Liam Lawson missed out on the AlphaTauri seat, Daniel Ricciardo will be driving for the Faenza based outfit for the remainder of this season alongside Yuki Tsunoda. I think it's the right decision, here's why.

I think I’m more excited Tommo met alex than if I did.
😁😁😁
@@TommoOnRUclips 300k btw
OMG I met Alex, and Lily, briefly in Montreal. They were out shopping the day after the Grand Prix. Alex was kind enough to take a photo with me. Huge fan.❤
i met alex a week ago and have been tryna tell tommo ever since lmao. he’s so sweet
@@xfrejaI met him in the paddock last week to. Class bloke.
Liam deserves a whole season AND a half decent car. He is the future and he deserves the same development time as Yuki has had (look at him now, a pretty decent driver)
You summed it up quiet nicely, Liam does deserve a better seat. If not seat, at least the development time spent to invest for his drive. Whereas Riccardo is tryna prove his worth in F1 and redeem his quality as a driver.
It'll be tough for him to showcase his talent in such an inconsistent car.
I think Lawson will replace Danny for 2024 if Yuki beats Danny this year. If Danny beats Yuki this year, Lawson will replace Yuki for 2024.
Yuki and Liam are two way different people. Yuki has great ties with Honda (rb engine partner as you know). Having backing does a lot and Liam isn’t a lone guy coming from Japan. Not the same
@@TommoOnRUclips why does that matter at this point? it gives him development time, time to get used to F1 and all of its intricacies - why is that less important than chucking someone else that's good in a rubbish car? mute point.
I think part of the problem with Lawson is Red Bull genuinely thought Vips was faster until he imploded.
Perhaps, they were close for sure
Tbf Yuri was indeed a tad faster. Hope VIPs gets a chance at redemption though. We all were young and said things we shouldn't say in public. He was punished way too harsh for what ultimately were just some shenanigans, but yeah the wokies need something to complain about
@@Roguescienceguy Maybe instead of living your life complaining about “wokies” you can learn that actions have consequences. If you want to do something go right ahead but it’s ultimately your fault if something happens because of it. You know the circumstances so why would you do it if you know the result?
@@cheddarmx5969 back in my day a bit of banter was nothing that special. Nowadays you lot always have to be offended for absolutely everything and destroying someone's life seems like the way to make your own pathetic life worth something. I am not going to change and that woke movement is getting more and more headwind from the public anyway. Go cry in a corner. I hold my position regarding Yuri, that was a proper witch-hunt and RBR was left with no other choice but to grant the wishes of the loud screaming minority BCS that's the PC thing to do.
@@Roguescienceguyhe said the N-word on stream casually which means he probably says it behind close doors. This isn’t some “left-wing woke conspiracy” of VIPS being racist. Him getting dropped from Red Bull was a great decision
Tommo: Lando, Lewis, Max and Danny are the most supported drivers.
Fernando Alonso: Am I nothing to you?
A yoke
Meanwhile, Checo’s face is literally all over Mexico
Fernando have a history of bad pr. The recent spike in new F1 fans that absolutely adore Fernando's memeability & some other sad agendas that I wouldn't mention is what made him rather popular today. Outside the bubble of those shallow fans, Fernando isn't as popular.
Though I do agree red bull made the right decision, I really hope Lawson will get the seat (next year?). He's got a great amount of potential!
Red Bull would be missing a trick not giving him a shot.
2024 after Perez’s contract is up
In Liam’s contract it said that he’s 100% guaranteed a seat at alpha tauri by 2025.
Why he should have a chance? He at best was just good in F2.Only 3rd in the standings in his last season 100points behind Drugo and 20 points behind Poucheire. There are plenty of better drivers that proven more in junior series like Poucherie, Vesti, Illot, Drugo, Schwarzman. Redbull is disapoited in his choices in junior series. They don't have a talents like Leclerc, Russel, Norris, Piastri any more.
@@EMANUEL-vt8okother than f2 he nearly won the dtm championship in 2021 but the championship change for him as he was punted out
Now he is in super formula the closest you can get to an f1 car more than formula 2 can and he has won a few races and is 4th I the standings
Ricciardo at Alpha Tauri over Lawson may also be an attempt to have an established driver help the team develop their car and catch up
Yup true, more points = more prize money
i think that’s why the went with nyck de vries in the first place. he had a lot of experience in different single seater series and showed the f1 paddock to jump into any car and give each team valuable feedback. i think that’s why they chose him over liam in the first place, to have a driver that can score points and fight with faster cars pretty much all the time, instead of building a young driver and giving him a full season to grow into f1. this high expectation is what led nyck to get dropped again, because rb expected him not to need any time to grow into f1 and replaced him with the most experienced driver currently on the market, to get the results alpha tauri desperately needs in
Spot on. Daniel is simply being used to bring the AT further up the grid. They just need some points. Where De Vries is starting 18th & finishing 18th they want Daniel to start, say, 14th & finish 8th or 9th. No heroics or whatever, just improvements.
