    Totally agree with your summation Morten. When I bought mine I initially agonised as to whether I should have gone for the IC-705 instead, but now, some 6 weeks in I think this radio is a perfect blend of price, features, performance, size and rugged build. Loving this radio more and more each time I use it. Cheers ZL2VTH

    I would guess the AM carrier was lower than 10W, as when modulated - the peak power must be higher than 10W. Perhaps it's a 20W PA? In that case SSB should also be 20W.

    • @LB0FI
      @LB0FI  10 месяцев назад +2

      That would be my guess as well, but I actually revisited the topic and another video and it was 10W on CW as well.

    If you're measuring 10W AM carrier, then this is really a 40W radio at 100% modulation. Something's not quite right.
    Good video demo Morton. I just suspect that this rig is set internally way too high on AM. It should be 1/4 carrier of full rated output. 73

      Xiegu specs AM at 2.5W. Testing FM and/or CW would have been interesting.
      I wonder if the power meter is looking at average power, not PEP. Average power is a better predication of load on the battery. Testing with a 100% modulating tone on AM also would have been interesting.

    Wouldn’t it be better to test CW output power? Or did you test this with a 1khz sine wave on the audio input? Not sure if AM carrier with 0% modulation gives a meaningful result. So it might do in fact more than 10W.😉

      Does it do fm? That would give a true representation of carrier power output. AM is set up to the have the carrier at 25% of total peak envelope power. If it's doing a 10w AM carrier and maintains that if you modulate it, you'll be doing more than 10w.
      For example, an Icom 7300 has a 25w AM carrier. When you speak you get modulation peaks up to 100w
