Watching these Storch vids brings back memories. I used to produce beats for people, but I hated the culture surrounding the work so much, I got out after a few years. It was such a drag. It was oddly the same situation every time I worked with somebody new. I love rap music so much, but when you’re making beats for people, you gotta deal with a bunch of talentless people hanging around the studio all the time. Weed dealers, yes men, friends, girls, guns, people talking, etc. Just people that slow the whole process down and get in the way of creativity. They think it’s a party and they don’t realize they’re just in the way. I would sometimes hi-Jack artists and bring them back to my house, just so we could get work done. Strippers and drug dealers would still find their way over to my house, and derail the whole session. Most rappers think they’re all about to blow up too, before they even finish their album. It’s almost comedic. Rap music as an art fork is great, but the culture surrounding a lot of the music is fucking rubbish. It’s a gift if you can find an artist who is truly ready to take it to the next level and actually work.