Liam Lawson, as a full blown rookie would not be able to do this mid season.
Who would've thought Tommo would mention meeting Alex in the first 30 seconds of the video lmao
Had to do it to em
I believe that this is a fight to see who replaces Perez next year and then Lawson slides into the AT seat next year which I think is more fair to him to start fresh next year.
I think this fight will continue through 2024 honestly. Perez is signed with RB through 2024 and I don't think he's doing bad enough (yet) to where Red Bull should buyout his contract and replace him with Tsunoda or Ricciardo one year early
@cody95 He wasn't doing bad enough at Racing Point/Aston Martin to get dropped either but they had a chance to get Seb and went for it. That being said, I definitely think RB is assessing who's gonna take Perez's seat next year.
@@cody95 5 races with no O3 appearance? He is lucky that RB is so fast for now. what in 2024 the pack closes up again?
Checo is on thin ice IMO.
@@TommoOnRUclips I don't know that Perez wants to come back either after the way Max treated him and Red Bull is obviously looking to replace him. I think he just wants to do as well as possible so he can get the best possible ride next year.
So jealous of you meeting Albon! 🥲
At first, I was a bit upset they didn't go for Lawson, but you actually convinced me it's a correct choice, hope he's actually gonna get the seat next year tho.
Also glad you pointed out how often Red Bull promoted young drivers too soon and should actually let them develop for longer (so pls don't do that with Iwasa)
I know that nyck was woefully underperforming. However its a shame that he wasnt given a chwnce at his home rave but its f1. A brutal sport in the most brutal team.
Yeah that's tough man. I'd at least of given him til the mid season break personally.
He was getting dangerous! I kind of worry that given more time he might have taken someone out racing so dangerously. I support this change largely because of that.
Why, to be the bookend to Max first place? He deserves more and he's not gonna get that in F1. I bet he would excel in WEC
@@TommoOnRUclips The upside is he doesn't have to hear Helmut talk about him in the press. Helmut can't seem to shut up.
Let's goo 300k! Congratulations ❤
CONGRATS ON 300K TOMMO!!!!!! Much Love
Hey Tommo didn't expect to see you wearing a donut top, love it. Also congrats on 300k been awesome watching you grow.
congrats on meeting albon mate, and in regards to lawson, he'd have better odds not being in an alphatauri due to the dodgy performance, being a solid car at some and dismal at others, but either way exciting to have danny ric back on the grid
Lawson 2024 I can get behind absolutely.
Tommo love how wholesome your whisper "I finally met Alex" was. Big ups for you mate, love the content and glad that the establishment is starting to recognize that F1 is better with Tommo in the mix!
Thank you Blair 🙌
As long as lawson gets a seat next year I'm happy he more than deserves it
Tommo mate you are the only RUclipsr whose sponsor sections I don’t skip - love the unobtrusive way you present them. Big love, so happy you met Walex Walbon 💪💪💪
As a kiwi I was stoked to see Riccardo back on the grid, but seeing a seat being taken away from Lawson again was absolutely crushing. Really hope he gets his break some time soon 🙏
lawson is overrated bruv. He got bested by Logan Sargant, who was a rookie in the same machinery.
His time will come.
Throwing Lawson into that seat mid season would do him a great disservice

That gt4 soundtrack in the video brought me pure nostalgia
Really cool to focus on Liam instead of what everyone is already talking about, heard enough about Ricciardo. but cool to learn more about Liam! nice vid.
If they sign ayumu they should have Honda as a title sponsor for next season, they already have a works partnership with RB/AT so why not call it something like the Honda Toro Rosso team? I’d love that, would be beautiful with two Japanese drivers.
Just wanted to say awesome topic selection for this video. I think many content creators completely skipped over this element of the drama.
Basically the point of the move is to see which of the two is better to replace Checo at the end of 2024. Although saying that Lando is definitely an outside but potential choice, given the fact that Helmut Marko met with Lando's agent at Silverstone 👀
2:34 Oh no Tommo, you forgot Leclerc. The ladies are coming for you
Regarding Red Bull sending Gasly and Lawson to Super Formula after F2:
Should F2, and by extension F3, be closer to F1 in terms of cars and rules so young drivers are better prepared to step into F1? (maybe an idea for a video @Tommo)
I think so because it happens too often that drivers do really well in F2/F3 but then they can't adapt/step up when they get a seat in F1.
