    Liam Lawson missed out on the AlphaTauri seat, Daniel Ricciardo will be driving for the Faenza based outfit for the remainder of this season alongside Yuki Tsunoda. I think it's the right decision, here's why.

      i think that’s why the went with nyck de vries in the first place. he had a lot of experience in different single seater series and showed the f1 paddock to jump into any car and give each team valuable feedback. i think that’s why they chose him over liam in the first place, to have a driver that can score points and fight with faster cars pretty much all the time, instead of building a young driver and giving him a full season to grow into f1. this high expectation is what led nyck to get dropped again, because rb expected him not to need any time to grow into f1 and replaced him with the most experienced driver currently on the market, to get the results alpha tauri desperately needs in

    • @ferglesnerk

      Spot on. Daniel is simply being used to bring the AT further up the grid. They just need some points. Where De Vries is starting 18th & finishing 18th they want Daniel to start, say, 14th & finish 8th or 9th. No heroics or whatever, just improvements.

    Regarding Red Bull sending Gasly and Lawson to Super Formula after F2:
    Should F2, and by extension F3, be closer to F1 in terms of cars and rules so young drivers are better prepared to step into F1? (maybe an idea for a video @Tommo)
    I think so because it happens too often that drivers do really well in F2/F3 but then they can't adapt/step up when they get a seat in F1.

    • @mrgalaxy396
      @mrgalaxy396 11 месяцев назад +8

      The problem with that is costs. The current F2 cars are already expensive as is, trying to jack up the power and/or aerodynamics will make them only pricier and the grid will struggle to afford them. Remember, these are junior ladder series, where as SF is a top tier national series like IndyCar. What really needs to happen is to bring back testing miles for rookies to prepare them for the debut. Use older cars on tyres teams can't gather useful info on and put it outside the budget cap.

      Ric doesn't do well when he is second fiddle. He's showed that first time with Max. And then with Lando.

      @@brucemckay7828that is an interesting take. You’re right about the second seat and Daniel. I also think it didn’t help that he was talked about by everyone like he was gonna be champion one day. Then it was champion or bust, and then Max came up. Maybe being humbled and more mature, he can at least accept being treated as a #2. I think he compounded mistakes by leaving Renault so soon, and went straight to a team that already had their driver of the future. They were never going to develop the car toward Daniel, and apparently he couldn’t adapt to the type of car they wanted. Anyway, got off topic. It will be interesting to see what happens if he soundly beats Yuki, and then gets put in a second seat again at RB. I think he’d be more productive than Checo, if he’s still got it. He was fast in the RB car, and his driving style suits it. It’ll still be developed toward Max, but I think it will fit him better than it does Checo. I like Sergio, don’t get me wrong, but he was better when they were dealing with understeer, which Max hated. His style doesn’t fit this car, and I believe Ric’s does.

    I think they will try and get Lawson in a Williams next season. They’ve done an awesome job with Sergeant this season in my opinion, as well as Russell and Albon. If Albon moves on which I can see happening it would be a great place for Lawson

    I think as of rn with Ricciardo's tyre test and Horner singing Danny Ric's praise about how competitive he is, that the question in the Red Bull camp is when does Danny Ric boot Checo from the works team, and Lawson comes into Alpha Tauri most likely in 2024, so that he has a fresh start and a developed car that has some influence from a race winner in the form of Ricciardo.
    Imo I'd love to see a Ricciardo and Verstappen reunion and in terms of financial assets, Ricciardo will more than make up the money Red Bull will use to buy out Checo's last season with them (exit clause and Kimi Alonso Ferrari vibes is what Im feeling).
    If that does happen, it poses the inevitable question for Marko of who to put alongside Yuki in AT, Lawson or Iwasa. I'd have Lawson in the seat since Super Formula is closer to F1 than anything else and give Iwasa the test/reserve driver role and give him all the FP1 outings, so he can get some time in F1 machinery.

    The huge question mark to me here is: how close Red Bull wants its other driver from Max? I mean, they can bring a “too close to comfort” situation as well.

