    SPGs and TDs are not super complicated.
    SPGs are great ways to spike soft attack on an armor division. You completely missed the special howitzer guns you get from the artillery tech tree; they add absurd amounts of soft attack. The 1941 medium howitzer has a base 45!!! soft attack. Having 1-2 of these in your armor divisions makes them cut through even entrenched infantry
    TDs exist when you need piercing and counter-armor on a budget. If you need a unit to counter an armored thrust that does not rely on entrenchment, TDs are the way to go. You can convert away your earlier vehicle models to have a fixed superstructure and a higher tier gun. Those 10,000 early tier light and medium tanks gain new life as something useful for a specialist frontline division that sits nicely in those ugly plains tiles that normally are weak spots of defensive lines. France starts with 840 terrible light tanks, all of which can become light TD to blunt blitzkrieg by 1939 on the cheap.

    There is so much to pick apart in this clear case of "I want to refresh myself in the RUclips algorithm" video. Rather than criticize it all, I only wanted to point out one thing.
    1. Flame tanks are only important on the attack, as they give next to nothing on defense besides a little bit of soft attack, thus wasted on infantry divisions which are designed to hold ground. Artillery gives more for less IC.
    2. Medium flame tanks are meta, not heavies. Heavy tanks are just too expensive. Lights use to be meta but armor and piercing changes have made them useless for anything beyond the attack bonuses. There is little reason to discuss talking about armor on flame tanks.
    3. The only reason you'd want to have flame tanks on an infantry division is if it's a Marines one, for the attack bonus (again). Slapping heavy flame tanks on your entire infantry force or (which I imagine was the intent) just a few select infantry divisions to push with is IC inefficient and a fuel trap. Just build tanks and CAS. The fascination with "space marines" among some players is ridiculous.
    I don't understand the point of the video if you're unwilling to at least make a pass over some tank designs for specific roles. Any new player trying to understand what make sense for tank design and usage coming across this is going to flounder.
    Also, as passing comment as I'm watching the end, you absolutely can have too much breakthrough. Mobile Warfare R+R comes across this problem all the time which is why a MW tank division design often trades some mediums for *gasp* tank destroyers or SPGs!

    • @NareshSinghOctagon
      @NareshSinghOctagon Год назад

      1. Infantry divisons are not designed to just hold ground,and having flame supports are exactly for people who can't afford so many tanks in the first place.
      2. Late game with large amounts of productions makes heavies usable,because you can now actually afford them.
      3. Again,for people who can't afford that many tanks,and even planes.
      4. Specific tank designs don't return as much in singleplayer,more so when,again,people who can't afford that many tanks.
      5. There is never too much breakthrough,breakthrough is what you need to really start punching through enemy lines.

    • @DarkHairedOne
      @DarkHairedOne Год назад

      @@NareshSinghOctagon If you can't afford tanks, build motorized infantry+rockets/artillery. That can push as well, though not nearly as effectively as a dedicated tank division. All infantry divisions are designed to hold ground, that's why their defense is so high, but some can also attack given the right design. Maybe you got confused on that point?
      Points #2, #3, and #4 are conflicting with each other so I'm not sure what you're trying to say.
      There is, however, absolutely a point when you are better served to increase your soft or hard attack over breakthrough. It comes down to the apparently scary word of efficiency. If your breakthrough is higher than their attack, any extra breakthrough is wasted. At that point, it's better to increase your attack so battles are done quicker. Simple.

    • @jonathanbourke305
      @jonathanbourke305 Год назад

      @@DarkHairedOne I'm always really confused what is meant when people refer to "defensive" infantry divisions beyond special circumstances (i.e. Maginot line, coastal defense, Crimea defense). If I'm filling 75%+ of my frontline with infantry, they're eventually gonna have to push, even if that means after I've worn down the enemy with air/logistics/other assets, and even if that means a couple of years into the war. This also means I'd want to eventually add extra artillery or flame tanks or some pushing power into their templates.
      Are proponents of "defensive" infantry divisions literally never hitting the "go" button on battle plans? I've tried microing my tank armies and attacking with *only* them, but any sufficiently-sized enemy (Germany, Soviet, America) will just naturally shuffle units around on their frontline and you just de-org before you can breakthrough their constantly fresh recycling divisions.
      Are my tank divs just not beefy enough for attacking purely with them? Do you create "shock" armies which are only filled with "offensive" infantry div templates and use those to push along with tanks? (That would seem like management micro hell, constantly having to rearrange your frontlines so your shock armies are exactly where you want to support your tank attacks)
      Honest inquiry btw; always trying to learn more about strategies for this game.