I wouldn't be against whacking up the engine output by a hundred horsepower or so. Keep the aero as is.
The problem with that is costs. The current F2 cars are already expensive as is, trying to jack up the power and/or aerodynamics will make them only pricier and the grid will struggle to afford them. Remember, these are junior ladder series, where as SF is a top tier national series like IndyCar. What really needs to happen is to bring back testing miles for rookies to prepare them for the debut. Use older cars on tyres teams can't gather useful info on and put it outside the budget cap.
Nice assessment. But I don't believe Ric fits it.
Ric doesn't do well when he is second fiddle. He's showed that first time with Max. And then with Lando.
There's no way he in 2024 gets in a RB and prospers behind Max.. it just may crush him.
@@brucemckay7828that is an interesting take. You’re right about the second seat and Daniel. I also think it didn’t help that he was talked about by everyone like he was gonna be champion one day. Then it was champion or bust, and then Max came up. Maybe being humbled and more mature, he can at least accept being treated as a #2. I think he compounded mistakes by leaving Renault so soon, and went straight to a team that already had their driver of the future. They were never going to develop the car toward Daniel, and apparently he couldn’t adapt to the type of car they wanted. Anyway, got off topic. It will be interesting to see what happens if he soundly beats Yuki, and then gets put in a second seat again at RB. I think he’d be more productive than Checo, if he’s still got it. He was fast in the RB car, and his driving style suits it. It’ll still be developed toward Max, but I think it will fit him better than it does Checo. I like Sergio, don’t get me wrong, but he was better when they were dealing with understeer, which Max hated. His style doesn’t fit this car, and I believe Ric’s does.
@philbear21 .we agree on much.
I liked what you had to say and I enjoyed reading it.
First let me say, I'm a McLaren fan. Been so for a long time.
As far as Dan goes, I'm trying, in my mind, to give him a fresh start
YOU MET ALEX OMG. Why am I getting so excited about this... congrats!!
loved the video great insight into it all
Let's just hope that this would be a good result for AT in the next coming races. Props to Danny Ric for returning tho!
I honestly would love to see Liam in one of the Le Mans Hypercars in the next years. This category of motorsports is booming and I'm sure he'd smash it
Great video keep it up you're doing amazing things 😁👍
Cheers Uzair!
big ups for the gran turismo music in the background
Right round the corner from my house, can't wait!
0:22 That should be the Red Bull lineup
9:00 That 2022 Alpine race suit was really nice
Corker
I think they should keep Daniel at AT next year and promote Yuki if he shows his quality against a proven driver that can match or beat Max, having Daniel as a benchmark for their rookies and an experienced driver to help development of car and team
I know ricciardos stint at mclaren leaves some doubt.. but if he brings what he had from his red Bull/Renault days, I’m really curious to see if that AT is in fact a better car than what yuki and nyck have shown us to this point. I really like yuki, but also find it difficult to gauge where he’s really at as a driver. Never really showed much against Pierre and now has the measure of somewhat of an unknown quantity. I’m excited for Hungary
Tommo and Squarespace. Name a more iconic duo. I'll wait...
Liam Lawson in the thumbnail looks like a young early 90s football player
I agree on Redbull's decision to get Daniel a seat in Aplhatauri and evaluate him with Yuki but they should have waited till end of the season to see how Nyck vs Yuki will play out. Welp it's Helmut Marko's team so what can you do?
My 2 cents:
1. RB has already said that AT (or whatever it'll be called) will be a much closer copy of the RB car next year, to put more cars between RB and the rest.
2. Tsunoda is Honda's driver, he most likely will follow Honda to Aston Martin when the times comes
3. Daniel will partner Lawson with the plan being they'll be 3/4 in the championship if Tsunoda goes with Honda to AM
Love the gran turismo background music
I have the feeling there was more going on behind the scenes. Alpha Tauri didn't make any statements amount Nyck leaving to the press on or socials. Not even a 'thank you, and goodbye' kinda post. All their communication is about Daniel joining.
The og Gran Turismo music! More of that please
I think it makes sense to put Daniel in now, test Yuki against one of the best drivers of our time. If Yuki beats Daniel, then Checo will be dropped and Yuki moves to RB. Then dependant on F2, Iwasa moves to AT alongside Lawson with Daniel moving to Sauber to replace Valtteri
That works, I'd back this
@@TommoOnRUclips Sorry to say, but Yuki beating Daniel won't matter because as soon as he's in that RB2 seat, he's just going to be fodder for Max.
