Rotation & pen improved but would like to add a lefty reliever.
Like everyone else has said, better pitching and defense but significant loss at the plate. Goldy is a wild card and I guess getting anything out of him would be good enough. I am kinda scared of Bellinger though, he has the potential to revert back to his old form

Better for the postseason? This team won't be in the postseason. Even if they do get there... Bellinger is a .211 career hitter in October. Fried is 2-5 with a 5.10 career era in October, Williams has a 23.14 career playoff era. In what world do these guys make us better in October?

I think, on the whole, the overall team got slightly better just because they improved in other aspects of the game aside from offense, and only got slightly worse offensively. However, they still need to get someone solid to play third. I think they'll win the AL, and wind up facing the Dodgers again in the WS. I have a feeling that Goldy will improve from last season just because he's playing for a team that has a chance. Seemed like St. Louis was a bit toxic last season.
I will reply to you're comment since I can't leave a comment. The Yankees are missing a leadoff hitter. Not to mention a third baseman. The starting pitching & bullpen looks like it could be one of the best in the major leagues. If the starters stay healthy.
We just need to be patient. Our team is good enough for the American League with the trade deadline to fine tune the team. That’ll give our minor leagues an opportunity to build additional trading pieces if necessary. Trading Stroman for $ is fine but don’t include any valuable pieces to move him. His first half stats are great, so worst case scenario we keep him and he allows us to limit early innings on Gil and Schmidt. Not sure we can acquire enough of a 2nd baseman or 3rd baseman to provide greater value for the team until the trade deadline
I'd like to see them hand third base to the best internal defensive option (DJ, Cabrera, Peraza etc.), trade Stroman and then boost the pen with one of the elite relievers remaining, ideally left-handed. They can always go sniffing around at the trade deadline for 3B.
Overall I believe they’re a better team this year. Losing Soto is significant and to a certain extent Torres also (who was good at the end of the season). I’m confident (hopeful really) that Goldy will have a decent comeback year, and Bellinger will be as good as he was in 2022. Certainly I like the defense upgrade with this pair. But I do agree that they need another strong bat - maybe someone like Arenado. Pitching has improved though I want to see them add Tanner Scott.
Have you guys ever discussed Alec bohm ? Affordable 3B man who’s still young with unlimited upside. Belli judge Stanton goldy all seem like good clubhouse people to have in his ear to help him mature a little. He’s an exciting emotional player for sure. Anyone have thoughts on him?
Pitching got better, fundamentals and defense got better but without a 2B/ 3B as things currently stand offensively were worse. You were never going to replace Sotos production with this FA pool, but we patched some holes and are set up well to spend big when it’s actually worth it
Jazz will be either 2nd or 3rd preferable 2nd but I thought he was fine at 3rd. The other they will have to either get a free agent like Kim or fill internally.
The crazy thing about this offense is that if mkst things go right this will be oke of the top offenses. Between Goldy and Belinger we just need them to be about 80 percent of who theyve been. If we get Cody close to 30 dingers and over 30 from Goldy the rest of these guys at the bottom the lineup will get plenty of pitches to hit.
Ha-Seong Kim seems like an obvious answer to me. Not a world beater at the plate by any means, but having a top tier defender at multiple infield positions requires less of peraza/cabrera and lets NYY play Jazz at 2nd or 3rd. Excellent baserunner, fundamental player, and probably wouldn't be too expensive
Did you know Paul Goldschmidt once stole 32 bases 🧐? 90s era to current Yankees never had anyone that fast & athletic as Paul Goldschmidt manning 1st Base.
Why wouldn't they make sure that ALL opening day games are either in warm weather states or at stadiums that can go indoors? LAA @ CWS should be the opposite & SF @ CIN prob could be switched as well. If you broke up series like OAK @ SEA and ATL @ SD, it gives you four teams that could instead host on Opening Day. I'd also consider neutral sites for some games but with the weather as it is in March, makes more sense to move the schedule back to at least April 1st
I thought about this a while ago also. I don’t think there are enough warm weather/ domes to cover 100% of the series but you can avoid a lot of them definitely. I might be missing a few but I counted about 12 just in my mind which would cover 24 of the 30 teams and then just not starting in places like Detroit, Minn, Colorado lowers the chances of getting the really extreme weather
I still don't like the 3B situation but, overall, they are better. Pen was upgraded. Starting rotation is better. 1B upgrade. Jazz is better than Gleyber at second. Belli is a defensive upgrade over Soto and an all around upgrade over Verdugo. It's just 3B that remains the big question mark and hopefully a full spring training routine with the team can fix anything wrong with the Martian.
Pitching got better, but still need a lefty reliever. Defense is better, but still missing a good average hitter who makes contact. In playoffs, they lost Soto and Torres who were two of three batters to do well. Too many K’s still in the lineup. Need another bat definitely.
