One major level of complexity, versatility, and team play that you didnt mention was the bug repellant application of platforms.
The ability to define a defensive point is invaluablefor engineers. Its fantastic to be able to scatter platforms on the ceiling to keep the bugs grounded or put a loose area of them in a corner to force them to come around the side instead of decending down a verticle wall.

  • @danielplocica8766

I want to point out one thing, even though scout is simple in theory, and requiring little gamesense, he does demand more mechanical skill than engineer. With having to have precise aim with most of his weapons to be effective, Let's say not everyone is a good shot, able to consistently land weakpoints with the M1000 during the chaotic event of a swarm where you're not sure what to focus and can't settle in a sniping position since bugs don't always face you with their weakpoint. Meanwhile engineer can easily ignore mechanical skill. With a lot of AoE, turrets aiming for themselves, and the smart rifle, which doesn't need any aim aside from a little bit of curving

    • @GordonGordon
      @GordonGordon 3 месяца назад +1

Totally agree. But an engineer who hasn't leaned that ability to plan or prepare an area will struggle tons. I'm not a good shot with precision weapons. I love setting up kill zones to dominate the swarm and protect the team.

    • @danielplocica8766
      @danielplocica8766 3 месяца назад +3

@@GordonGordon Yes, engineer does need a bunch more gamesense to play effectively, though I wouldn't say it's that hard, the demand to be decent isn't so big, like idk... the tf2 engineer.
Here, you just set up sentries before swarms, or when you see a clean defendable area with bugs far away.
Bug repellant is strong and not many can make real use out of it, but it also isn't mandatory, you can just use platforms to give you more ground/seal holes or stop bugs coming straight from the ceiling behind. And unless you have proximty mines, plastcrete catalyst etc. there isn't overwhelmingly much to it.

    Rock & Stone!

@@Duskcosmog I don't know what else to say except no it doesn't. If you build exe for pure damage it turns the lok into one of the best single target weapons in the game (Assuming you can hit weak points that is). I'd say Engineer can also shine in Egg Hunts, as after you dig out an egg there's always going to be a swarm that spawns in, where engineer's defensive skills help a lot as you're mainly gonna stay in an large area where most of the eggs are.

Of the games three lobby modes, solo, friends, randos, I play most often with random team mates.
One way that I look at these class comparisons is which would you rather have be a grey beard player and which one more green?
A rookie scout can make missions take longer (due to mineral collection and having to cover him) but you never feel in jeopardy of losing. While a seasoned veteran scout efficiently prioritizes minerals and bugs, sometimes in rapid succession.
A lackluster engineer puts a LOT of pressure on the rest of the team. And yes this is often just a case of poor sentry management. But a good engi can make a mission a breeze. Perfectly placed platforms to route enemies, sentries to dwindle numbers, and a kit that can be customized to play second fiddle in any scenario they are needed in.
Good video analysis Jay! Rock and Stone!

Giving combat power to scout is just hilarious in my opinion, even if we are talking about single target damage numbers. Hyperpropellant and executioner are both great examples. And combining these two with shredders and turrets attacking same target as you at the same time... well... Scout just can't deal THAT much damage.
And obviously, "combat power" can and should mean AOW damage and ability to erase huge crowds as well. And in that regard Engi is easily the best in the game with his secondaries being able to delete 20 bugs a second.
Yet still Im not trying to shit on Scout, but just being honest with myself, as Scout as my main. There is just no situation where Scout can outperform Engi in combat power.

Engis is the class I play most, but have played the rest about equally now, the scout is 100% deserving to win this. the grappling hook has a massive skill ceiling allowing you to out manoeuvre and out play an entire swarm alone. The resource gathering and flairs are invaluable to a team while engis role can be covered by gunner and driller, and a good scout using power attacks. Scout is the only class I miss when not on the team.
However no chance scout should’ve won on the combat power. That’s like engis role, strong primary that bolster turrets or cover weaknesses. The turrets!! Like the scout gets flares and the engi gets turrets, combat is his job?!? The secondary’s are cracked, even without OCs shard and breach melt big targets ignoring weakpoints, and the shard has the benefit of range vs the breach cutter also killing everything around it. In fact considered one of the best OCs for breach cutter is to just give it more ammo cuz base is so good.
Anyways enjoyed the video:) Scout is def the winner. Would like to see engi vs driller next. Both great at swarm clear, a movement tool that removes vs a one that places, both support tools that can be used in combat, think it’d make for an interesting comparison :D

Bro theres no way you put scouts combat above engies… his utility tool is turrets while the scout has flares… he consistently get the most kills of any dwarf, and isnt just “decent at everything” like you seem to believe. Dps? Overcharger, turrets and many more weapons like the breach cutter shred bugs faster than scout by quite a decent margin. Swarm control? Turrets, loki, deepcore, breach cutter and his shredders. Area control? Bug repellent plats, turrets, and stubby overclocks are second only to the driller primaries. High priority targets? Lok1, and hyperprop takes them out even easier than scouts weapons. The only thing the scout can do better than the engi is high priority targets, and that’s because its the only thing that the scout can really do in terms of combat when theres a massive swarm, and engi is much more effective build as a generalist. A good team will leave the higher priority enemies to scout because they are more effective taking out the mass swarms and tanks, and not necessarily because they wouldn’t be able target those bugs at all. Scouts utility is great, and is very valuable to have on a team. An experienced scout can mine without engi while driller and especially gunner can sort of take engis roles as the main bug killers. I don’t necessarily think that scout winning is wrong but… i think its just straight up a lie to say scout is better at killing bugs than the killing machine that is the engineer. My opinion, still nice vid.

totally agree w/ above. I think High priority target point definitely goes to the scout in vanilla, w/ OCs the Engi can definitely start catching up. Explosive chemical rounds built for focused attacks (macro lens) can take down high priority critters at distance with minimal aim. HyperProp can chunk down heavy bugs. with the fire mod on HyperProp, they can even one-tap sentries on high difficulties. The Engi is fearsome.

The first point and complexity, that were awarded to scout, feel like gimmie points and essentially were the same thing. The complexity point was given to scout for, ironically, being the least complex, which also is essentially a restatement of the first point, being easier to learn. Following this, scout for damage, is blatantly wrong. If I’m not mistaken, Engi has the highest damage output of all classes, or at the very least far above scouts. Although the debate could really go either way, I feel like scout has many other strong points that were neglected and similarly, engi wasn’t represented to his full potential.
