  • Hey there! Get ready to join us on an epic adventure as we take you along on our day trip to Antwerp. We hopped on a Flixbus from Amsterdam, and in just two hours, we arrived in beautiful Belgium. We hit the jackpot with the weather and were able to check off almost everything on our bucket list. We walked the famous streets, explored the Rubenshuis and Plantin museum, but unfortunately missed out on visiting the Cathedral because it was closed. Nevertheless, we had an absolute blast and can't wait to share our experience with you. So relax, and enjoy the ride! Let us know what you think in the comments below.
    Cheers,

Finally a VLOG which is not about waffles, beer and chocolate. Very good report on what is REALLY interesting to see and do in Antwerpen! (And I live there already more than 20 years 🙂 )

The tale about the name actually goes a tiny bit different! (I’m born and raised in Antwerp) so there is a castle next to the schelde (the river that flows through antwerp) and the legend states that there used to live a giant there. The giant was a very angry and greedy giant and he asked very high taxes to every shipper who wanted to cross the river. Obviously the people were upset and not happy, so they kinda revolted. And Brabo (the guy of the statue, a very brave guy) stood up to the giant and cut if his hand and threw it in the river. This was the city of Antwerp was freed of the giant, and the name Antwerp comes from Hand werpen, which means hand throwing ☺️

omg this is a beautiful legend! The way I found out about it was that the night before we were at our friends place and we told them that we were going to Antwerp the day after. Then my friend asked if we knew where the name came from and she told us what she remembered from the legend (you probably know how the broken phone goes), even less stuck to my head and thought that I forgot about it. Then the next day comes, we go to Antwerp and see the statue, and the hand-throwing bit pops up in my mind suddenly, so there was no time to google the tale, but it's really nice to know now. Thanks a lot for commenting it here. much love

As someone who has lived in Antwerp their whole life, it's quite cool to see it from an outside perspective.
After a while of living there, u tend to only see the bad and u start forgetting to see the city's beauty.
Very cool video , made me just a good bit more appreciative of my own city. Keep it up !

Its fun to see and hear tourists talk about your city's culture and history. Next time when your in belgium u should also visit Gent, I'm a true "Antwerpenaar" but its hard to deny Gent being the most beautiful city in belgium. And lastly, if you drink alcohol then you should definitely go hard on our beers haha! They're truly amazing and it's something we belgians are very proud of

    • @deagogishvilieng

Regarding Gent, we were also discussing to visit at the earliest opportunity, although I don't think that anything can bit Bruges for me. When it comes to beer, personally I just don't like beer so I cannot fully appreciate it, but David tried 10 different Belgian beers (a big beer lover) I think and he was saying that it was the most amazing beer he's ever had each time :D

To avoid at all costs! It’s no longer the street with beautiful typical Belgian shops. It’s full of Maroccan shops. No Flemish shops anymore at all!
The neighbourhood is called ‘Het Kiel’ and it looks more like Marrakesh than the good old and safe place it used to be.
All the nice Antwerp shopping streets like de Offerandestraat, Carnotstraat, Turnhoutsebaan, Van Kerckhovenstraat, Handelsstraat… are gone. Only Turkish and Maroccan shops.
Antwerp is no langer the town where my mother used to take me on Wednesday or Sunday afternoons. Where we enjoined what we saw and we felt safe amongst the people. More than half the population of the city is alien. Belgians are outcast now.