  • @themok3rify
    @themok3rify 11 месяцев назад +1

    Daniel to AT is a good move. That way Red Bull can evaluate both Daniel and Yuki for the RB seat, since Perez has only 1 more year on his contract (if they dont boot his ass earlier).
    Once Perez serves out his contract, Daniel or Yuki can take the RB seat, Lawson becomes the new AT driver.
    I honestly think if Perez doesn’t improve, he’s gone end of this season. Perez’ sponsor money or not, Red Bull can easily replace that loss of income with a new sponsor. Sponsor world is all about impressions and screen time, well that RB19 is getting a lot of screen time atm.

  • @Sknarfn
    @Sknarfn 10 месяцев назад +1

    I’m sure Lawson ends up in AT for 2024. I think the real question at this point is if the 2nd Red Bull driver will be Tsunoda or Ricciardo.

  • @LeJimster

    Pretty much summed up what I thought. They know what Ricciardo is capable of and he has said he would only go to Alpha Tauri if there was an opportunity to get back into the main team. So that's why he's took it. He obviously impressed enough at the Silverstone tyre test. But I honestly don't think that data means a whole lot when it comes to driving the Alpha Tauri.
    As for Liam Lawson, I think it would be criminal if he didn't get his shot in F1 soon. I will be interested to see who gets FP1 rookie outings later this year. It could be an indication of which driver they are looking to promote next.

    Easy Mate. Ricardo brings experience, and it is also a bigger fan base. Loosing the main sponsor helps to bring a new and bigger sponsor. The team increases in value and brings more money when they are ready to sell. They will sell that team in the future

    I agree this was the right decision. I also believe RedBull actually played this one smart, Ricciardo going there brings a lot of fans to Alpha Tauri ahead of next years car which will be more in line with RedBulls RB19 ..then putting Lawson in that car for the
    AT for the 2024 season and give him a full season behind the wheel and see how that plays out for seats in 2025… and let 2024 be either RIC or PER fight for the seat .. either RIC sets the pace for the rest of 2023 and gets seat for 2024 or RIC moves on and PER keeps seat for another year until either Lawson can step up or possibly NOR joins RB for 2025. Any of these options RB does not lose.

    It makes sense choosing Dani Ric in this scenario, but I still think Lawson needs to be in that team next year, whether it's replacing Tsunoda if Ricciardo stays/swaps with Perez, or replacing Ricciardo if he replaces Perez and Perez gets dropped.

    This is a huge rest of the season for Yuki sonoda. Let there be no mistake both of them are not going to move forward with this team. This could turn into a bloodbath between Yuki and Daniel and I think it should people are watching both drivers and they must know that they're building their careers on the back of the next man

    If Danny Ric got in the RB seat in place of Checo, I think it would really ruffle Verstappen's feathers if it's a 2014/16 Mercedes type situation. On the AT side, I think Lawson gets a seat for 2024 with Ayumu Iwasa taking his place in the Mugen SF seat.

    Super formula is probably closer to F1 than F2 is and Lawson is doing pretty well there. Interrupting his development too soon might not be a good idea! Lawson will probably get the Alpha Tauri seat next season because I don't think Ricciardo will be on the grid next season, I hope I'm wrong

    Something I think a lot of people are missing is that by putting Ricciardo in the AT we'll hopefully see the true pace of that AT car. If he's putting the car consistently in 10th or better it shows just how much has been lost trying to develop Tsunoda in terms of points and cash prizes

    Fact is that everyone also thinks that Max will see out his contract. At the end of 2025 he might just call it quits. That might be the reason why RB are also shopping for Lando and Charles. When that is the case then there will be place for Iwasa, Lawson and Yuki in RB and AT

    This is all about Helmut Marko solving the big driver puzzle in his head. It is unclear where many of the F1 drivers (besides Max obviously) and Red Bull juniors stand.
    This is the ideal move to understand all of it better. He can get a lot of information about the drivers currently under contract with Red Bull in F1. And it will take them to the end of the season, where he will have the full picture regarding Lawson and Iwasa.

    AT has to score points to justify being retained, and DR is now there to help (a) improve the car, (b) score points and (c) push / test Yuki.
    Having Daniel in the seat also gives Christian Horner options to replace Pérez if he does not improve his performances.
    DR needs to build up race conditioning
    DR will have 2 races and then the summer break to recover from what will be sore neck muscles
