.
the face book comments get you the very first downvote from me ever...
facebook can rot in hell for all I care...
Love James's FLESH BOOKS!!!! Also rate the Luke James combo.
@nvidia: they are doing the same in mobile right now if i am not very much mistaken. lower clock, lower tdp same chip - no differenciation at all. people will buy latpops thinking they get a much faster chip than actually is in there.
#laserJames
how many times do you need to comment
11
Eric McDonald I ask that question myself too
Harry Light 5
Why is Luke at pax? Isn’t he a startup manager now? Why doesn’t Linus do the smart move of cutting him altogether. He should technically be paid a lot for helping build the ltt brand but this is his chance to get rid of that problem.
Man, Sponsor Jerky is so good
#4ViewsClub
u get me too...
:p
Fucker i locked my screen from moving and was trying tk get that hair off!! Omfg!!!!
Nepo lol
16:30 correction, Facebook collects a file-tree of your system drive as soon as you sign up with a PC.
It also does the same if you use Facebook on a phone, except then it also collects contact information, sms information, call information, picture & video information on top of a file-tree of your phone storage.