I don’t think the Yankees are done yet because they could trade stroman for 3rd baseman or a lefty reliever or both because jazz definitely is going back to 2 base
Losing Soto to the Mets is a catastrophe, for Yankees fans and Soto. If he would have signed long term with the Yankees, he would have become a probable all time 5 among Yankees! He would have his number retired, a plaque and gone into the HoF as a Yankee.
Pitching better, offense is slightly worse rn. On paper Goldy> Rizzo, Belli> Verdugo and full season of jazz. Never gonna replace Soto but could use another quality 3B or 2B
The yankees did get better overall. Devin Williams and Max Fried alone improve the team a ton. Add in Belli and Goldy and you got overall improvement. Not by much tho.
Devin Williams is a solid addition but he needs a slider or cutter. He's susceptible. Max Fried reminds a little of Tom Glavine. When healthy, he's very effective. WHIP-meister.
I’d say the third base signing decides the answer to this. If it’s bregman I’d say yes otherwise I’d say no (I was in love with the Soto squad but it’s hard to say they were better when it was literally all on 3-4 players in the lineup for the whole season)
I do agree they’re definitely more well rounded, but Soto and judge can both single handedly power a lineup and having them protect one another in a battery it becomes substantially harder to get through. The lineup even with bregman could still be pretty paltry without Judge being on. I do expect belli/bregman to be ~115 ops+, but there’s not really any other stable above average bats in the lineup. They’re certainly in a good place in terms of playoff success just because the pitching could be mowing down everything potentially, but we could not even bring in Bregman. It also seems to block the biggest upswing we might get in Martian hitting. DJ is almost certainly getting an everyday job 1B is filled and Bregman would push Jazz to the third OF slot.
If you did a little research there’s a 0% chance the Yankees sign Bregman because in doing so would cost them draft picks and international bonus pool money
I say it’s evens, Goldy will flounder Cody will be solid but will feel like an overpay, staff will lose wins with the questionable bullpen but the defense will be average at least and the base running will almost be mediocre! LCS loss in 7 to the Tigers, book it draft sponsor to the podcast!
tbh im to a point where im ok with giving dj a shot at 3rd this year we already have to eat the contract so why not hope he gets better throw him at 3rd and hope for the best
Fried is Carlos Rodon 2.0. He won't really make the rotation that much better. He isn't an ace. He's going to wish he was still pitching in those giant NL ballparks. Won't be nearly as good in the AL bam boxes.
having a net positive first baseman versus our nightmare rotation of rizzo dj and rice is wildly better. idk how anyone can be mad that first base is no longer a blackhole
@ being washed from an mvp is better than absolute negative stats and no production. His worst year is twice as useful as what the Yankees played at first all last year
I’ll always die on the sword that we should have traded Gleyber instead of Gio Urshela who was already playing 3rd base…. Funny how Gleyber’s “I’m a 2nd baseman ” tweet aged lmao… now he plays what he is told by the tigers
We got better at least on paper…where at this point in the offseason everything is on paper…we got better at first, left field. Our pitching has gotten better and definitely as well. Yes yes and yes Soto is irreplaceable but he’s gone. We do need one more hitter at least. With this anemic market and 30 year old plus players it’s hard to find one. If Donovan was available and that is if… I would go all out for him. He would be the ideal lead off hitter and can play second base. Or try to trade for lowe if the rays. That will be hard. Not easy.
It's really not an old lineup though. Stanton, Judge and Goldy are the oldest and they can still mash. Volpe, Jazz, Wells, Dominguez, and Oswaldo are all very young and Bellinger is 29. It's pretty well balanced
Overall the team is “better.” The defense is better without Soto, Judge can move back to right, a full season of Jazz will be good and Fried is an awesome addition. Offensive production will be down no doubt without Soto and Torres. Will be interesting to see how they make up for him in the aggregate through Goldschmidt, Bellinger, etc.
When you put the lineup down on paper and compare it to other top teams, it isn't an especially impressive list. Maybe againt the AL it compares well, but against the NL, it doesn't look good.
As a Cub fan Belli got too into being a 2 strike hitter and trying to go the other way. It's almost like his plate approach to start a PA was to try to just punch the ball oppo with 2 strikes instead of trying to pull the ball earlier in the count. So I hope in Yankee Stadium for your sakes Belli goes back to trying to pull the ball. He had the 2nd lowest pull % (behind his rookie year) and highest oppo % of his career last year.
Ha-Seong Kim would be a perfect add and not super expensive. They can afford to wait for him to get healthy and he would really improve the lineup when he comes back. He can play all over the infield.