    • @DarkHairedOne
      @DarkHairedOne Год назад

      @@jonathanbourke305 Sure, I'll try and do a run through that hopefully won't be too lengthy.
      First point. Infantry is primarily designed to hold ground, making them defensively oriented in nature, a fact reflected in their stats. Tank divisions can, with the right equipment (dozer blade, smoke launchers, ect) improve their defense but you'll never have enough of them and that's not their job. So, I consider all infantry divisions defensive.
      However! It is possibly, even perfectly valid, to also design infantry divisions that are capable of attacking either in terms of breaking through enemy lines or causing significant strength damage. I occasionally use motorized infantry divisions with motorized arty (and later rocket arty/mechanized) to great effect for the former and there is something to be said for heavy SPG's for the latter. There's nothing inherently wrong with having a few divisions designed that way.
      The second point comes down to cost, which is where tanks come in and why is better to design "offensive" tank divisions for pushing. Well designed tank divisions are going to be your best source of breakthrough, which allows a division to avoid attacks (and protect manpower/equipment, part of the "cost" calculation) and exploit lines in a speedy manner. Regular leg infantry is too slow to exploit and you'll be spending precious manpower/equipment trying to push.
      As to whether anyone every attacks with frontline infantry, all the time. Pinning attacks to keep enemy divisions in place, stopping that frontline "shuffling" is crucial micro and leg infantry can do that for a few hours whenever pushing. That's why it's important to slap some artillery on frontline infantry, giving it more punch on both the offense and defense.
      I personally don't see the need to put flame tanks on leg infantry though to help them "push". That IC can be better spent elsewhere, either on more tanks to build a bigger tank corps or air assets to either control more of the skies or do more CAS strikes/Strat bombing.

    What I've been doing is building 23 width infantry divisions with 2 light tanks, 1 Arty, and 8 infantry to get an infantry division pushed over to an armored divsion. Then with the Mobile Warfare doctrine, all of my divsions get the bonuses. Design the tanks to only move at 4kph, and maximize the soft attack and armor (without pushing the cost up too high). You can do this and launch your war in 1939, although you will probably be understrength for a while. By the end of 1940 and Great Britain conquered, you can add on a couple of medium tanks also built for 4kph, although this starts pushing up the supply and oil requirements. You can start with medium tanks instead of light, but it's a little more difficult early on due to the production costs.

    @FeedbackIRL, have you tried to boost tank or air production speed by conversion. You do BASE tank template -cheapest as you can, put in production, decomission it, and then from its base convert to more expensive design. It boosts the production rate and saves you a lot of resources, because conversion is cheaper then producing from a scratch. It maybe not so usefull for major nations, but for minor nations it is a great solution. It saved me too many times. For example as any African nation without aluminium, it will you save you a ton of it for the war with Major nations.

  • @VarenvelDarakus
    @VarenvelDarakus Год назад +2

    what bothers me about light tanks is if you make equivalent medium...with similar stats its cheaper
    when your putting 9 armor on your lightsand 2 engine your making it more expensive then equivalent medium as i made 2 tanks costing both 7.6 production based on your light
    and medium tank stats are just better as medium can have 0 engine 0 armor and still have better stats then light (despite costs same)
    for same cost: medium gets 100% relialability(light gets 91%) 85% hardness(80on light) 48.1 armor(light gets 35) less fuel usage2.00(light has 2.1) faster , 4.7km (light got 4.1)
    light gets: 2 points in breakthru
    it is also worth noting ontop of above that different divisions have different number of tanks , heavy is 40 , medium is 50 , and light is 60 , so by using light you will also need to provide 20% more tanks (this can be both benefit , and disadvantage depening how you look)
    if you just want to make "good rounder" who is what im doing in singleplayer , medium is way to go
    i still like lights , they are great for making cheap fast tank divisions , but they are not good for adding to infantry , yes they are cheaper but paired up with "worse stats" and you need more of them in division added , its prefered to use mediums or heavies
    you just get more bang for your buck , but you do start with production of lights in a lot countries and you do need to research mediums , so there is that

      Usually I make a light tank with small cannon and an armor value of 9-15 depending on research.With superior firepower (RR) this melts other armies consistently.

Generally speaking there isn't much different between SP and MP meta. The combat calculations are the same so the same stats are still just as good in MP as they are in SP. Only difference is you focus on hard attack in MP and Soft attack in SP. Otherwise the designs are the same cuz the best stats are still the best stats. And these designs are terribly inefficient.

    1. "light tanks are useless"
    2. "you can never have too much breakthrough"
    And they are repeating this one after another so everyone thinks that's correct.
    Well, it's not.
    Actually LT is the best way to effectively stuck soft attack, which is most important vs AI (and also in MP until let's say 1942).
    LSPG is even better in this, especially since 1941 artillery tech (before this tech, don't make SPGs).
    And you don't need 100+ breakthrough per tank, unless it is single battalion in space-marine template.
    You also don't need to have 100 armor on every tank, basically one MT batalion (with armor upgrades later) will be good enough vs infantry for entire game.
    Actually vs AI you don't even need to put a point in tank research, to make unpiercable space marine divisions. Here is a nice video of inter-war medium tank based space marine divisions usage. It will beat every AI until 1942.
    Myself I design this tank a bit different, with more reliability, but its a minor difference.

      1934 medium tanks have been moved to 1938 in the most recent patch for balance, no dlc needed just an older version of the game in the video that still had them. The tips in the video should still apply though.

    Basic Mediums with AA1 gun are great for large Soviet inf div; uses very little resources, can be started before 39 for distribution to entire defensive front. Cheap alternative to typ Meds w/Auto2 gun+Support AA, frees up factories for other production.
