- Socrates in the City host Eric Metaxas interviews Ambassador Caroline Kennedy, exploring questions around leadership and service and along the way uncovering little known treasures such as JFK's reconciliation with the crew of the Japanese destroyer that ran down PT 109 and a shared passion for Longfellow's poem, "Paul Revere's Ride." The interview was hosted by Judson University's World Leaders Forum in Chicago, IL in October 2019.
I so appreciated having the opportunity to watch this interview. I learned much about the value of Ambassador Kennedy's journey through serving as the U.S. Ambassador to Japan. In particular, the story she told about her contact with the widow of the captain of the ship that split President Kennedy's PT boat was poignant and moving. The whole section on poetry and its role in Ambassador Kennedy's family life was inspiring. I'm grateful.
Great job Eric!
Catholic, but not Christian, one might say.As for Eric, I think he did a great job, all things considered.
Really love Caroline Kennedy Really do
Caroline keep educating(John)
I can't even finish watching this interview it is so boring. First one of Eric's interviews I have found to be so. Wow.
Because the guest refused to answer the host’s questions. Don’t know why she even accepted the invite. Came across as very ungracious.
Maybe you should watch The Idiot Trump then... that's more your speed: MORON speed...
It’s a dynasty when we own something. We’re not going own even an apartment. Just give us the jobs we deserve, if you believe that you should get what you deserve.
Love her.
Caroline lacks the charisma of her parents and her brother. I guess you can’t have all charismatic members in one family. Even with a name like theirs.
I'm her age, and I was in love with her Mom as a little boy..
Eric, Many compliments to you for navigating this interview with Caroline Kennedy. I found her very intelligent, but a bit too programmed in her answers. Very sure of herself to the point of self absorption. Didn't allow you to explore any real issues, e.g. abortion, just the boring, grandiose issues that revealed nothing about her life. Final comment, when I saw her outfit, buttoned up to her neck, I knew that she wasn't going to reveal herself to us, the peons. She is really not that interesting a person. Her only humor is sarcasm & putdowns. She is quite unapproachable & cold.
Bingo. Especially that she isn’t interesting. I thought with her education, experiences, and of course the family into which she was born this would be an interesting interview. But either she had nothing to say or she refused to say it.
love Socrates but this was difficult, hard to watch Eric fawning
WESLEY MINETT Iol I wouldn’t call it fawning. I think it’s more a case of what do light and darkness have in common? She’s a supporter of Obama. ‘Nuff said.
@@Tankaroni No, no, no! As American Christians, shouldn't we be able to have a conversation with those who don't walk in lock step with our views so we can start a narrative that is not confrontational? I don't think we should compromise the Gospel, but part of the Gospel is to share the love of Jesus Christ with our "enemies." Thank you, Eric, for modeling that!
I was confused about his introduction. Usually he jokes about not liking someone he really likes. Does he really not like her? That wasnt very nice. I liked the way she "didnt go there with him" as he tried to bait her a few times. She certainly talked like the diplomat she has to be, circling around the hot issues.
Tina Johnson As American Christians we are called to be salt and light. I believe in civil discourse but also in civil disobedience when necessary. In this case, she’s obviously a liberal and Eric is not, hence my comment regarding light and dark and the reason behind her discomfort and Eric’s attempt to bring her Christian beliefs to light. She chose to highlight her grandma’s faith instead.
A weak in the knees catholic....How about a glass for the water
Caroline I love you,pop
I can see why the Kennedy's are considered American royalty...
side note* hurray poetry
O.k....so tell me, is it that she can't tell it like it is, or won't tell it like it is???
Won’t. Because she can.
She speaks like royalty. No need to do any exposing of oneself. Just keep steady, stiff upper lip, tut tut. The lively members of the British royal family marry in...so Caroline's intelligence is hidden under layers of unthinking protocol.
Tsugumi and Abbie are removed from the operations. Jordan Peterson will choose who should be what from now. Enough madness. He has the final say on everything.
Wow. I have always been interested in Caroline because we were born in the same month in the same year. I remember watching her fathers funeral on TV. She seems really lacking in personality. I have a hard time keeping my focus when she’s talking. So monotone and boring. Her mother was lovely and so was her grandmother Rose Kennedy.
Awkward to the point of cringing. It seemed like Caroline might have heard his silly opening jokes about not liking her, and taken them seriously because she didn't realize that this is something he often does. Then she comes on stage and appears to be leery of him at first. Eric reading from his notes didn't help. In all, a disappointment.
@@marcoalessandro2034 Perhaps. I like Eric and had the privilege of meeting him 2 years ago when he spoke at an Anglican Church near me during the Christmas season.
If she didn't make herself aware of how he interviewed people before her...before taking on this platform.......
I agree. This man's "humorous" remarks about not liking Caroline were completely inappropriate. Sorry, but not everyone in the world knows who he is or is familiar with his interviewing style. He wasted her and our time. Next time, employ a skilled and non-awkward interviewer.
I agree!!! Grow some ETIQUETTE and GRACE!!!
Not in Yeshua’s favour at all.
Have some respect for peoples’ feelings!!!
Many opinions & no practical experience other than, Nepotistic recordings. Very sick. We fought a Revolutionary War.

Caroline is not an interesting woman. A little animation would have helped.... I could only watch a little of this interview.
The host makes it all about himself. I recommend the Letterman interview.
Ummm and...
Ah ummm and...
Sheesh!
And umm and ah um and who umm felt you know um and then um and Just a little eye contact might have helped
Eric claims this as his most difficult interview. She was very straight laced and seems to lack a sense of humour and the absurd. She wasn’t really qualified and seemed out of her depth and perhaps needed more than just being a woman as part of her resume. She didn’t really seem to understand he gave her the floor to expound. She has made great trade on her family’s achievements and as such seems to be more placed for her family’s legacy than her abilities. Sad reductive effect of nepotism. Perhaps a nice lady but waters down the icon status of her family as the generations continue.
It's referred to as a dry sense of humor. She is very composed. She exudes Dignity. I found her very personable. I heard her speak from her Heart. She is very down to earth.
@@Sabrina-vw5dg Yes, absolutely arid!
No disrespect to Ms Kennedy but ........geeezzz she needs to be a tad more animated....get herself out of the monotone zone. Am I wrong to think she didn't want to be there? Why won't she be honest and give her thoughts on abortion and other social issues? What's the purpose of having her there if all she's going to do is talk about fluff and the same old tired words about her parents? I was expecting to know more about HER ideas not her parents, unkie, auntie, or her granny.
This was a terrible waste of an opportunity to interview a histori cal figure in area which would discover more of the person but also reveal important aspects of the current state of American society. Just ask basic questions of general perception such as what is the person's being interviewed opinion of what is most important etc, the depth,or lack of depth, of the responses can reveals vast spiritual and social fields. As far as this interviewer, he reminds one of a cross of Lawrence Spivak and Hiraldo Rivera....
