After lot of hardships and developmental work, the Esplanade-Howrah Maidan section of Kolkata Metro Line 2 is due to be inaugurated on 6 March 2024 by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, along with the truncated sections of Taratala-Majerhat under Line 3 and Kavi Subhash-Hemanta Mukhopadhyay under Line 6.
Kolkata Metro is targeting June-July to start commercial operation in the entire route of East-West alignment between Salt Lake Sector V and Howrah Maidan
India's Deepest & Largest Metro Station at Howrah
The report added that the metro station building is equal to a 10- storey building as it could not have been any other way. To align with the 40-meter deep under-river tunnels, the station had to be excavated to a depth of 30.5 meters.