I don’t think the Yankees are done yet because they could trade stroman for 3rd baseman or a lefty reliever or both because jazz definitely is going back to 2 base
Nice haircut James
Murakami will be Yankees 1B next year
i missed yall
Losing Soto to the Mets is a catastrophe, for Yankees fans and Soto. If he would have signed long term with the Yankees, he would have become a probable all time 5 among Yankees! He would have his number retired, a plaque and gone into the HoF as a Yankee.
If they kept Soto, what new players would they have missed out on? Would Soto have to be our only signing?
No! They’re going to miss Soto Big Time!!
Bro anyone would miss soto, it's a team game at the end of the day.
Pitching better, offense is slightly worse rn. On paper Goldy> Rizzo, Belli> Verdugo and full season of jazz. Never gonna replace Soto but could use another quality 3B or 2B
This is wishful thinking but if somehow DJ finds it and starts hitting and play really well the 3rd base that would be huge.
Dam, I want Jake's shirt.
Just wondering is Grisham still on the roster?
They did because of pitching and defense is a whole lot better. Still need a 3rd basemen
I still think they will get another infielder at somepoint. Maybe after the start of the season.
Pitching and defense upgraded. Offense not the case
Hopefully the yanks pick up my guy James Karinchak
The yankees did get better overall. Devin Williams and Max Fried alone improve the team a ton. Add in Belli and Goldy and you got overall improvement. Not by much tho.
We just need one more legit bat and another contact hitter and we’re gravy.
Devin Williams is a solid addition but he needs a slider or cutter. He's susceptible. Max Fried reminds a little of Tom Glavine. When healthy, he's very effective. WHIP-meister.
Uh nah, I’d say they’re about the same.. not overly dominate, but not terrible.
I’d say the third base signing decides the answer to this. If it’s bregman I’d say yes otherwise I’d say no
(I was in love with the Soto squad but it’s hard to say they were better when it was literally all on 3-4 players in the lineup for the whole season)
going to the wolrd series is the bottom lime from that team. hard to say it is better now until the end of the season.
Boom is the best 3b the yankees could trade for. But the Phillies would take a lot
Y’all talking about stro made me realize that no wonder he was getting pissed off at the def when we was pitching look at him now
I say it’s evens, Goldy will flounder Cody will be solid but will feel like an overpay, staff will lose wins with the questionable bullpen but the defense will be average at least and the base running will almost be mediocre! LCS loss in 7 to the Tigers, book it draft sponsor to the podcast!
tbh im to a point where im ok with giving dj a shot at 3rd this year we already have to eat the contract so why not hope he gets better throw him at 3rd and hope for the best
pitching got better, lineup got significantly worse, we’ll see
Significantly worse lol common
Worse? Lol… they got almost 0 production out of 1b, 3rd, and lf. I agree they need one more bat
@jaredmccaig5763 Soto is over hyped. He is no king 👑 Griffey Jr in his prime
Significantly is just flat out wrong.. I’m so tired of everyone acting like Soto is god
Goldy is washed.
@ being washed from an mvp is better than absolute negative stats and no production. His worst year is twice as useful as what the Yankees played at first all last year
Yeah except he's 34 and predictably heading downhill fast.. don't be surprised if you get a mirror image of Rizzo production out of him this year...
Correa for 3B, Stroman, Lemahieu, Spencer Jones and Warren to Min
Why is BBD deepening his voice lol
I’ll always die on the sword that we should have traded Gleyber instead of Gio Urshela who was already playing 3rd base…. Funny how Gleyber’s “I’m a 2nd baseman ” tweet aged lmao… now he plays what he is told by the tigers
The Yankees need Jake to eat his ranch, uninterrupted, consistently on a regular basis this season.
yikes on those volpe projections lol
Volpe improved on the previous year.
If he improves a bit more hell be above average
He didn’t improve at all
@Ohwowbuddy718 hit 209 in 2023.
@@tubes-lut look at the rest of his stats bozo
@Ohwowbuddy718 why do you feel the need to attack me with names? If you can't make arguments without attacking me personally then you can FO
Sorry you’re right, I apologize. My bad
A perfect player to get would be Xavier Edwards from the Marlins but unfortunately Cashman has no foresight
The pitching is much better. The hitting is not moving the needle for me.
Not easy.
The thing that should scare any Yankee fan is the potential for mass injuries with this older lineup
It's really not an old lineup though. Stanton, Judge and Goldy are the oldest and they can still mash. Volpe, Jazz, Wells, Dominguez, and Oswaldo are all very young and Bellinger is 29. It's pretty well balanced
They need another significant bat to maybe be even, without Soto. Don't see that happening tho. Brandon Lowe would do. Eugenio Suarez? Alec Boom??
He will have one look at that outfield fence and start pulling more for sure. It's a tempting target
What about Arreaz?🤷♂️
No way they beat the NL without Bregman and a lefty reliever