@@AlanNadeauIIIIt"s enough for RB though. Don't challenge Max, just stack up points and podiums.
@@bryangalaviz2601 And that's bullshit. Stop settling for complacency
I can see Hulk to replace Zhou and Ric to Haas.

I’m excited for the Alphatauri podcasts with Danny lol
Question : which track suits the Alpha Turi to get the most out of the track
Rainbow Road
What're your thoughts on Liberty tryna convince Redbull to do a line up like Max-Lando, Max-Charles?
Well, he gets a chance this season, after all.
Man i hope to see my countryman get a seat soon :)
Tommo post always makes my day
Cheers Thomas, great name
Liam Lawson P1 at Fuji yesterday! Let’s gooooooooooo.
Daniel is the best choice for alpha imo a driver with 11 years of experience will be able to develop a car rather than a rookie
I think they will try and get Lawson in a Williams next season. They’ve done an awesome job with Sergeant this season in my opinion, as well as Russell and Albon. If Albon moves on which I can see happening it would be a great place for Lawson
Checo (I’m a Checo fan too) has to perform prior to the break in the fastest car, if not RIC in at RB. LAW to AT. Heard it here first.
im a huge piastri fanboy aussie. still so exctied for this guy to enter f1. excitement machine.
I'd also like to see Alex Palou in F1
Same
The donut media shirt. Nice!
I think as of rn with Ricciardo's tyre test and Horner singing Danny Ric's praise about how competitive he is, that the question in the Red Bull camp is when does Danny Ric boot Checo from the works team, and Lawson comes into Alpha Tauri most likely in 2024, so that he has a fresh start and a developed car that has some influence from a race winner in the form of Ricciardo.
Imo I'd love to see a Ricciardo and Verstappen reunion and in terms of financial assets, Ricciardo will more than make up the money Red Bull will use to buy out Checo's last season with them (exit clause and Kimi Alonso Ferrari vibes is what Im feeling).
If that does happen, it poses the inevitable question for Marko of who to put alongside Yuki in AT, Lawson or Iwasa. I'd have Lawson in the seat since Super Formula is closer to F1 than anything else and give Iwasa the test/reserve driver role and give him all the FP1 outings, so he can get some time in F1 machinery.
Ricciardo's comeback part 1 complete now waiting on part 2 🤞
What happens when Riccardo out qualifies Checo next race🤔
@@johnnylones6820 that would be part 2
Honestly if Perez doesn’t buck his ideas up it will be Max and yuki at RB then Liam taking yuki seat and possibly Ricciardo. If Daniel does well maybe they give him the RBI’s seat
People keep forgetting Liam right now is busy in Super Formula he isn't gonna compromise his season
The huge question mark to me here is: how close Red Bull wants its other driver from Max? I mean, they can bring a “too close to comfort” situation as well.
Daniel to AT is a good move. That way Red Bull can evaluate both Daniel and Yuki for the RB seat, since Perez has only 1 more year on his contract (if they dont boot his ass earlier).
Once Perez serves out his contract, Daniel or Yuki can take the RB seat, Lawson becomes the new AT driver.
I honestly think if Perez doesn’t improve, he’s gone end of this season. Perez’ sponsor money or not, Red Bull can easily replace that loss of income with a new sponsor. Sponsor world is all about impressions and screen time, well that RB19 is getting a lot of screen time atm.
I’m sure Lawson ends up in AT for 2024. I think the real question at this point is if the 2nd Red Bull driver will be Tsunoda or Ricciardo.
Your thoughts tommo are mine on the subject.
Pretty much summed up what I thought. They know what Ricciardo is capable of and he has said he would only go to Alpha Tauri if there was an opportunity to get back into the main team. So that's why he's took it. He obviously impressed enough at the Silverstone tyre test. But I honestly don't think that data means a whole lot when it comes to driving the Alpha Tauri.
As for Liam Lawson, I think it would be criminal if he didn't get his shot in F1 soon. I will be interested to see who gets FP1 rookie outings later this year. It could be an indication of which driver they are looking to promote next.
Imagine watching this video but you're Liam Lawson
Easy Mate. Ricardo brings experience, and it is also a bigger fan base. Loosing the main sponsor helps to bring a new and bigger sponsor. The team increases in value and brings more money when they are ready to sell. They will sell that team in the future
I think one of the 3 RB drivers gets the boot in 2024. Would be interesting to see who shows the highest motivation & speed. Silly season has just started. 😁
I agree this was the right decision. I also believe RedBull actually played this one smart, Ricciardo going there brings a lot of fans to Alpha Tauri ahead of next years car which will be more in line with RedBulls RB19 ..then putting Lawson in that car for the
AT for the 2024 season and give him a full season behind the wheel and see how that plays out for seats in 2025… and let 2024 be either RIC or PER fight for the seat .. either RIC sets the pace for the rest of 2023 and gets seat for 2024 or RIC moves on and PER keeps seat for another year until either Lawson can step up or possibly NOR joins RB for 2025. Any of these options RB does not lose.
Why doesn't Ritomo Miyata get any international recognition with how well he is performing is Super Formula?
It makes sense choosing Dani Ric in this scenario, but I still think Lawson needs to be in that team next year, whether it's replacing Tsunoda if Ricciardo stays/swaps with Perez, or replacing Ricciardo if he replaces Perez and Perez gets dropped.
This thumbnail is a work of art. I never thought I'd ever be afraid my dreams would be haunted by giant pink Ricciardo and Marko, yet here we are.
Don't have nightmares
As a Kiwi I'm a huge Liam Lawson fan. I would've loved to see him get to F1 as soon as possible. However with the AT car in the state that it is now, I'm happy for them to develop it more with Danny and then bring Lawson in when the car is back in the midfield again
Unfortunately he may run out of time, which would be criminal.... he's got serious talent. Better than tsunoda that's for sure.
This is a huge rest of the season for Yuki sonoda. Let there be no mistake both of them are not going to move forward with this team. This could turn into a bloodbath between Yuki and Daniel and I think it should people are watching both drivers and they must know that they're building their careers on the back of the next man
Yuki is the man. Deserves to be on the grid.
We’ll see now clearer than ever
If Danny Ric got in the RB seat in place of Checo, I think it would really ruffle Verstappen's feathers if it's a 2014/16 Mercedes type situation. On the AT side, I think Lawson gets a seat for 2024 with Ayumu Iwasa taking his place in the Mugen SF seat.
I am happy for DR, I hope he does not show Yuki up to much.. I would like him the both to to well together!
Super formula is probably closer to F1 than F2 is and Lawson is doing pretty well there. Interrupting his development too soon might not be a good idea! Lawson will probably get the Alpha Tauri seat next season because I don't think Ricciardo will be on the grid next season, I hope I'm wrong
Exactly, let him wrap the season. Fresh start in 24
really good take
Something I think a lot of people are missing is that by putting Ricciardo in the AT we'll hopefully see the true pace of that AT car. If he's putting the car consistently in 10th or better it shows just how much has been lost trying to develop Tsunoda in terms of points and cash prizes
Fact is that everyone also thinks that Max will see out his contract. At the end of 2025 he might just call it quits. That might be the reason why RB are also shopping for Lando and Charles. When that is the case then there will be place for Iwasa, Lawson and Yuki in RB and AT
I see you rocking that @Donut shirt Tommo.
Is that the donut media shirt !?
Lmao aged like milk
Lawson finished 9th in his first season of F2 with 102 points, while his team mate finished 6th with 120 points
Lawson finished 3rd in his second season 1 point of ahead of his team mate Logan sargeant who finished 4th.
Daniel Ricciardo!!!!
Of course any alternative isn't good enough!!!
If Danny didn't like the Mclaren brakes he is going to absolutely detest the Alphatauri brakes
Team Yuki making moves!!
Rockin the Boost Creep shirt
I really hope Liam is the top priority for next *new* driver in the RB F1 group. He's been doing nothing but win basically his whole career so far, in and out of formula cars.
RedBull wanted to use Nyck as a benchmark for Tsunoda. It would make 0 sense to replace Nyck with an inexperienced Liam. Only sensible decision was Ricciardo
This is all about Helmut Marko solving the big driver puzzle in his head. It is unclear where many of the F1 drivers (besides Max obviously) and Red Bull juniors stand.
This is the ideal move to understand all of it better. He can get a lot of information about the drivers currently under contract with Red Bull in F1. And it will take them to the end of the season, where he will have the full picture regarding Lawson and Iwasa.
that donut media tshirt tho
AT has to score points to justify being retained, and DR is now there to help (a) improve the car, (b) score points and (c) push / test Yuki.
Having Daniel in the seat also gives Christian Horner options to replace Pérez if he does not improve his performances.
DR needs to build up race conditioning
DR will have 2 races and then the summer break to recover from what will be sore neck muscles
I think you have a bit of a shewed perspective on who are the big four in terms of marketing prospects
I’d take Lando out and say
Lewis and Max tied, Charles and then Daniel
I think it's better that they bring daniel in to discern if yuki is ready. Better than having 2 young drivers rb is unsure about.
